Value of the expression of serum SOX6 and VCAN in the diagnosis and condition evaluation of gastric cancer

- Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of serum sex determining region Y-box 6(SOX6)and versican(VCAN)in patients with gastric cancer,and to analyze their value in the diagnosis and condition evaluation of patients with gastric cancer.Methods A total of 105 patients with gastric cancer admitted to our hospital from January 2019 to October 2021 were selected as the gastric cancer group,and they were divided into stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ group(37 cases)and stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ group(68 cases)according to pathological stages;85 patients with benign gastric lesions admitted to our hospital were selected as the benign group,and 85 healthy people were selected as the control group.The expression levels of serum SOX6 and VCAN mRNA were detected by qRT-PCR,the correlation between SOX6 and VCAN expression and pathological stage was analyzed by Spearman method.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic value of serum SOX6 and VCAN expression for gastric cancer.Results The expression level of serum SOX6 in gastric cancer group was lower than those in the control group and the benign group,and the expression level of VCAN was higher than those in the control group and the benign group,with statistical significance(P<0.05).The expression level of serum VCAN of patients with gastric cancer in stage Ⅲand Ⅳ group was higher than that in stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ group,and the expression level of SOX6 was lower than that in stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ group,with statistical significance(P<0.05).The results of correlation analysis showed that the expression of serum SOX6 in patients with gastric cancer was negatively correlated with pathological stage(r=-0.485,P<0.05),and the expression of VCAN was positively correlated with the pathological stage(r=0.518,P<0.05).The results of ROC curve showed that the area under the curve(AUC)of SOX6 and VCAN in predicting patients with gastric cancer were 0.921(95%CI:0.873 to 0.955)and 0.915(95%CI:0.865 to 0.950),respectively,the sensitivity were 92.38%and 79.05%,respectively,the specificity were 83.53%and 95.29%,respectively;the AUC of the combined diagnosis of SOX6 and VCAN for patients with gastric cancer was 0.969(95%CI:0.934 to 0.989),the sensitivity was 94.29%,and the specificity was 90.59%.Conclusion The expression level of serum SOX6 in patients with gastric cancer is decreased,and the expression level of VCAN is increased.The combined detection of SOX6 and VCAN can be used as serum markers for the diagnosis of gastric cancer,and can indirectly predict the condition severity of gastric cancer.
