Forty-three patients with papulo-pustular rosacea with Demodex(D.) folliculorum were treated for 8 weeks on a random basis either with tetracycline 250 mg three times daily or with metronidazole 250 mg three times daily. Both drugs produced an improvement which was greater after 8 weeks than after 4 weeks, but there was no significant difference between them. The number of D. follilculorum after treatment with tetracycline was slightly decreased, but the number of D. folliculorum after treatment with metronidazole was more decreased than the tetracycline group. Metronidazole appears to be a effective drug for the treatment of rosacea with D. folliculorum.

The present study was performed to evaluate the effect of tetracycline - HCl on the change of implant surface microstructure according to application time. Implants with pure titanium machined surface, SLA surface and TiO2blasted surface were used. Implant surface was rubbed with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution for 1/2 min., 1 min., 1 1/2 min., 2 min., and 3min. respectively in the test group and with no conditioning in the control group. Then, the specimens were processed for scanning electron microscopic observation. The following results were obtained. 1. In the pure titanium machined surfaces, the control specimen showed a more or less rough machined surface composed of alternating positive and negative lines corresponding to grooves and ridges. After treatment, machining line was more pronounced for the control specimens. but in general, test specimens were similar to control. 2. In the SLA surfaces, the control specimen showed that the macro roughness was achieved by large-grit sandblasting. subsequently, the acid-etching process created the micro roughness, which thus was superimposed on the macro roughness. 3. In the SLA surfaces, irrespective of the application time of 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution , in general, test specimens were similar to control. 4. In the TiO2blasted surfaces the control specimen showed the rough surface with small pits. The irregularity of the TiO2blasted surfaces with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution was lessened and the flattened areas were wider relative to the application time of tetracycline - HCl solution. In conclusion, pure titanium machined surfaces and SLA surfaces weren't changed irrespective of the application time of tetracycline - HCl solution. And the TiO2blasted surfaces conditioned with tetracycline - HCl solution began to be changed from 1 1/2 min. This results are expected to be applied to the regenerative procedures for peri-implantitis treatment.

Then, the specimens were processed for scanning electron microscopic observation. The following results were obtained. 1. Pure titanium machined surfaces conditioned with saline for 1 min., showed a few shallow grooves and ridges and were less irregular. 2. Pure titanium machined surfaces conditioned with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution showed more irregular and corrosive surfaces compared to the control group irrespective of the application time of tetracycline - HCl solution. 3. Titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces conditioned with saline for 1 min., were deposited with round or amorphous particles and showed round or irregular pores that can be connected to each other. 4. The irregularity of titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces conditioned with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution was lessened and the flattened areas were wider relative to the application time of tetracycline - HCl solution. 5. Titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces conditioned with tetracycline - HCl solution for 1 min. and 1 1/2 min. were very similar to that of the control group, but the surfaces conditioned for 2 min., 2 1/2 min. and 3 min. were changed. In conclusion, pure titanium machined surfaces were changed irrespective of the application time of tetracycline - HCl solution. And titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces conditioned with tetracycline - HCl solution began to be changed from 11/2 min. This results will be applicable to the regenerative procedures for peri-implantitis treatment.

From January to June 2000, 30 patients with discolored teeth were applied bleaching their teeth at home with Nuprogold 10-15%. The most common cause of discolored teeth was using tetracyclin, followed by flour and other factors. Results after bleaching mainly depend on the causes and level of staining. Home bleaching teeth treatment with Nuprogold (10-15%) is the best method for yellow and light brown teeth. External effects (sensitive, dull ache) mostly exist in all patients and decrease gradually after stop bleaching

A study is made on the use of tetracycline-novobiocin combination (Albamycin-T) on 52 children suffering from acute amoebic dysentery. All patients received the medication at a dose of 30 mgs. per kilogram body weight per day of each of the tetracycline and novobiocin components of the drug. The dose was divided and given three times a day for ten daysEvaluation of the results of the study was based on the criteria for success of treatment suggested by the Council on Pharmacy and Chemistry; 1. improvement of the patient subjectively. 2. elimination of cysts and/or trophozoites from the stools. 3. healing of ulcers in the colonAll of the 52 patients had dramatic clinical improvement between the first and fifth day of treatment, about 90% of whom showed such therapeutic response during the first three days. All the 21 patients who were treated for ten days became asymptomatic during the course of therapy as did 22 (95.7%) of the 23 patients who were treated for a period of from 5 to 8 days; and 4 (50%) of the eight patients who received the medication for a period of only 2 to 4 daysOnly the 21 patients who were treated for 10 days had adequate number of repeat stool examinations necessary for analysis. All patients became negative for E. histolytica during the period of therapy. In two patients who had sigmoidoscopic examinations before and after treatment, the amoebic ulcers completely disappeared during the repeat examinationTwo patients (3.8%) had side effects of the drug in the form of generalized urticarial rashes. No cases of jaundice or moniliasis were clinically apparent among the 52 patientsThe combination of tetracycline-novobiocin (Albamycin-T), indeed, is an effective armamentarium in the treatment of acute amoebic dysentery in children. The recommended dose is 30 mgs. of tetracycline and novobiocin each per kilogram body weight per day for a period of five to ten days. (Summary and Conclusion)
