5.The diagnostic problem of gastric cancer.
Journal of the Philippine Medical Association 0000;():0-
The problem of early diagnosis of gastric cancer appears to be two fold. The paucity of clinical manifestations and the medical ignorance of our people has been so far the major reasons in the inadvertent delay of the diagnosis. The other minor reason is the inherent limitation of the known methods of diagnosis. Obviously, some stomach carcinomas are not detectable by the present methods of diagnosis and greater efforts should be exerted to extend the frontiers of our diagnostic know-how. Maybe the unexplored investigative field of nuclear medicine may reap for us a richer harvest. (Conclusion)

6.An usual role of roentgenology in the diagnosis of malignant lesion of the stomach (report of a case).
Journal of the Philippine Medical Association 0000;():0-
1. This was a case of gastric malignancy in a 59-year-old male in which the X-ray findings of the stomach happened to be more true than the palpating findings of the surgeon and his appreciation of the external appearance of the organ after an exploratory laparatomy, as was subseqeuntly proven in the second operation2. Emphasis was laid on the scientific observation mentioned in the book of clinical roentgenology of the alimentary tract by Buchstein, which was quoted verbatim in the discussion. (Summary)

Endoscopic ultrasonography(EUS) has been used in assessing the depth of cancer invasion of the stomach. However, there are pathologic findings coexisting cancers which are unable to be detected by EUS resulting in mis-staging preoperatively. To find out the causes of mis-staging in determining the depth of cancer invasion, we analysed the pathologic findings of mis-staged cases of gastric cancer by EUS. (continue...)
