Acta Medica Philippina 0000;XI(3):773-782
Three cases of refractory thrombocytopenic purpura are presented. This kind of purpura is accompanied by symptoms of acquired hemolytic anemia. The possible relations of this syndrome to the so-called thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura or thrombohemolytic thrombocytopenic purpura are discussed. Likewise, the possible relations of this kind of purpura to hyperglobulinemic purpura, a probable dysproteinosis, was considered. While the majority of thrombocytopenic purpuras are due to the presence of thromboagglutinins and thrombolysins, and some cases to hypersplenism, the etiology of this kind of purpura seems to be of a quite different nature. All the three cases were observed in children.
