We developed a primary eye care training programme for community-based leprosy control workers. The 20-hour training emphasized the detection and management of lagophthalmos(and its complications) and chronic iridocyclitis. Following training leprosy patients in four resettlement villages were examined independently by the health workers and ophthalmologist. The findings reveal good agreement between most signs(lagophthalmos, acute iridocyclitis, and chronic iridocyclitis). Based on these result, we recommend excluding the detection of abnormal blink pattern from future training programmes and including the detection of posterior synechia.

A case of heterochromic cyclitis is reported in a 32 year old man. The patient had adepigmentation of iris (Heterochromia), few fine posteiror corneal deposits and a complicated cataract of the right eye. There was no rise in intraocular tension. Literature for pathogenesis was briefly reviewed.

A case, 25-year-old male student who is thought to have been suffered from glaucomatocyclitic crises in the left eye, is presented. Authors have followed this patient for about one and a half years. During the time, 10 times of recurrent unilateral attacks of ocular hypertension have been noted with assoicated mild iridocyclitis. An attempt was made to evaluate the clinical pictures and review the literatures.

Pseudohypopyon of tumor cells can be found in patient with intraocular tumor. This condition resembles true hypopyon of iridocyclitis. Paracentesis of the anterior chamber may be undertaken to find malignant cells. A 68 year old Korean man with bronchogenic carcinoma was found to have a tumor mass in the root of iris, pseudohypopyon and secondary glaucoma as. Anterior chamber tapping was failed to show tumor cells. Any inflammatory cell was not found in the anterior chamber tapping.

The effects of Cryosurgery of the ciliary body on the aqueous humor dynamics of ten albino rabbits were studied by perfusion experiments. The cryo-probe (tip diameter, 3 mm) was frozen by dry ice and alcohol mixture and applied over the full circumference of the eye 2 mm from the limbus for 30 seconds. Eight applications were made in each eye. Intraocular pressure fell during the first 10 days after surgery, the amount of fall averaged 2.5 mmHg (12.6% of the pre-treatment level). Thereafter the intraocular pressure rose gradually in all eyes and reached almost to the original level 3 weeks after surgery. Facility of outflow changed inconsistently, showing no definite pattern. Aqueous flow showed significant reductions during the 2 to 3 weeks after treatment, then gradually recovered. There was no significant reduction in flow after the end of 3 weeks. No complications were encountered except mild iridocyclitis during the first week. The unsatisfactory outcome of this cryotherapy is considered to be due to the insufficient freezing of the ciliary body, and more applications is recommended in order to produce more sustained reduction of intraocular pressure.

A case of iridocyclitis due to cysticercus cyst in the anterior chamber and exophthalmos due to in the orbit. A case of iridocycleitis due to cysticercus cyst in the anterior chamber of the left eye, bilateral exophthalmos due to in the orbit and generalized multiple cysticercus cyst in the subcutaneous tissue, brain and the internal organs is reported in a twenty one year old Korean male. To watch characteristic heaving and undulatory movements of the live cysticercus cyst in the anterior chamber of the eye is fascinating. Iridocyclitis was improved fairly after subconjunctival injection of hydrocortisone acetate 5mg and with general treatment for iridocyclitis. Regarding to literature, ocular cysticercosis is known as a very rare case in Korea. A brief review of the related literatures is presented.

PURPOSE: To investigate the clinical manifestations, management, and ophthalmologic complications of orbital roof fractures and zygoma fractures. METHODS: A retrospective survey of 119 patients who visited Korea University Medical Center from June 2009 to June 2010 was performed. The sex, age, causes, fracture characteristics, neurologic injury, ocular injury, and combined facial bone fractures of patients who were diagnosed with orbital roof fracture and zygoma fracture were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: The mean age of patients with orbital roof fracture was 33.0 years old. The most common cause of orbital roof fracture was traffic accident (36.1%) with 6 patients receiveing surgical treatement (9.8%). Among the ophthalmologic diagnoses of the patients with orbital roof fracture, traumatic iridocyclitis was the most common (7 eyes) followed by eyeball rupture (2 eyes). The mean age of patients with zygoma fracture was 36.6 years old. The most common cause of zygoma fracture was traffic accident (32.8%), with 51 patients receiving surgical treatement (87.9%). Among the ophthalmologic diagnoses of the patients with zygoma fracture, traumatic iridocyclitis was the most common (6 eyes), followed by commotio retina (4 eyes). CONCLUSIONS: The present study regarding clinical characteristics and treatment of orbital roof fracture and zygoma fracture is helpful for ophthalmologists regarding the treatment of accompanying ophthalmologic complications.

The complications of herpes zoster ophthalmicus vary greatly among different patients. The major portion of the complications fall under four types; (1) keratitis, (2) iridocyclitis, (3) muscular palsies, and (4) optic neuritis. We have experienced a case of herpes zoster ophthalmicus complicated by abducens palsy, sectorial paralysis of iris sphincter, iritis, and transient increase of intraocular pressure. The case was reviewed and the pathogenesis of the complications were discus sed.

Sweet's syndrome, or acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis, is an unusual disease characterized by fever, leukocytosis, and distinctive skin lesions. Common complications include arthralgia, arthritis, conjunctivitis, and iridocyclitis. However, the involvement of the central nervous system in this disease, termed `neuro-Sweet syndrome' is rarely reported. We present a patient with recurrent encephalitis for 15 years, accompanied with neutrophilic dermatosis, and characterized by HLA-B54 and Cw1, with good responsiveness to corticosteroid.

Clinical studies on thirteen patients with Behcet's syndrome who had visited during the period from Jan. 1970 to Sep. 1973, to the Department of Dermatology & Ophthahnology, Busan National University Hospital, were made and the following results obtained. 1) The ratio of male vs. female was l. 0: l. 6 with no definite sexual differences. The ages ranged from 17 to 56 years with the peak incidence in third decade of life. 2) The "complete" form consisting of oculo- oro-genital and cutaneous lesions appeared in . 4 patients (30. 8%) and the "incomplet" in 9 patients (69. 2%). 3) Aphthous stomatitis was most predominant, being observed in 12 out of all 13 cases (92.3%), the next was cutaneous manifestations such as erythema nodosum, pyodermas, acneiform & pustular lesions and erythema multiforme in 10 cases (76. 1%) and genital ulcers in 9 cascs (69.2%). Ocular lesions and articular involvements came fourth, each being found in 8 cases (61. 5%). 4) The commonest feature of ocular involvement was relapsing iridocyclitis, being observed in 57. 7% and the disease led to a bilateral loss of vision in 38. 4% 5) Single or combined therapy including corticosteroids and antimicrobials gave transient conservative effects and was of no value to prevent recurrent attacks.
