Integrated genomics refers to the use of large-scale, systematically collected data from various sources to address biological and biomedical problems. A critical ingredient to a successful research program in integrated genomics is the establishment of an effective computational infrastructure. In this review, we suggest that the computational infrastructure challenges include developing tools for heterogeneous data organization and access, innovating techniques for combining the results of different analyses, and establishing a theoretical framework for integrating biological and quantitative models. For each of the three areas - data integration, analyses integration, and model integration - we review some of the current progress and suggest new topics of research. We argue that the primary computational challenges lie in developing sound theoretical foundations for understanding the genome rather than simply the development of algorithms and programs.

In recent years, projects funded by the Division V III of Health Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) increased steadily, which enhanced the process of modernization of Chinese medicine (CM). We analyzed CM projects funded by NSFC during 2003 -2012, which aimed to provide reference to experts in the CM field.

Recent developments in virtual, augmented, and mixed reality have introduced a considerable number of new devices into the consumer market. This momentum is also affecting the medical and health care sector. Although many of the theoretical and practical foundations of virtual reality (VR) were already researched and experienced in the 1980s, the vastly improved features of displays, sensors, interactivity, and computing power currently available in devices offer a new field of applications to the medical sector and also to urology in particular. The purpose of this review article is to review the extent to which VR technology has already influenced certain aspects of medicine, the applications that are currently in use in urology, and the future development trends that could be expected.

PURPOSE: This study was done to identify the influence of nursing work environment and social support on multidimensional organizational commitment among nurses. METHODS: The survey was conducted in August 2012 with self-report questionnaire. Participants were 480 registered nurses working in one general hospital. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression using SPSS/WIN(16.0). RESULTS: The average scores were; for affective commitment 2.84, for continuance commitment 2.48, and for normative commitment 2.57. There were significant relationships between affective, continuance, normative commitment and sub-factors of nursing work environment and social support. The affective, continuance, and normative commitment were all influenced by 'staffing and resource adequacy' and 'nursing foundations for quality of care', sub-factors of nursing work environment. Distinctively, affective commitment was influenced by 'staffing and resource adequacy', nurses' age, 'nurse-doctor relations', 'supervisor's emotional support', 'nurse participation in hospital affairs', 'nursing foundations for quality of care', and 'supervisor's informational support', which explained 30.9% of variance in affective commitment(F=31.57, p<.001). CONCLUSION: The findings show that programs which promote supervisors' emotional and informational support are important to enhance nurses' affective commitment. Also, it is necessary to improve nursing work environment to improve nurses' organizational commitment.

OBJECTIVETo understand the projects completion and research progresses in pediatrics which were funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and evaluate the accomplishment objectively and justly.

METHODSThe completion status of projects in pediatrics funded by department of clinical medicine II from 2002 to 2006 was analysed retrospectively, and important research achievement and outstanding development in some projects were reported.

RESULTSDuring the period between 2002 and 2006, 420 articles were published, and the average was 8.1 papers per project, which included 56 papers that were published in journals indexed by SCI (the average was 1.1 papers per project). The completion of general project was better than that of "the Young Researchers Fund" and small grant project. Ten post-doctors, 102 doctors and 109 masters were trained. Two projects were awarded with the first grade prize and another 2 with the second grade prize at the provincial and ministerial level, 4 items applied for patent and 1 was granted. These completed projects, which were mainly related to 7 of 12 subspecialties in the field of pediatrics, such as the respiratory disease, nephrology, neurology, cardiology, endocrinology, hematology, neonatology, are the major portion of the application projects and subsidized projects funded by NSFC, and achieved great research progresses.

CONCLUSIONDuring the period between 2002 and 2006, the 52 completed projects in pediatrics showed difference in the distribution and quality of accomplishment among subspecialties and among types of supported projects; there are some gaps between pediatrics and some other clinical basic subspecialties II, this situation released the research status and problems in development of pediatrics in China. The general projects completion was good, and many projects obtained research achievements, which reflect the leading function of NSFC in pediatric research.

Through summarizing the applications and funding for research related to ethnomedicine and ethnopharmacology in the department of Health Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China( NSFC) from 1986 to 2018,and analyzing the categories,numbers,funds and research contents of all funded projects including Mongolian,Uygur,Tibetan,Zhuang,Miao,the study is aimed to provide certain reference for the declaration of ethnic medicine project. The results showed that the national medicine project application numbers and the amount of funding growth after 2011 have increased significantly,but the overall level of research remained to be further promoted,and the lack of suitable for the study of ethnic medicine features and ways,has yet to mainland medical universities and research institutions to give more attention and jointly promote the development of basic research in the field of ethnic medicine.

Here we perform a review on applications and funded projects at Division of Physiology and Integrative Biology in Department of Life Sciences sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China in the past ten years. Based on the research fields of applications and funded projects and the funding cost, we analyzed the sub-disciplines of the funded applications, key support areas, research frontiers and trends in the subjects of physiology and integrative biology, which gives us an insight into the future applications to optimize the layout of research areas in Division of Physiology and Integrative Biology.
