Objective: Awareness and substantial understanding of obesity are essential components in its prevention and treatment. This study aimed to determine the degree of obesity awareness and its relationship to various sociodemographic characteristics among Filipino adults working from home (WFH). Methodology: This is a cross-sectional survey conducted in Metro Cebu, Philippines. Included were non-healthcare WFH professionals aged 18-64. Researcher-made Obesity Awareness Questionnaire (OAC-20) was used. Results: A total of 458 employees participated in the study; mean age was 30.33 years (SD=6.96), mostly female (71.40%) and majority single (77.07%). The mean obesity awareness score was 79.18% (SD=9.02). Age (p=0.198), BMI (p=0.397), work hours/day (p=0.101), and hours of physical activity/day (p=0.458) were not associated with obesity awareness. Similarly, male vs. female (p=0.515), and single vs. married respondents (p=0.629) did not differ significantly in terms of average scores. However, higher educational attainment (p=0.044) and higher socio-economic status (p=0.002) were significantly associated with higher obesity awareness scores. Conclusion The surveyed WFH adults were aware of the majority of the important concepts on obesity. Educational attainment and socio-economic status were significant determinants of obesity awareness.

In 2003, medical examinations of all 19,884 people living in to the Cat Dai and Lach Tray communes in Hai Phong detected 198 handicapped people (1.0% of the general population). There were 45% of males and 55% of females. The handicapped rates were 0.8% in children and 1.2% in adults. The rate of handicapped people difficult in moving was highest (33.3%), then people with strange behaviors (23.2%), and people having difficulty in studying (15.7%). The rates of people had difficulty in hearing and speaking, seeing, and others were small. Up to 91% of handicapped people needed rehabilitation but 100% of the handicapped people were not provided with rehabilitation through interviews, over 50% of people in the community did not identify the handicapped, and were not ready to accept them as equal members.

Introduction : Health care providers must develop awareness and understanding of the rights of patients in order to render quality care. The study aimed to assess the awareness of students of the College of Medicine of the Patient's Bill of Rights. Methods : Medical students selected by stratified sampling were asked to answer a questionnaire on patients' rights. Respondents with scores of at least 80% were considered "aware". The proportion of respondents who were "aware" was determined. Results : The results revealed that 84.6% of the respondents have >80% awareness level. More than 90% of the medical students sampled were aware of the right to choose a physician, followed by the rights to be shown respect, dignity, and consideration, to be provided healthcare service of best quality by skilled healthcare professionals, to be included in decisions and choices about one's care, and to religious assistance. Less than 70% were aware of the right of the unconscious or legally incompetent patient and right to access and transfer of care and continuity of care. Conclusion More than 80% of medical students exposed to patients are aware of the Patient's Bill of Rights.

Introduction: Breast cancer remains to be a public health problem in the Philippines. This study determined the level of breast cancer awareness among female non-medical students from selected private colleges in Quezon City. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional survey, and data collection was done on a single occasion. The study population was chosen via convenience sampling. The survey asked about the respondents' ideas on awareness, beliefs, perceived personal risk, perceived seriousness, and knowledge of etiology, diagnosis and management of breast cancer. Results: Majority of the respondents associated lifestyle factors (smoking) with the development of breast cancer. Four-fifths regarded Western medicine as a mainstay of treatment, however, a significant proportion believed that breast cancer could be adequately managed and controlled with complementary and alternative treatments. Around 25% of respondents considered themselves at risk for breast cancer and 40% did not know. Close to 65% said that family history was a risk factor. Almost 50% never heard of self-breast examination; of those who knew about it, only 15% practiced it monthly. The respondents had varied answers when asked about the common symptoms and signs of breast cancer. At least two-thirds of respondents said that the treatment for breast cancer includes surgery and radiation therapy. Majority (79.8%) opined that having an education program would increase the level of awareness of the general public. Conclusion The students surveyed were generally aware about breast cancer, including aspects of epidemiology, diagnosis and management. The study also a revealed a number of misconceptions regarding breast cancer.

The awareness on tuberculosis was determined by an interview conducted on 559 subjects with a symptomatic of cough persisting for > 3 weeks (259 male and 300 female subjects of > 15 year old age). Results showed an insufficiency of knowledge, especially in female subjects. Mass media play an effective role in health education but only > 50% of population could access them frequently

Background. Newborn screening (NBS) is a procedure for the immediate detection of genetic, metabolic, and endocrine disorders in neonates and is crucial for prompt treatment should such disorders be identified. In the Philippines, Republic Act 9288 requires health workers to properly inform mothers regarding NBS and its importance before the procedure.

Objective. To determine the knowledge, attitude, and awareness of primiparous postpartum mothers towards NBS Methods: A survey questionnaire was administered to primiparous mothers from Wards 15 and 16 of the Philippine General Hospital from April 11 through May 14, 2017. Results of primiparous postpartum mothers with or without previous prenatal check-ups were then compared.

Results. We surveyed 160 mothers, with half (56.3%) aged between 20 and 29 years. There were 149 mothers with and 11 without prenatal checkups. Mothers with previous prenatal checkups were more likely to be aware of NBS than those without prenatal checkups. Knowledge on NBS of mothers with previous prenatal checkups was higher on average compared to those without previous prenatal checkups. There was no significant difference in attitude between mothers with or without prenatal checkups.

Conclusion. Prenatal checkups increased the awareness and knowledge of primiparous mothers' towards NBS, and thus can be a potent vehicle where healthcare providers may inform the mother on the process and purpose of this procedure.

The Selectatec mounting system was devised to provide easy and quick on-site fitting of various vaporizers for the anesthetic machine. However, a quick changing system for the vaporizer can also damage the O-ring due to friction between the vaporizer and the Selectatec back bar. We herein report a case of an unexpected anesthetic gas leakage from a damaged O-ring on the Selectatec back bar, which resulted from exchanging the vaporizers between two operations. In cases using the Datex Ohmeda machine, it is not easy to detect leakages from the vaporizers because of the location of the check valve near to the fresh gas outlet. This complicates the use of the positive pressure leakage test to detect a low pressure system leakage on the Selectatec back bar. We recommend the preanesthetic negative pressure or low-flow leakage test to detect a low pressure leakage when exchanging vaporizers on the Selectatec system.

Road Safety remainsone the most important issuesaffecting educational institutions especiallythe school. The prevalence of road accidentsin recent news reportsunderlines the importance of this issue. Such accidents involving school pupils have further escalated this concern. As such,safety awareness among school teachersis crucial in order for them to identify the suitable methods to prevent more road accidents in future. This study was conducted to analyse teachers’ awareness of road safety in school to gauge the training requirementson road safety. Road safety education and training in school is just as important as improving safety for road users outside schools. For this study, a set of survey questionnaire wasdistributedto 400 school teachers from 111 schools randomly selected from the 10 District Education Offices in Kelantan. Results were then analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). From the results, 40% of respondentswere male and 60% of them were female. Descriptive analysis showed that school teachers understood road safety as 90% of them possessed basic safety knowledge, while 10% of them lacked basicknowledge on road safety. However, they did not implement safety practice that may have contributed to unfortunate eventshappening outside of school including road accidents as reported in the news. This study suggests that school teachers must undergo road safety training to promote and improve road safety in school.With higher awareness and more information about the road safety, the teacherscould create a safer environment in their school. Undoubtedly, teachers have a vital roleto ensure safety of their pupils and their commitment will likely reduce the number of road accidents.
