Objective To study a possible correlation between the duration of reproductive period ( from puberty to menopause) and the prognosis of ischemic stroke. Methods Female in-patients with acute ischemic stroke confirmed by CT/MRI in the Neurology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from 09/03/2006 to 08/30/2008 were enrolled in this study. The probable risk factors of prognosis were analyzed and recovery was assessed by modified Rankin score (MRS) at 6 months followup. Multivariate Logistic regression was used for statistic analysis. Results 371 female patients were enrolled. The average age was (66. 2 ± 10. 0) years; average menopause age was (48. 5 ± 3.9 ) years and average duration of reproductive period was (33.3 ± 4. 3) years. There is a negative correlation between the duration and MRS (OR =0. 285, 95% CI: 0. 095-0. 850, P =0.024). There is no correlation between menopause age and prognosis of stroke. Conclusions Duration of reproductive period is a predictor for prognosis of ischemic stroke. Patients with longer reproductive period have better prognosis.

Objective To investigate the application of statins in secondary prevention of ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attacks (TIA) in different risk groups, and to identify the factors influencing the compliance of statins. Methods Data were prospectively collected on consecutively encountered ischemic stroke or TIA patients admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from April 2009 to January 2010.All clinical characteristics and possible factors influencing the compliance of statins were collected; the application of statins was investigated at 3-month follow-up.The multivariate Logistic regression analysis was used for the analysis of influence factors of the compliance of statins. Results All 369 patients were collected,52.8% of cases were prescribed statins for therapy during hospitalization. The application rate of statins in accordance with guidelines in high-risk group, extremely high-risk Ⅱ group and extremely high-risk Ⅰ group was 25.0% (16/64),44.1% (30/68) and 71.4% (135/189),respectively. Logistic regression analysis showed that the statins application during hospitalization was associated with diabetes history ( P =0.032,OR =1.789,95% CI 1.052-3.043 ) and the presence of carotid vulnerable plaques(P =0.000,OR =5.308,95% CI 3.340-8.434).The general application rate of statins was 22.3% (81/363),which was significantly lower than that during hospitalization. The application rate of statins in accordance with guidelines in high-risk group, extremely high-risk Ⅱ group and extremely high-risk Ⅰ group was 9.7% ( 6/62 ),25.8% (17/66) and 29.4% (55/187) respectively.Logistic regression analysis showed that good compliance of statins was associated with discharge instructions on statins application ( P =0.000,OR =34.852,95% CI 14.673-175.452 ). Conclusions The compliance of statins in secondary prevention of ischemic stroke and TIA is poor, and there is still a large gap between clinical practice and guidelines; Discharge instructions on statins application increase the compliance of statins.

Microbiology 1992;0(02):-
A strain of P. Aeruginosa, which was seperated from clinical environment, shows a special characteristic. It keeps normal short rod shape when cultured at 37℃, however,it forms filament without pyocyanin producing when cultured at 25℃ overnight. The filaments will divide and form short rods, simultaneously, produce pyocyanin when culture time is prolonged to over 72h or culture temperature is raised to 37℃. The preliminary study indicates that this phenomenin has nothing to do with nutritive conditions and could the inbluenced by inoculating density and irradiating with ultraviolet rays The absence of pyocyanin was not the cause of filamentous formation by the test results.

Objective:To investigate the expression of Bcl-2 and Bax in renal tissues of patients with hepatitis B virus- associated glomerulonephritis(HBV-GN).Methods:Twenty HBV-GN specimens with complete nephrology data and 10 normal renal specimens were randomly chosen for the present study.Cell apoptosis was detected by means of terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated d-UTP nick end labeling(TUNEL)and the apoptotic index was calculated;immunohistochemistry was used to detect the protein expression of Bax and Bcl-2.ResuLts:The apoptotic index in HBV-GN group was obviously higher than that of the control group;the apoptotic cells were mainly distributed in the proximal and distal renal tubules and the collecting duct epithelial cells, seldom seen in the glomerular cells. The expression of Bcl-2 in HBV-GN patients was predominately present in the renal tubular epithelia cells(positive in the plasma, membrane and nuclear);the expression of Bax was found in both glomerular cells and renal tubular cells, mainly in tubular epithelial cells, seldom seen in Bowman's capsule or glomerular mesangial region. Conclusion:Apoptosis in the kidney of HBV-GN patients mainly occurs in the renal tubular epithelial cells;expression of Bax and Bcl-2 is mainly in the renal tubular epithelial cells, suggesting that the injury of tubular interstitial damage may be one of the important factors for the development of HBV-GN.

The method of multiplex PCR was set up to identify two or three transgenes in one reaction such as uidA and bar; uidA and IDx5 or uidA, bar and 1Dx5 genes. Three sets of primer pairs which was specific to each of these three genes respectively were designed and synthesized. Recombinant plasmids pAHC25 and p1Dx5 harboring uidA + bar and 1Dx5 gene separately were used as template DNA in the process of optimizing an multiplex PCR reaction. The optimal annealing temperature for uidA and bar MPCR is range from 57. 1℃-62. 3℃ , for uidA and 1Dx5 is range from 60℃ to 60. 6℃ , and for uidA、bar and 1Dx5 range from 57. 0℃-58. 4℃. The amount of template for MPCR is twice as much as that for simplex PCR, while the concentration of primers is the same with simplex one. Less than 50bp MPCR products can be separated clearly by 10% non-denaturalized polyacrylamid gel electrophoresis. Fourteen transgenic wheat lines were tested by multiplex and simplex PCR respectively, which shows the same results and hence presents that MPCR is the reliable, rapid and high-effective approach to detect foreign genes from transgenic plant.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine therapy on the progression of acute renal failure in patients with chronic renal insufficiency. METHODS: Thirty-two patients with chronic renal insufficiency developed acute renal failure recently were treated with Chinese herbs and western drugs intravenously and clysterizing of Chinese herbs liquid for 30 minutes, and the treatment course was 14 days. Assessment of liver and renal function, blood routine, electrolytes and endogenous creatinine clearance rate (Ccr) was performed before and 2 weeks after the treatment. RESULTS: The levels of hemoglobin (HB), white blood cell count (WBC) and serum electrolytes showed no significant changes after the treatment. The levels of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (SCr) decreased, while the level of Ccr increased significantly (P<0.05) after the treatment. The total effective rate was 65.6%. CONCLUSION: The integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine therapy can effectively delay the deterioration of renal function in patients with chronic renal insufficiency accompanied by acute renal failure.

A total of 180 type 2 diabetic patients with negative anti-thyroid autoantibodies were recruited.According to the levels of serum 25-OH vitamin D [25 (OH) D],these patients were divided into four groups:sufficient group (≥ 30 ng/ml),insufficient group (20-<30 ng/ml),deficiency group (10-<20 ng/ml),and severe deficiency group(< 10 ng/ml).The results showed that compared with sufficient vitamin D group, the group with severe deficient vitamin D had higher TT3,FT3,FT3/FT4,and TSH (all P<0.05).The serum 25(OH) D level was negatively correlated with TSH values (r =-0.207,P<0.05) after adjustment for gender, age, and body mass index.Multivariate regression analysis indicated that serum 25 (OH) D level was an independent influencing factor for TSH value (β =-0.201,P<0.05),suggesting that serum 25 (OH) D level seems to be correlated with thyroid function in type 2 diabetic patients.
