1.Research advances in herpesviruses glycoprotein N gene and its encoded protein.
Chinese Journal of Virology 2014;30(2):208-212
Glycoprotein N is encoded by glycoprotein N (gN) gene of herpesviruses. The amino acid composition and expression level of this protein vary among difference species of herpesviruses. According to present studies, gN protein is expressed in cytoplasm of host cells, mainly in endoplasmic reticulum. The gN forms a complex with glycoprotein M in host cells. The complex is involved in the processes of viral replication and inter-cellular infection. Moreover, this protein plays a role in immune evasion from host immune system. The study will provide a theoretical basis for further study of herpesvirus gN gene and its encoded protein.

Abstract: Objective To investigate the prevalence and genetic characterization of Blastocystis in primary and middle school students in Baisha Li Autonomous County, Hainan Province, in order to understand the infection status of Blastocystis and its subtype distribution characteristics in this area. Methods From March to November 2021, fecal samples were collected from two primary and middle schools in Baisha Li Autonomous County. Nested PCR targeting the SSU rDNA was employed in this study, sequence analysis were performed to determine the prevalence and subtype. A neighbor-joining tree was built using Mega 7. Meanwhile, the risk factors of the Blastocystis infection among different grades and genders were evaluated. Results The infection rate of Blastocystis was 4.1% (13/314), there was no statistical difference in infection rates among genders and grades (P>0.05). Sequence analysis revealed that three Blastocystis subtypes were identified, namely ST3 (n=7), ST7 (n=4) and ST1 (n=2), all of which have zoonotic potential. Conclusions This is the first report of the identification of Blastocystis in humans in Hainan at the subtype level, and provide the basic data for the prevention and control of Blastocystis in this area. The zoonotic subtypes identified in this area indicated more studies should be taken in humans and various animals, to better evaluate the transmission of Blastocystis and provide scientific support for the prevention and control of Blastocystis.

7.Research on the gene structure of duck hepatitis B virus and its encoding proteins.
Chinese Journal of Virology 2012;28(6):681-688
Duck hepatitis B virus (DHBV) belongs to the Avihepadnavirus genus of the Hepadnaviridae, and it not only has the same replication pattern, but also has the similar genomic and antigenic structures to Hepatitis B virus (HBV). The genome of DHBV is a partially double-stranded closed circular DNA. The genome consists of three distinct open reading frames (ORFs): ORF-PreS/S, ORF-PreC/C and ORF-P, which all locate on the negative DNA strand and encode four separate proteins. The ORF-PreS/S encodes envelope proteins L and S, and the ORF-PreC/C and ORF-P encode capsid proteins C and polymerase proteins P, respectively. The characteristics of genome structure, viral proteins features and functions were described in this review in order to provide useful information for the further study of DHBV and the duck model infected by DHBV.

After reviewing the literatures in recent years, it is of importance to investigate on the key brain region activated by needling with the baseline state fMRI in research of acupoint specificity and brain fMRI. It is valuable to define two ways to determine the key brain region: one is the so called Seek True, while the other one is the so called Prove Wrong, and some examples of applications of the two methods are given in order to prove that the methods are feasible on determining the key brain region.

To study the optimum preparation process and stability of beta-cyclodextrin inclusion compound in volatile oil of Cinnamomum longepaniculatum leaves. The saturated aqueous solution method was adopted to prepare inclusion compounds for an orthogonal test. The inclusion compound productivity and the inclusion rate were taken as indexes for screening the inclusion processes. The inclusion effect was evaluated with the infrared spectrophotometry and TLC, and the stability under conditions of high temperature, high humidity and strong light was detected. Under optimum preparation conditions for inclusion, the ratio between volatile oil and beta-cyclodextrin was 1: 8 (mL: g), that between beta-cyclodextrin and water was 1: 15, the inclusion temperature was 40 degrees C, and the inclusion time was 3 h. The results of spectrophotometry and TLC showed that the optimum conditions can generate beta-cyclodextrin inclusion compound in volatile oil of C. longepaniculatum leaves with certain light resistance, thermo-stability and hygro-stability. Therefore the optimum inclusion process features simple operation and stable inclusion compounds.

Objective To understand distribution of the endemic fluorosis areas and running status of water-improving defuoridation projects in Gausu province. Methods In 2006, Gansu province endemic fluorosis areas, the content of fluoride in drinking water was measured in villages where water was not improved, running status of delluoridation projects was investigated and the content of fluoride in drinking water were determined in villages where water was improved. Dental fluorosis and skeletal fluorosis prevalence were examined in children in identified high-fluorlde villages. The fluorine content in drinking water was determined by F-ion selective electrode, dental fluorosis of children was diagnosed using Dean method, and adults skeletal fluorosis was diagnosed according to "National Standard for Clinical Diagnosis of Endemic Skeletal Fhiorosis" (GB 16396-1996). Results Water samples were examined in 1997 villages of 26 countries, among which water fluoride content was higher than 1.0 mg/L in 598 villages, accounting for 29.94%(598/1997). All 1215 water-improving and defluoridation projects had been investigated, among which 94.90%(1153/1215) of the projects were functioning well, and intermittent and abandoned projects accounted for 2.96%(36/1215) and 2.14%(26/1215). Mean fluoride of treated water of 1084 water-improving and defluoridation projects had water fluoride content ≤ 1.0 mg/L, accounted for 90.79%(1084/1194) ; mean fluoride of water from 1068 water-improving and defluoridation projects had water fuoride content ≤ 1.0 mg/L, accounting for 91.75%(1068/1164). Total 86 390 children of 8 to 12 year-old were examined, the detectable rate of dental fluorosis was 22.47%(19 414/86 390) and 142 211 adults above 16 year-old were examined, the detectable rate of skeletal fluorosis was 4.20%(5967/142 211). Conclusions Some villages yet have water fluoride content exceeding the standard. Some projects are abandoned and running badly, leading to fluoride content exceeding the standard. In a few areas, the prevalence of children dental fluorosis and adult skeletal fluorosis still exists in Gansu province, the task of prevention and control for endemic fluorosis is still arduous. We must raise the effect of prevention and treatment of this disease.
