Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of lung-clearing and spleen-strengthening tuina on exogenous cough in children. Methods: A total of 77 children with exogenous cough that met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group according to the random number table, with 39 cases in the treatment group and 38 cases in the control group. The routine lung-clearing manipulation was used in the two groups, while the spleen- strengthening manipulation was added in the treatment group. Both groups were treated once a day, 5 times as a course of treatment. After one course of treatment, the symptom score and clinical efficacy were observed. Results: There were one dropout in the treatment group and 2 dropouts in the control group. Therefore, a total of 74 cases were finally included in the analysis, with 38 cases in the treatment group and 36 cases in the control group. After treatment, there was a statistically significant difference in cough score between the two groups (P<0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in the score of poor appetite between the two groups (P<0.05). After treatment, the total effective rate was 89.5％ in the treatment group versus 75.0％ in the control group, showing a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion: The therapeutic efficacy of lung-clearing spleen-strengthening manipulation is better than that of lung-clearing tuina manipulation alone for children with exogenous cough; regulating spleen and stomach can improve the curative efficacy of exogenous cough in children.

DNA microarray has become an essential medical genetic diagnostic tool for its high-throughput, miniaturization and automation. The design and selection of oligonucleotide probes are critical for preparing gene chips with high quality. Several sets of probe design software have been developed and are available to perform this work now. Every set of the software aims to different target sequences and shows different advantages and limitations. In this article, the research and development of these sets of software are reviewed in line with three main criteria, including specificity, sensitivity and melting temperature (Tm). In addition, based on the experimental results from literatures, these sets of software are classified according to their applications. This review will be helpful for users to choose an appropriate probe-design software. It will also reduce the costs of microarrays, improve the application efficiency of microarrays, and promote both the research and development (R&D) and commercialization of high-performance probe design software.

To investigate amethod which could prolong the efficient time of morphine and decrease side effect. Met hods:100 patients were randomly divided into four groups, receiving the different dispensation of analgesia. Analgesic solutions were given into epi dural space 510 minutes before operation was finished. Analgesic efficiency, efficient time, and side effects were recorded. esult: Sol utions diluted with hypertonia glucose injection might prolong the efficient time obviously (P＜0.01). When combined with bupivacaine or scopolamine the sid e effects were decreased. Conclusion: Morphine combined wi th bupivacaine or scopolamine diluted with hypertonis glucose injection, used in epidural analgesia, can bring longer efficient time and less side effects.

For a preliminary study of the role of beta-catenin/Tcf signaling in squamous differentiation of airway (tracheobronchial) epithelial cells, a stable mutant of beta-catenin was transfected into primarily cultured porcine airway epithelial cells. Western blotting revealed that exogenous protein was observed in large quantity in cytoplasm and nucleus. When co-transfected with Tcf luciferase reporter plasmids, beta-catenin mutant increased the reporter's transcriptional activities. However, mRNA expression of a squamous differentiation marker, small proline-rich protein (SPRP), was not elevated, as shown by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. These findings suggest that beta-catenin/Tcf signaling may not be directly involved in the squamous differentiation of porcine airway epithelial cells.

BACKGROUND: Statins can block many intracellular signal transductive pathways and suppress the proliferation of various cells by affecting the synthesis of mevalonic acid and the translation following modification of some membrane-connecting proteins.OBJETCIVE: To investigate the influence of simvastatin on the proliferation of lung fibroblasts, the synthesis of collagen and the secretion of matrix metalproteinase-2 (MMP-2).DESIGN:Completely randomized controlled study.SETTING: At Organ Transplanting Research Institute of Fuwai Cardiovasular Diseases Hospital, Peking Union Medical College.MATERIALS: This study was carried out at the Laboratory of Cardiology of Beijing Union Medical College hospital, Peking Union Medical College from June 2004 to October 2004. Lung fibroblasts derived from neonatal SD rats were co-cultured in vitro with different dosage of simvastatin of 0, 1, 5, 10,50 μmol/L, and 50 μmol/L simvastatin + 200 μmol/L mevalonic acid.METHODS: Lung fibroblasts deriving from neonatal SD rat were co-cultured with different dosage of simvastatine in vitro. Methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium colorinetry was used to detect the cell proliferation, and cell immunohistochemical assay was used to determine the collagen synthesis and meanwhile,MMP-2 content in supernatant was examined with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The proliferation of fibroblasts, the synthesis of collagen and the secretion of MMP-2 due to different dosage of simvastatin intervention and simvastatin combined with mevalonic acid.presenting the expression of type Ⅰ, Ⅲ of collagen in lung fibroblasts and the level of MMP-2 in 5, 10, 50 μmol/L simvastatin group were obviously lower than those of 0 μmol/L simvastatin group (0. 520 ± 0.010, 0. 334 ± 0.011,0.260±0.012, 0.111±0.011; 0.508±0.011, 0.324±0.014, 0.232±0.015, 0. 083 ±0. 015; 0.445 ±0. 017, 0. 305 ±0. 015, 0.216 ±0. 015,0.068±0.012; 0.561±0.013, 0.361 ±0.012, 0.289±0.012, 0.140value, the mean absorbency( A value) in lung fibroblasts and the level of MMP-2 in 50 μmol/L simvastatin + 200 μmol/L mevalonic acid group were obviously higher than that of the 50 μmol/L simvastatin group(0. 567±0.015, 0.354±0.014, 0.283±0.012, 0.138±0.011, t=4.715-10.950, P ＜ 0.01).CONCLUSION: Simvastatin could suppress the fibroblast proliferation and collagen synthesis, attenuate the secretion of MMP-2 and suppress consequently the adhesion and migration of lung fibroblasts; moreover, it has the capability of anti-cell proliferation by affecting the mevalonic acid pathway.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a group of intestinal chronic non-specific inflammatory disease with unknown etiology, and includes ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn''s disease (CD).Studies have indicated that environmental factor, genetic factor, disorder of immunity are associated with the pathogenesis of IBD.More and more basic and clinical studies focus on treatment with helminths in IBD.The accumulated evidences have shown that helminths infection has beneficial effects on the alleviation of IBD and is relatively safe.This article reviewed the advances in study on helminths in the treatment of IBD.

Objective To assess the influence of PBL formation study effectiveness of TCM students.Methods The controlled studies with the teaching format of both PBL and LBL were included to assess the effectiveness of learning,by searching CBM,CNKI and VIP database.All data was analyzed on Revman 5.1.Results 9 articles were included ; All were low in the quality of their methodology,and the theoretical scores of students in PBL or LBL format shows no statistical difference [SMD=3.76,95％ CI ( -0.62,8.15 ) ].PBL format was superior to LBL on students' practical scores [SMD=7.62,95％ CI ( 3.92,11.32 ) ]; Compared to LBL format,PBL proved to have a better influence on students' self-assessment for learning ability[OR=3.69,95％ CI( 1.88,7.21 )].Conclusion PBL helps to enhance the activeness of students,to improve their practical ability,which is valuable if applied in clinical concerned courses.But the included studies were low in quality; more rigorously randomized controlled teaching trials are expected to verify the conclusion.

Objective To investigate the protective effects of astragalus preconditioning on the tolerance of ischemia time of mouse small intestine . Methods C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into 5 groups (n = 7): sham operation group (Sham group),intestinal ischemia reperfusion group (IR group) and astragalus preconditioning group (ASIR group). IR group and ASIR group include 2 sub-groups respectively, specifically, 2 h reperfusion was performed 45 min (ASIR1) and 60 min (ASIR1) after blocking superior mesenteric artery. Intestinal terminal morphology was observed by light microscope after HE coloration . Serum levels of LPS , DAO and intestinal mucosa TNF-α were measured by ELISA. Intestinal Cyto C expression were detected by immunofluorescence. Results Astragalus preconditioning reduces Chiu′s score significantly. Expression of Cyto C was significantly down-regulated in astragalus preconditioning groups, and levels of LPS, DAO and TNF-αsignificantly decreased. The damages in IR2 group is obviously severe than in IR1, but there were no significant differences between this two groups after pretreatment with astragalus. Conclusion Astragalus preconditioning has obvious protective effects to intestinal ischemia reperfusion, and enhances the tolerance to longer time of ischemia.

OBJECTIVE:To improve the quality of pharmacist consultation,provide real-time,precise and whole-process medi-cine guidance and to promote rational drug use. METHODS:The functions of electronic pharmacy consultation system(EPCS)in our hospital were introduced,and its effects were evaluated. RESULTS:The system had several modules as multiple dimensional knowledge assistant system,real-time prescription checking engine,electronic consultation record method,pharmacist workload and quality statistical analysis. EPCS provided convenient information access,prescription auditing,consultation record and statisti-cal analysis so as to improve consultation efficiency and accuracy. Compared with before using EPCS,EPCS had enhanced speed of inquiring information by 3.75 times,prescription auditing by 4 times,consultation record by 6 times and statistical analysis by 20 times;return visit rate to potients increased from 0.03% to 0.34%. The number of consulting questions increased month by month. The type of consultation question,the identity of the consultant and others could be classified statistically based on the sys-tem. CONCLUSIONS:EPCS helps pharmacist to build a more scientific and effective consultation platform,and promotes rational drug use in the hospital.

Objective To establish an accurate method for determining the content of three components in Fufang Buwu Syrup. Methods TLC scanner was selected to detect three components with silica gel G thin layer plate. The sample was separated by using cyclohexane-ethyl acetate-methylenechloride-formic acid (3∶1∶1∶0.2),λS=300 nm. Results The linearity between peak area and ferulic acid was achieved in the range of 0.36-0.84μg, psoralen was achieved in the range of 0.12-0.28 μg, emodin was achieved in the range of 0.01-0.05 μg. The average recovery was 100.7%, 100.8%, 101.0%, and RSD was 1.26%, 1.44%, 1.86%, respectively. Conclusion The method is simple and accurate, which can be used for quality control of Fufang Buwu Syrup.
