Objective To explore the effect of brain derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) on the birth weight and the brain weight of newborn rats with intrauterine growth retardation(IUGR).Methods Female and male Sprague-Dawley rats were mated together and the vaginal plug formation after mating was for pregnancy diagnosis. The day when the plug was observed was considered day 1 of gestation. Then, the pregnant rats were divided into IUGR group and sham surgery group. On day 17 of gestation, the uterine arteries of pregnant rats in IUGR group were clamped for 30 min by blood vessel forceps after abdominal cavity with clamping blood uessels was opened. The pegnant rats in sham surgery group only had abdominal cavity opened without clamping blood vessels. Then the pegnant rats in IUGR group received 9 g/L saline(IUGR group) or BDNF 1 ?g injected in the rat through caudal veins for 5 days after surgery(BDNF intervention group). After vaginal birth, the weight of newborn rats and their brain weigh were measured and analyzed. Results Compared with the sham surgery group, the birth weight and brain weight of IUGR group group rats decreased by 24.9% and 17.3%,respectively,the results were significant(Pa

Chinese journal of integrative medicine 2009;15(4):316-320
The anti-tumor effects of Chinese herbal medicines and their prescription preparations attracted more and more attention at home and abroad. Thus, it is becoming a hot research topic to exploit the anti-tumor mechanisms of Chinese medicine, and some of them have been partly clarified with the improved research ability to date. In brief, the Chinese herbal medicines possess unique advantages on the treatment of tumors through their multiple actions on multiple targets.

Objective To investigate the association between the tumour necrosis factor-α-863(TNF-α-863) polymorphism and gout in Han population from the city of Tangshan. Methods We recruited 80 gout patients and 80 healthy individuals into this study. The polymorphisms of TNF-α-863 site were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction-ligase detection reaction(PCR-LDR).The frequencies of different TNF-α-863 genotypes/alleles were analyzed in the gout group and the control subjects. Results No significant differences were observed in the genotype frequencies(x2=2.8807,P=0.0897) and allelic frequencies(x2=4.2646,P=0.1187) of TNF-α-863 site in the comparison between gout and control groups. Conclusion The result of our study suggests that the polymorphism of TNF-α-863 site may not related to gout in Han population in Tangshan.

Objective To study the expressions of foliate binding protein 1(Folbp1),Wnt and ?-catenin genes on the heart of offspring during the development of embryo, whose mother was deficient of folic acid. Methods Control group involving 18 rats and study group involving 18 rats were choosen from the total 36 adult female SD rats randomly copulate with the male normal rats after feeding different fodder for 2 weeks. The heart of the 13.5,17.5 days embryos and the newborns were obtained. The expressions of Folbp1,Wnt and ?-catenin genes mRNA at the 3 periods were evaluated by RT-PCR.Results The expressions of Folbp1,Wnt and ?-catenin genes mRNA of the study group were significantly weaker than those of the control group in heart of the 13.5,17.5 days embryos and the newborns(all P

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of surgical treatment on complex acetabular fractures.
METHODSThe data of 46 patients (38 males and 8 females, aged 16-75 years, mean equal to 38.5 years) with complex acetabular fractures, who were admitted to our hospital from January 1998 to December 2005, were analyzed retrospectively in this study. According to Letournel rules, posterior wall and posterior column fractures were found in 11 patients, transverse and posterior wall fractures in 13, T-type fracture in 4, both columns fracture in 10, and anterior column and posterior transverse fracture in 8. The choice of surgical approach was based on the individual fractures, which included ilioinguinal approach in 5 patients, Kocher-Langenbech approach in 7, combined approach in 26, and extended iliofemoral approach in 8.
RESULTSAll the patients were followed up for 3.5 years averagely. The clinical outcomes were analyzed with Harris hip score and radiography. In 36 patients (78.3%), the surgical procedure was successful (Harris hip score more than 80 points). The rate of excellent and good was about 86%.
CONCLUSIONSThe keys to increase the effectiveness of surgical treatment on acetabular fractures are correct preoperative classification of fractures and choices of appropriate surgical approach and time.

Objective To evaluate the use of gated SPECT in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) and the effects of percutaneous transluminal septal myocardial ablation (PTSMA) on myocardial perfusion. Methods 99 Tcm-methoxyisobutylisonitrile (MIBI) and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) images were performed in 31 HOCM patients before PFSMA and in 15 patients 3-7 d after PTSMA.The images in different left ventricular segments were analysed by using scores. Results In 99Tcm-MIBI images, uptake decreased at the septal regions in 12 HOCM patients (80.0%, 12/15) after PTSMA, 18F-FDG images also showed decreased uptake at the septal regions in 5 HOCM patients (33.3%, 5/15) after PTSMA.Conclusion 99Tcm-MIBI images might be an important method to evaluate PTSMA results, and 18 F-FDG images showed important value as reference.

OBJECTIVETo identify the genotype and clades of hantavirus (HV) in Zhejiang province.
METHODSThe partial S and M segment of the HV in Zhejiang province were amplified with RT-PCR using genotype-specific primers, and then were sequenced and compared with other known hantaviruses.
RESULTSThe genotype of 11 strains were HTNV and other 7 strains were SEOV by homology and phylogenesis analysis, yet the clade distribution was significantly different among foci of Zhejiang with 5 clades of HTNV and 3 clades of SEOV. There also existed special clade of HTNV named ZNB-1, ZNB-2, A3 and of SEOV named Gou3, ZJ5. The homology of M segments of ZNB-1 and ZNB-2 with other HTNV clades were 69.7%-74.0% except Nc167, A3 with other HTNV clades were 73.6%-76.3% except B78.
CONCLUSIONZhejiang province is co-circulating with HTN and SEO. Say the least of the clades are 5 of HTNV and 3 of SEOV and there also existed special clade of HTNV and SEOV.

Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology 2009;25(1):121-124
AIMTo study the relation between Respiratory Syncytial Virus infection and asthma development by measuring airway responsiveness (AR) and M2R function.
METHODSGuinea pigs (n = 34) were randomly divided into 4 groups: Hep-2/NS group (group A, n = 9), RSV/NS group (group B, n =9), Hep-2/OVA group (group C, n = 8) and RSV/OVA group(group D, n = 8). On day 21 after infection we tested AR and M2R. Then counted eosinophils in BALF and observed pathological change.
RESULTSIntraairway pressure(IP mmH20) of group B had no significant difference with group A(P > 0.01), and the extent of IP decrease also had no difference between groups A and B (P > 0. 05), but IP of C group were much higher than group A (P<0.05), with extent of IP decrease lower than group A (P < 0.05). And IP of group D were higher than group C (P < 0.01), with the extent of IP decrease much lower than group C (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONRSV infection could enhance OVA-induced M2R dysfunction, then develop AHR.
