The high molecular weight glutenin subunits (HMW-GS) are the main components of storage proteins of wheat, and play a critical role in determining the visco-elastic properties of gluten. There are both quantitative and qualitative effects of HMW-GS on the processing properties of wheat. Current knowledge of the molecular structures, compositions and properties of the gluten proteins of wheat is summarized in details, and the role of the HMW-GS in determining the quality of the grain for breadmaking and how their amount and composition can be manipulated leading to changes in dough mixing properties is also discussed systematically.

Background The visual system of animal have to optimally adjust in various environmental conditions in order to obtain stable and effective visual funetion. However, the color vision system of animals which encounter uncertainty of spectral signals should be plastic.Whether the densities of various cones and expression of opsins change with long-time spectral deprivation is unclear. Objective This study was to investigate the changes of cone density as well as the expression of corresponding opsin and mRNA following the long-term illumination of monochromatic light. Methods Thirty 3-day-old guinea pigs were randomized into 3 groups and exposed tO the 530 nm green light,400 nm purple light and white light for consecutive 8 weeks respectively. The flat-mounted retinal sample was prepared and divided into dorsal zone, ventral zone and mixed zone anatomically according to the distribution of difierent light-sensitive cone. The changes in density of cone cells sensitivited to different colored light were detected by single-1abel or double-label immunocytochemistry. The levels of opsin and its mRNA were determined using Western-blot and real-time PCR respectively. Results The density of green-sensitivity cones was significantly different in the dorsal zone of retina among green light group, purple light group and white light group (F=234.28,P<0.01).Compared with white light group, the density of green-sensitive cones in dorsal retina of green light group was obviously higher but that of purple light group wag evidently lower(q=389.68,P<0.01;q=67.11,P<0.01).No significant difference was found in the density of purple-sensitive cones in the ventral zone of retina among green light group, purple light group and white light group(F=3.14,P>0.05).The density of coexpression of the mixed cone cells was increased in green light group(q=157.55,P<0.01)but decreased in purple light roup (q=254.85,P<0.01)in comparison with white light group. The expression levels of green-opsin and green-opsin mRNA in green light group was significantly elevated(q=184.45,P<0.01;q=4.71,P<0.05),but those of purple light group were evidently declined(q=5.87,P<0.05;q=346.66,P<0.01)in comparison with white light group. There was no statistically significant differences were found in the expression of purple-opsin and its mRNA among all the groups(F=1.24,P>0.05;F=3.27,P>0.05).Conclusion After the exposure of long-time monochromatic light illumination, monochromatic cones density and its opsin in guinea pig occur the corresponding alteration to gain good spatial vision as a compensatory reaction. These outcomes imply that there is some plasticity during the development of color vision. The increase of green-sensitive cones might be from the differentiation of coexpression cones in transition region.

Abstract?AlM:To evaluate the accuracy and practicability of three - dimensionally preformed Arbeitsgemeinschaft Osteosynthese AO titanium mesh plates for orbital fractures.?METHODS:Forty-seven patients with isolated blow-out orbital fractures were included in this study. Fracture locations were as follows: floor/medial wall ( n = 26, 55%), medial wall ( n = 12, 26%), and floor ( n = 9, 19%) . The floor fractures were exposed by a standard transconjunctival approach, whereas a combined transcaruncular transconjunctival approach was used in patients with medial wall fractures with temporary dissection of inferior oblique muscle. A three -dimensionally preformed AO titanium mesh plate was selected according to the size of the defect previously measured on the preoperative computed tomographic scan examination and fixed at the inferior orbital rim with 2 screws. The accuracy of plate positioning of the reconstructed orbit was assessed on the postoperative computed tomography ( CT) scan. The practicability of clinical use of AO three - dimensionally preformed titanium mesh plates was assessed on the preoperative and postoperative clinical data.?RESULTS: Postoperative orbital CT scan showed an anatomic three- dimensional placement of the orbital mesh plates in all of the patients. All patients had a successful treatment outcome without clinical complications. 40 patients ( 87%) had a successful enophthalmos correction. 25 patients ( 86%) had a successful recovery from diplopia.?CONCLUSlON: Three- dimensionally preformed AO titanium mesh plates for orbital fracture reconstruction results in an accurate anatomic restoration of the bony orbital contour with a high rate of success to correctenophthalmos and diplopia.

Both sides of the picornavirus genome have 5'-untranslated region (5'UTR) and 3'- untranslated region (3'UTR). This study demontrated that both the 5'-and 3'-UTR can form complex structures, such as stem-loop, clover and pseudoknot structure, These structures play an important role in the regulaton of the replication and translation of the viruses. This article reviewed the progress of research on the structure and function of picornavirus' 3'-UTR over recent years.

Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2006;26(11):969-972
OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of needling at Weizhong (BL 40) acupoint in inducing metabolic changes in brain with positron emission tomography and dynamic contrast (PET/CT) imaging for exploring the mechanism of central regulation of acupuncture.
METHODSPET/CT was performed before and during needling Weizhong acupoint of right leg by electro-acupuncture in 8 healthy volunteers, and also in other 8 subjects without any acupoint stimulation for control. Difference of brain functional images between the two groups before and during needling was analyzed by pairing t-test with statistical parametric mapping.
RESULTSThe needling evoked mean activated cerebral functional regions were: left Broadmann area (BA) 10, 11, 22, 38, 39, 40, 44-46, right BA10, bilateral BA18, 19, and left cerebellar cortex, claustrum and insula (t > 3.36, P < 0.01, k >30 voxels); its mean inhibited brain functional regions were: bilateral BA24, left BA7, 8, 19, 40, right BA 1, 3, 6, 20, 44, and left substantia nigra.
CONCLUSIONThere is a certain connection between Weizhong acupoint and the brain. Needling this acupoint could exert effects through activating or inhibiting brain function in specific regions and neurohumoral regulation. One of the central regulation mechanisms of acupuncture was functional activation in superior, middle, and inferior frontal gyrus, insula and cerebellum and functional inhibition in callosal gyrus, lobi parietalis and substantia nigra. This study further demonstrated PET/CT is useful in revealing TCM meridian theory and could provide objective proof of central regulation for acupuncture treatment.

OBJECTIVETo explore the functional brain localization with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after acupuncturing the Yuan-Source and He-Sea acupoints of Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming (ST).
METHODSThe study was performed in 30 healthy volunteers who underwent acupuncture at Yuan-Source acupoint (Chongyang, ST42) and He-Sea acupoint (Zusanli, ST36) (ST group). Ten of these were also underwent acupuncture at the non-acupoints as the control group. Blood oxygenation level dependent functional MRI was performed.
RESULTSIn the ST group, signal increasing areas were demonstrated in bilateral superior temporal gyri (Broadmann 22), bilateral supramarginal gyri (Broadmann 40), bilateral cerebellar hemispheres, bilateral cingulate gyri and isthmus of cingulate gyri (Broadmann 32, 30), bilateral superior parietal lobules (Broadmann 7); signal decreasing areas were shown in bilateral orbital gyri (Broadmann 11), bilateral temporal pole (Broadmann 38), right inferior frontal gyrus (Broadmann 47) and right medial occipitotemporal gyrus (Broadmann 36). In the control group, signal increases areas were demonstrated in superior temporal gyri, precentral gyri, cingulate gyri, thalamus, insula and cerebellum. The size, signal intensity and number of increasing areas in control group are less than in ST group.
CONCLUSIONCombined acupuncture of Yuan-Source and He-Sea acupoints of ST can activate and decrease the multiple brain regions of "splanchnic brain" and thus reach a new functional balance to relieve pain.
