0.05).There was significant difference in the 3-year survival rate between A and C group. Conclusions The 3-year survival rate was dramatically increased with combined therapy mainly by cisplatin, the dose of 60～80mg is tolerant for the elderly aged above seventy years, and perioperation complications can be cured.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the incidence rate, animal hosts, and human inapparent infection rate from surveillance data collected in Jiangsu province from 1996 to 2000 and the risk factors of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS).

METHODSData on the incidence rate was collected from the whole province to describe the epidemiologic characteristics of HFRS. Data on the density of rats, proportion of rats with virus, index of rats with virus and the human inapparent infection rate were collected in special areas according to the standardised protocol in the project.

RESULTSThe incidence rate of HFRS reduced continuously in Jiangsu province, with a 42.17% reduction from 1996 to 2000. The ratio between the incidence rate of autumn-winter peak and spring peak had also reduced. The main host in spring was Rattus norvegicus (with a density of 3.07%), while that in autumn was Apodemus agrarius (with a density of 4.64%). The density of main hosts and mixed species of rats had all reduced during the five years of observation. The proportions of Rattus norvegicus, Apodemus agrarius, Mus musculus with virus were relatively high in spring and autumn. The index of Rattus norvegicus and Mus musculus with virus in spring were 0.025 5 and 0.028 4 respectively, while that of Apodemus agrarius with virus in autumn was 0.030 2. The average human inapparent infection rate was 4.73% in the five years.

CONCLUSIONThe incidence rate of HFRS in Jiangsu reduced significantly from 1996 to 2000, but the risk factors still widely existed. Suggesting that the surveillance program needs to be carried out steadily in Jiangsu.

OBJECTIVETo explore the associated risk factors of metabolic syndrome in Jiangsu province, China.

METHODSUsing identical protocol and questionnaire, an epidemiological study was carried out in a population of 5888 adults in 12 counties in Jiangsu. Anthropometric test and blood sampling were conducted at the time of interview. IDF (2005) was used as the diagnostic criteria of metabolic syndrome . The prevalence and age-standardized prevalence of metabolic syndrome were calculated. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression model were used to identify associated risk factors.

RESULTSThe prevalence and age-standardized prevalence of metabolic syndrome in Jiangsu were 19.07% (11.10% in males and 25.72% in females) and 17.48% (11.49% in males, 22.86 % in females), respectively. Among the potential risk factors of metabolic syndrome as gender, age, education level, occupation, income, physical activity, smoking, alcohol drinking, disease family history, data from univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses suggested that gender (OR = 1.91), age (OR = 1.15), physical inactivity (OR = 1.94), with hypertension family history (OR = 1.99) and with obesity family history (OR = 6.24) could significantly increase the risk of disease development.

CONCLUSIONMetabolic syndrome has become a significant public health problem among the adults in Jiangsu province.

Objective To evaluate the protective effect of Yersinia pestis capsular antigen F1 and recombinant rV270 on mice after immunization with them.Methods According to body weight,40 female Balb/c mice aged 6 to 8 weeks were randomly divided into four experimental groups(Fl-10 μg + aluminum adjuvant,F1-20 μg + aluminum adjuvant,rV-10 μg + aluminum adjuvant,and rV-20 μg + aluminum adjuvant) and a control group,8 in each group.Mice in experimental groups were immunized with the natural antigen F1 and recombinant antigen rV270 adsorbed to 25％ aluminum adjuvant and the control group was immunized with the same amount of aluminum adjuvant.Each mouse was immunized at the hind leg muscle with 100 ml immunizing agent,then a booster immunization was done once on the 21st day after the first immunization.The blood of all mice was collected on the 8th week after the first immunization,serum antibody titers were detected by ELISA and the data of antibody titers were analyzed by t test for comparison between groups.At the same time the mice were injected subcutaneously with 2000-fold LD50 of Yersinia pestis virulent strain 141,after 14 days,the protective effect of immunization was analyzed.Results The control group did not produce antibody.Antibody geometric mean titers (GMT) of the F1-10 mg + aluminum adjuvant and F1-20 mg + aluminum adjuvant groups were 1 ∶ 30443.9,and 1 ∶21527.8,respectively,and compared between the two groups,the difference was not statistically significant (t =1.1282,P ＞ 0.05).The GMTs of the rV-10 μg + aluminum adjuvant and rV-20 μg + aluminum adjuvant groups were 1 ∶ 13957.3 and 1 ∶18100.9,respectively,and compared between the two groups,the difference was not statistically significant(t =0.9408,P ＞ 0.05 ).After subcutaneous injection with Yersinia pestis virulent strain 141,all mice died in the control group but all survived in the experimental group.Conclusion The immune activity of natural antigen F1 and recombinant rV270 is high,which can be used as the main component of subunit vaccine in the plague subunit vaccine study.

AIMThe electrographic and behavioral kindling effects were induced by chronic tetanization of the right caudate-putamen (CPu) to study the target-behavior expression involved in the CPu or hippocampus (HPC) network abnormalities.

METHODSExperiments were performed on 58 SD rats. Tetanization (60Hz,0.4 - 0.6mA, 2s) was delivered into the CPu or the HPC, once a day, for 7-12 days. Animal behaviors were observed every day and depth electrographs were recorded at the beginning or at the end of the experiments.

RESULTSChronic tetanization of the CPu or of the HPC induced: (1) Rhythmic sharp waves in the CPu and paroxysmal epileptiform events in the HPC electrographs. (2) Primary behavioral seizures, secondary behavioral seizures, and kindling effects, including wet dog shakes (WEDS), rearing, face washing, immobility, chewing and head nodding. (3) Lower rate of primary WEDS (P < 0.01), and higher rate of secondary WEDS (P < 0.01) in the CPu-tetanized rats. (4) Longer silent period of behavioral seizures before kindling appeared in the CPu-tetanized rats.

CONCLUSIONKindling effects in the CPu-tetanized rats resembles those in the HPC-tetanized rats. The CPu might participate in the origin of epileptic focus and be involved in reestablishment of limbic epileptic networks, which may be responsible for the target-behavioral seizures.

OBJECTIVETo study the epidemiological features of tic disorders (TD) among schoolchildren in Wenzhou area.

METHODSStratified cluster sampling was carried out to investigate TD in 9742 schoolchildren aged 7 to 16 years old in Wenzhou.

RESULTSThe average prevalence rate of TD among school-age children was 104/10 000 (166/10 000 for males, 29/10 000 for females). There was a significantly higher prevalence rate for males than that for females (chi(2) = 43.96, P < 0.001, prevalence ratio = 5.7, prevalence ratio 95% CI: 3.20 - 10.30). The prevalence rates of clinical subtypes in males was significantly higher than that of females while pupils was significantly higher than that in high school students (chi(2) = 11.33, P < 0.01, prevalence ratio = 2.2, prevalence ratio 95% CI: 1.37 - 3.43). Prevalence rate of transient tic disorders (TTD), chronic motor vocal tic disorder (CMVTD), tourette syndrome (TS) were 34/10 000, 27/10 000 and 43/10 000 respectively with the highest among 9-10 years old group. The mean onset age of TD was 8.5 +/- 2.8 years. The peak of onset was among 6-10 year olds. The rate of delayed diagnosis of the disorders was 69.3% and the median in delayed diagnosis was 1.0 year.

CONCLUSIONTD is a common disease with high rate of misdiagnoses among schoolchildren in Wenzhou area. Physicians and population should be trained to identify the syndromes and to practice correct diagnosis and effective treatment as early as possible.

OBJECTIVETo study the prevalence and distribution of Tourette syndrome (TS).

METHODSNine thousand, seven hundred and forty-two children and juveniles aged 7 - 16 years in Wenzhou were studied, using cluster random sampling method.

RESULTSThe prevalence of TS among school-age children was estimated to be 0.43% (0.74% for males and 0.07% for females). The prevalence of male children and juveniles was higher than that of female children and juveniles (chi(2) = 25.09, P < 0.001, prevalence ratio = 10.95, prevalence ratio 95% CI: 3.38 - 35.46). The highest prevalence of TS was between 9 - 10 years old. The mean age at onset of TS was 7.7 +/- 2.7 years, with 45.2% of them among 6 - 7 year olds. The rate of delayed diagnosis and rates of misdiagnosis and misclassification of the syndromes were 78.6%, 42.9% and 23.8%, respectively.

CONCLUSIONTourette syndrome had been a common disease of children and juveniles in Wenzhou area. The disease was correlated with age and sex, often misdiagnosed and misclassified. Physicians and as well as general publics should be trained to identify the cases.

Aliquots of venous blood from healthy donor were collected in plastic blood storage bags with ACD, GMA or antioxidant solution (superoxide dismutase, SOD), respectively, and stored at 4 degrees C. After storage for varying periods, the parameters of the blood were detected in the blood samples. Results showed that the parameters of the blood stored at 4 degrees C for 75 days in SOD group were following: the recovery of RBC-Hb was 87.2%, plasma-Hb (mg/L) was 193.2, P50 (mmHg) was 34.0 (normal value was 33.1); deformability (DImax) was 0.2413 (74.3% of normal value). There was no evident hemolysis, color change, air bubble and clots. It was concluded that human RBC stored at 4 degrees C for 75 days with SOD solution, recovery of levels of RBC-Hb and plasma-Hb were accorded with the requirements of "Basic Demands of Blood Station" in China.

OBJECTIVETo compare the significance of the application in Jiangsu population using the diagnostic criteria for metabolic syndrome(MS) proposed by the IDF in 2005, ATP III in 2005 and CDS in 2004.

METHODSBased on the populations in Jiangsu province from a project of Multiple Metabolic Disorders and MS, the study was conducted including 5888 cases, with data of plasma glucose, lipid profile, blood pressure, serum insulin etc. MS was diagnosed and compared according to these three definitions respectively.

RESULTSThe age-adjusted MS prevalence rates were 17.48%, 21.95% and 9.59% according to the IDF(2005), ATP III (2005) and CDS (2004) respectively. The agreement in the diagnosis of MS using ATP III (2005) and CDS(2004) definitions was 85.11%, and the agreement in the diagnosis of MS using IDF(2005) and CDS definitions was 87.35%. The agreement in the diagnosis of MS using IDF (2005) and ATP III (2005) definitions was 95.14%. The MS subjects diagnosed by the ATP III (2005) was 1.26 higher than subjects diagnosed by the IDF(2005) definition. The ratios of prevalence rates of high waist circumference(WC), MS_IDF (2005) and MS_ATP III (2005) was 2.17, 1.99 and 1.54 in sex ratio (woman to man).

CONCLUSIONThe agreement in the diagnosis of MS using the IDF(2005) and ATP III (2005) definition was higher than using CDS(2004) and other two definitions. For diagnosing MS, the cut off of WC in IDF(2005) and ATP III (2005) seemed not appropriate and the diagnostic criteria used for ATP III (2005) (waist circumference of man 85 cm, woman 80 cm) could identify more MS.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinical application of superior or inferior gluteal artery perforator flaps for the gluteal sores.

METHODSBefore operation, the perforator artery was detected by Doppler flowmeter and labeled. The perforator flap was designed, including the perforator artery, but not the gluteal maximum muscle.

RESULTSFrom Aug. 2006 to May 2009, 15 cases were treated. The flap size ranged from 6 cm x 8 cm to 7 cm x 15 cm. All the flaps survived completely without hematoma, seroma or other complication.

CONCLUSIONSThe gluteal maximum muscle-reserved gluteal artery perforator flap is a good choice for gluteal sore with reliable blood supply and less morbidity in donor site.
