Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2008;14(4):398-400
Objective To investigate the rehabilitation training and education of one pair of twins with severe spasm type cerebral palsy(CP).Methods The rehabilitation training and education lasting 6 years was performed for one pair of twins(two girls with dysfunction in motion, one had basically normal intelligence, another one had poor intelligence). Results After rehabilitation training and education, the child with normal intelligence could walk by the help of crutch(initially, she could not sit independently)and study in a common learning environment with other child and gain a good performance record.Another child with low intelligence had very little improvement in motor function and intelligence. Conclusion By rehabilitation training and education, the children with cerebral palsy can minimize their disabled level on intelligence and recover their motor function.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of computed tomography guided radiofrequency(RF) ablation of non-small cell lung carcinoma with a clustered electrode. Methods 71 patients were allocated to 2 group:the group A(36 patients) were undergone RF tissue ablation 38 times and analysed image data, tumor size before and after the procedure were compared, the group B(35 patients) were treated with the combined chemotherapy of "FAP" or "CAP".Results The group A thirty-six cases at 10 days, twenty at 30 days, fifteen at 60 days after the ablation, all patients were repeatedly examined by CT scans, respectively. The tumor size was decreased by 20% at 10 days in 69% patients, decreased by 30% at 30 days in 75% patients, decreased by 50% at 60 days in 53% patients and disappeared in 13%,no operative death was noted, the effective rates were 66% in group A and 22 9% in group B respectively(P

Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology 2013;(20):1224-1226
Objective: To investigate the relationship between peripheral blood absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) and patients with multiple myeloma (MM). Methods:We obtained clinical features and follow-up data of 102 patients with MM to analyze the prog-nostic value of peripheral blood ALC. Results:Patients with ALC>1.51×109/L were designated as group 1, whereas patients with ALC<1.51×109/L were designated as group 2. Group 1 had significantly lower age as well as concentrations of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) andβ2-MG than group 2 (P<0.05). The overall survival (OS) of group 1 was significantly higher than group 2 (P<0.05). Sex, ALB, Du-rie-Salmon stage, isotype, subgroup, and stage according to the International Staging System in group 1 were not significantly different compared with group 2 (P>0.05). Conclusion:Lower ALC is a poor prognosis factor. ALC may be an important prognostic factor of MM.

Chinese Journal of Rheumatology 2013;17(9):606-610
Objective To explore the efficacy of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for rheumatoid arthritis (RA).Methods The literature about HRT in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis were searched.Eleven papers were subjected to a Meta-analysis and a heterogeneity test was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of HRT.Results HRT reduced the level of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in RA patients (P=0.016),the SMD was-0.22(-0.40,-0.04); improved bone mineral density (BMD) in RA patients (P=0.022),the WMD was 2.83(0.41,5.26); decreased clinical parameters for disease activity evaluations of RA patients (P=0.048),the SMD was-0.19 (-0.38,0.00); decreased the level of C-reactive protein (CRP) in RA patients, the SMD was-0.08 (-0.37,0.21),but the difference was not statistically significant (P=0.591).Conclusion The findings from this Meta-analysis indicate that HRT can reduce the ESR level, improve clinical indexes and improve BMD level of RA patients.HRT may suppress disease activity and osteoporosis of RA patients,so it may be used as an auxiliary therapy in the treatment of RA.

To construct a lentiviral shRNA vector targeting human protein phosphatase 1D magnesium-dependent (PPM1D) gene and detect its effectiveness of gene silencing in human gliomas, specific siRNA targets with short hairpin frame were designed and synthesized. DNA oligo was cloned into the pFU-GW-iRNA lentiviral expression vector, and then PCR and sequencing analyses were conducted to verify the constructs. After the verified plasmids were transfected into 293T cells, the lentivirus was produced and the titer of virus was determined. Real-time quantitative PCR and Western blot were performed to detect the PPM1D expression level in the infected glioma cells. PCR and Western blot analyses revealed the optimal interfering target, and the virus with a titer of 6×10(8) TU/mL was successfully packaged. The PPM1D expression in human glioma cells was knocked down at both mRNA and protein levels by virus infection. The expression of PPM1D mRNA and protein was decreased by 76.3% and 87.0% respectively as compared with control group. The multiple functions of human glioma cells after PPM1D RNA interference were detected by flow cytometry and cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8). Efficient down-regulation of PPM1D resulted in significantly increased cell apoptosis and reduced cell proliferation and invasion potential in U87-MG cells. We have successfully constructed the lentiviral shRNA expression vector capable of stable PPM1D gene silencing at both mRNA and protein levels in glioma cells. And our data gave evidence that the reduced cell growth observed after PPM1D silencing in glioma cells was at least partly due to increased apoptotic cell death.

The nuclear factor erythroid 2 related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a key protein of endogenous antioxidant defense systems in the body. In response to oxidative stress, Nrf2 translocates to nucleus and binds to antioxidant response elements (ARE), regulating the expression of a large amounts of antioxidant genes and maintaining a proper redox balance. The pathological processes of neurodegenerative diseases are associated with generation of reactive oxygen species, which cause oxidative stress. Oxidative stress plays a cardinal role in the onset and progression of neurodegenerative diseases. Nrf2-inducer compounds can reduce oxidant stress and have shown therapeutic efficacy in many neurodegenerative disease models. How to activate the Nrf2 signaling pathway effectively has been received much attention. Here we provided an overview of specific mechanism of Nrf2-ARE pathway and the protective effects of Nrf2 in different neurodegenerative diseases, and summarized the Nrf2 activators recently in preclinical study.
