Asteroid Hyalosis (AH) is a common clinical disease,which has been considered a benign disorder as it rarely impairs visual acuity.It was often discovered when the patient was treated for other eye diseases.The mechanism was unclear.Its characteristic B-ultrasound property makes the B-ultrasound a very helpful diagnostic technique.In the case of the patients with other fundus diseases associated with AH,optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fluorescein angiography (FA) may be used to reduce the interference from asteroid bodies,therefore improve the fundus visibility.Recent studies have shown that AH can incorporate with many other eye diseases.For example,in patients with cataracts,asteroid hyalosis can cause surface calcification of silicone plate intraocular lenses,which in most cases may lead to the need for explantation of the calcified intraocular lenses.The efficacy of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV),the removal of some,or all,of the eye`s vitreous humor for AH remains controversial.In this paper,we provide a review of the recent literature on AH disease: the etiology,diagnosis and treatment.We hope to thus improve the awareness and outcomes of AH disease.

AIM: To investigate the expression and significance of hypoxia-inducible factor -1α (HIF-1α)and Cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) in the retinal neovascularization.METHODS: Mouse model of hyperoxia-induced ischemic retinopathy were established. A novel flucorescein-dextran perfusion method has been developed to assess the vascular pattern. histological methods were used to count blood vessel profiles in the inner retina with HE staining.HIF-1α and COX-2 expression in the retina was determined by immunohistochemical method.RESULTS: Lots of neovascularization were seen in hyperoxia group. The number of nuclei of proliferative retinal vessels increased significantly as compared with normal control group (P＜0.001). The expression of HIF -1α was noted in the ganglion cells and retinal blood vessels. The expression of COX-2 was noted in the inner nuclear layer and ganglion cells and retinal blood vessels.CONCLUSION: There are the expression of HIF-1α and COX-2 in the retinal neovascularization and they have correlation.

The intraspecies quorum sensing system of Streptococcus mutans is involved with com genes family.ComE is a kind of response regulator and act as a promoter to the quorum sensing genes.S.mutans comE mutant strain IFD140?comE was constructed using the inframe-deletion system via twice homologous recombination.In current genetic studies of S.mutans,insertion duplication and allelic exchange mutagenesis techniques routinely create polar effects to downstream genes.In-frame deletions are essentially free of these polar effects because the mutation does not introduce any genetic markers.By PCR,sequencing and RT-PCR,it was confirmed that IFD140?comE has only 717bp deleted within the comE gene and the transcription of the downstream gene comD was not interfered.The research of the morphological characteristics indicated that IFD140?comE formed clumps and cells accumulated at the bottom of the glass tubes and light-microscopic observations displayed that the mutant strain formed significantly longer chains compared to those formed by the wild strain.The successfully construction of IFD140?comE lay a foundation for further quorum sensing research.

ObjectiveTo investigate the status of an illness of endemic fluorosis in Xuchang city,and to evaluate the effect of implementation of control measures.MethodsIn 2009,Changge city and Xuchang county were chosen as survey counties(city).We investigated the surveillance counties (city) about the running state of water-inproving projects,and fluoride content of drinking water in the villages,and ten villages were chosen as survey villages,dental fluorosis and fluoride content of children aged 8 to 12,clinical skeletal fluorosis and urinary fluoride content of 16-year-old adult were investigated.ResultsIn all the villages with projects of defluoridation for drinking water of the two monitoring counties,that the projects was being used accounted for 61.39％(97/158),and the projects discarded accounted for 38.61％(61/158).In the 9 non-water-improving villages,the average water fluoride ranged 1.32 - 2.25 mg/L; in the 1 water-improving village,the mean water fluoride was 0.44 mg/L.The total rate of dental fluorosis of children aged 8 to 12 was 38.65％ (80/207),and the geometric mean of urinary fluoride was 1.65 mg/L.The rate of adult skeletal fluorosis by clinical detection was 0.30％ (9/2982),and the geometric mean of urinary fluoride was 2.09 mg/L.ConclusionsXuchang city is a mild to moderate fluorosis epidemic areas of endemic fluorosis,and condition of the disease has not yet been effectively controlled,and there is need to further intensify the prevention and control efforts.

Objective To clone,express,and purify Tp 0319 outer membrane protein of Treponema pallidum and to develop an indirect ELISA for diagnosing syphilis.Methods The expression plasmid PQE32/Tp 0319 was conventionally constructed.The recombinant Tp 0319 protein was produced in E.coli M15 after induction by IPTG.The Tp 0319 protein was analyzed by SDS-PAGE and Western blotting,and then purified with Ni-NTA affinity chromatography.Indirect ELISA was developed to detect the syphilis antibody in human sera.Results The recombinant plasmid PQE32/Tp 0319 was constructed successfully and the fusion protein with relative molecular weight near 30 000 Dalton was revealed by SDS-PAGE.Western blotting proved that the recombinant protein specifically reacted with anti-Tp antibodies in sera from syphilis patients.The results of the indirect ELISA indicated the sensitivity and the specificity were both 100%.The concordance of 300 sera(150 from blood donors and 150 from syphilis patients)detected in parallel by the ELISA and the TPPA was 95.3%.Conclusions The data suggest that the prepared recombinant protein Tp 0319 of Treponema pallidum has high immunoreactivity.The recombinant protein can be used to develop ELISA kit for diagnosing syphilis.
