OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of fructopyrano-(1 → 4)-glucopyranose (FG) extracted from Radix Isatidis on the tumor growth and immune activity in tumor-bearing mice. METHODS: The antitumor activity of FG in vivo was observed by implanted H22 and S180 mouse models. The effect of FG on immune function in tumor-bearing mice was investigated by using phagocytosis test, T plymphocyte proliferation test, and Elisa for determining the expression levels of TNF-α, IL-2, IL-6, and IL-12. RESULTS: At dosages of 50, 100 and 200 mg · kg-1, the inhibition rates of FG were 23.60%, 36.76% and 49.26% for S180, 22.61%, 36.52%, and 46.95% for H22, respectively. FG increased the spleen index and chest gland index, improved the phagocytosis function of the macrophage and enhance the T lymphocytes proliferation, and increased the expression levels of TNF-α, IL-2, IL-6, and IL-12. CONCLUSION: FG exhibits significant anti-tumor effect in vivo and the mechanism may be related to enhancing immune function. Copyright 2012 by the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of Tanshinone II A on severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) lung injury (ALI) rats and its possible mechanism.

METHODSSD rats were injected with sodium taurocholate to induce SAP group, and then intervened with sodium tanshinone II A sulfonate ( STS group). Simultaneously a sham-operation group (SO group) was set up. There were 24 rats in each group. The survival state and wet-to-dry weight ratio of lung tissues were observed. Activities of myeloperoxidase (MPO) in lung were determined by MPO reagent kit. Pathologic changes of lung tissues were determined by Hofbuaer method. Expression levels of three cytokines, TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, and intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) were detected by ELISA.

RESULTSThe survival state of rats in the SAP group was deteriorated. The wet-to-dry weight ratio, MPO activities, pathologic changes in lung tissues, and expression levels of TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, and ICAM-1 increased significantly more in the SAP group than in the SO group (P < 0.05). Compared with those in the SAP group, the survival state of rats in the STS group was improved; the wet-to-dry weight ratio, MPO activities, pathologic changes in lung tissues, and expression levels of TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, and ICAM-1 obviously decreased in the STS group (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONTanshinone II A had remarkable effect on SPA LI rats, which might be associated with changing cytokines levels and attenuating infiltration of lung inflammatory cells.

Objective: To systematically evaluate risk factors for cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM), so as to provide the evidence for formulating CMM prevention and control strategies. Methods: Publications pertaining to the risk factors for CMM were retrieved from databases, including SinoMed, CNKI, Wanfang Data, VIP, PubMed and Cochrane Library from inception to March 31, 2023. Meta-analysis was performed using the software RevMan 5.4 and Stata 16.0, and sensitivity analysis was performed using the leave-one-out method. The publication bias was evaluated using Egger's test. Results: Totally 494 publications were screened, and 20 publications were included in the final analysis, including 13 cohort studies (covering 1 940 000 participants) and 7 cross-sectional studies (covering 13 000 000 participants). Meta-analysis revealed that female (OR=1.54, 95%CI: 1.40-1.71), middle age (OR=3.80, 95%CI: 3.33-4.34), elderly (OR=2.82, 95%CI: 1.48-5.37), urban resident (OR=1.41, 95%CI: 1.27-1.57), higher education level (OR=2.01, 95%CI: 1.35-3.01), higher economic level (OR=1.21, 95%CI: 1.16-1.25), overweight (OR=1.92, 95%CI: 1.64-2.26), obesity (OR=3.01, 95%CI: 2.30-3.93), central obesity (OR=1.70, 95%CI: 1.12-2.56), smoking (OR=1.27, 95%CI: 1.07-1.51), alcohol consumption (OR=1.27, 95%CI: 1.01-1.59), irregular diet (OR=1.10, 95%CI: 1.02-1.18), insufficient intake of vegetables and fruits (OR=1.12, 95%CI: 1.07-1.17), lack of sleep at night (OR=1.17, 95%CI: 1.08-1.27), and depression (OR=1.50, 95%CI: 1.33-1.69) were risk factors for CMM. Sensitivity analysis of effects of central obesity and alcohol consumption were not robust. No publication bias was examined by Egger's test. Conclusions Female, middle age, elderly, urban resident, higher education level, higher economic level, overweight, obesity, central obesity, smoking, alcohol consumption, irregular diet, insufficient intake of vegetables and fruits, lack of sleep at night and depression are risk factors for CMM.

Objective To understand the psychological health status of the middle and primary school students,and to provide some advice of their mental health care.Methods In 11 611 middle and primary school students in 18 schools in Maojian area of Shiyan city,the students,teachers and parents at 5 schods were investigated a randomely,targets were examined by Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist(CBCL),Pupil Rating Scale Revised Screening for Learning(PRS),Conner's Parent Symptom Questionnaire(PSQ)and Conner's Teacher Rating Scale(TRS)and self-established questionnaires for general information.Results The investigation demonstrated:89.29% of students possessed very promising dreams and sublime pursuits,and had correct outlook on life and values;10.71% of students had comparatively severe psychological problems.The major problems appeared to be indefinite purpose of study,shorted of mental endurance and severe impulsivetrend.Moreover,an-xiety,emotion instability and solitary trend caused indifference,sheepish ness and difficulty in their communication.Conclusion Schools,families and society pay close attention to students,mental health and help the youngsters develop in a healthily psychdogical way.

Objective To investigate the influence of acupuncture on Nestin expression in the cerebral cor- tex of hypoxia-ischemic neonatal rats.Methods A total of 72 Sprague-Dawley(SD)rats aged 7 days were random- ly divided into three groups:A normal group(n=24),the hypoxic-ischemic encepbalopathy(HIE)group(n=24), and an acupuncture+HIE group(n=24).The rats were sacrificed at time points including 3d,7d,14d and 28d af- ter insult,their brains were removed and sections were made.Any nerve stem cells(NSCs)in the cerebral cortex were detected using immunohistochemical staining of Nestin.Results Nestin-positive cells were found in the cere- bral cortex in the normal neonatal SD rats early after birth.After HI insult,the Nestin-positive cells had increased in the injured areas of the cortex and in contralateral mirror areas,especially around the injured areas.Peak Nestin ex- pression was 3 days after insult.In the acupuncture+HIE group,Nestin positive cells were significantly increased when compared with that in the HIE group,the peak was postponed,and the peak was longer than in the HIE group. The Nestin positive cells decreased,were seldom seen,and were not different among three groups 28 days after the HI insult.Conclusions Endogenous neural stem cells in the cerebral cortex were increased by acupuncture in hy- poxia-ischemic in neonatal rats,and acupuncture made the peak of Nestin expression longer.

Part of the patients with transient ischemic attack (TIA) may develop ischemic stroke.Some of them may die because of complicating cardiovascular disease.Studies in recent years have shown that the ABCD2 score has an important value in the evaluation of the prognosis of TIA.This article summarizes the source and application of the ABCD2 score,and focuses on the roles of the score in the evaluation of the prognosis of TIA.

The full length cDNA encoding peroxisomal membrane protein from Chaetomium globosum was cloned using RACE technology and the sequence in cDNA library of C. globosum in GenBank ( Accn: BP099709). The 747bp full length cDNA encoding peroxisomal membrane protein allergen (pero) gene was assembled with 412bp 3'and 508bp 5'RACE products. The open reading frame was 501 bp encoding 166 amino acids. The molecular weight of the protein was 17. 5kDa and its theoretical isoelectric point was 5.75. The pero gene was amplified using specific primers of cDNA 5'and 3'untranslated region, sequence analysis indicated that the gene have 3 exons and 2 introns. ClustalX analysis revealed that amino acids sequence of pero gene from C. globosum and Neurospora crassa shared 83% high similarity. To construct pET28a-pero expressive plasmid, pero gene was inserted into pET28a expressive vector. Escherichia coli BL21 transformed by pET28a-pero plasmid was induced with IPTG. The protein expression was analyzed with SDS-PAGE. A 21kDa pero fusion protein representing the pero gene was expressed in recombinant E. coli BL21. The sequences of cDNA,DNA and deduced amino acid of the pero gene from C. globosum were submitted to GenBank (Accn: AY555771, AY584753,AAS66898).
