Asthma is one kind of chronic respiratory tract inflammatory disease.Recently,it has been discovered that the small airway also participates in asthmatic pathogenesis. The small airway which diameter is less than 2 mm is one of the smallest regions in the lung. Its function may be affected by the small airway disease and related with the airway hyperresponsiveness. Some structural changes in the small airway is the latent reason which aggravates asthma. The change of small airway function in the mild asthma can cause the change of airway hyperresponsiveness. So it is considered that the small airway function is one of the methods to monitor the asthmatic situation.

OBJECTIVEThis work lays the foundation for establishing a digital model database with normal occlusion. A digital dental cast is acquired through grating projection, and model features are measured through reverse engineering.
METHODSThe grating projection system controlled by a computer was projected onto the surface of a normal dental model. Three-dimensional contour data were obtained through multi-angle shooting. A three-dimensional model was constructed, and the model features were analyzed by using reverse engineering. The digital model was compared with the plaster model to determine the accuracy of the measurement system.
RESULTSThe structure of three-dimensional reconstruction model was clear. The digital models of two measurements exhibited no significant difference (P > 0.05). When digital and plaster models were measured, we found that the crown length and arch width were not statistically different (P > 0.05), whereas the difference between the crown width and arch length was statistically significant (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe reconstruction of a digital model by using the grating projection technique and reverse engineering can be used for dental model measurement in clinic al and scientific research and can provide a scientific method for establishing a digital model database with normal occlusion.

Objective To investigate the difference of the protein expression in serum of rats with acute edematous pancreatitis (AEP) and acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP),and to investigate serum marker for acute pancreatitis severity. Methods The model of AEP and ANP was induced by retrograde injection of 4% or 5% sodium taurocholate into the biliopancreatic duct.Weak cation exchange (WCX2) and surface enhanced laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry ( SELDI TOF MS) was used to investigate the difference of the protein expression in serum of rats with AEP and ANP.Results Thirty-eight spectral peak clusters which had significantly different signal intensities between AEP and ANP sera at mass charge ratio between 1000-50 000(P <0.05) were detected. The peak clusters at 9500 and 9700 in the sera of AEP were higher than that in ANP rata. Conclusions Serum analysis with SELDI-TOF MS can detect the difference of the protein expression in rats with AEP and ANP.The decreased expression of the protein of molecular weight of 9500 and 9700 may be a signal of AEP transition into ANP.

Epicatechin content in Uncaria macrophylla Wall. was determined by RP-HPLC. As aresult, the epicatechin contents were 0.38% in the hook and stem, and 0. 820% in the leaf. Thus it seemedto be more worthwhile to produce epicatechin from the leaf rather than from the hook and stem.

Objective To investigate the appropriate reconstruction techniques of multi-detector-row spiral CT angiography (MDCTA) to depict the collateral vessels in cavernous transformation of the portal vein (CTPV) caused by tumor thrombosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods MDCTA scanning was performed during the portal venous phase after intravenous contrast materials in 18 HCC patients with CTPV induced by tumor thrombosis. Raw data were reconstructed with thin slice thickness followed by 2D and 3D angiographic reconstruction methods, including maximum intensity projection(MIP), shade surface display (SSD) and volume rendering technique(VRT). Results MDCTA with MIP reconstruction accurately depicted both the tumor thrombus within the portal vein and the collateral vessels of CTPV including the biliary (cystic vein and pericholedochal veinous plexus) and the gastric (left and right gastric veins) branches. However, VRT and SSD methods did poorly in showing the tumor thrombus and the collateral vessels. Conclusion MDCTA with MIP reconstruction is the method of choice to evaluate the collateral vessels of CTPV.
