Chinese Journal of Digestion 2001;0(07):-
Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics of colorectal cancer and its trend in Guangdong province. Methods The data from 6501 patients with pathologically confirmed colorectal cancer of 5 hospitals from 1990 to 2004 was analyzed. Results The mean age of 6501 patients with colo- rectal cancer was 59 years old, with the predominant age ranged from 61 to 70 years old.The proportion of young patients decreased from 7.1% to 3.5%.and the ratio between male and female was 1.47:1, which was gradually increased with increasing of age.The prevelence reached a high peak(60 years old) and dropped after that as a single peak curve. The ratio between rectal cancer and colon cancer was 1.1: 1,and the descending colon cancer accounted for 27.6%.With ageing, the rectal cancers decreased while the right hemi colon cancer increased gradually.Tubular adenocarinoma was predominant with his- tological typing, which accounted for 76.0%.The progressing stage(Dukes B,C,and D)was found in 93.9% of all cases. Conclusions The onset age of patients with colorectal cancer become close to west- ern country. The proportion of young patients are decreasing. The ratio between male and female dis- plays a single peak curve from rising to dropping.A tendency of decreasing percentage in rectal cancer and the gradual increasing in right hemi colon cancer emphasize the importance of colonoscopy in colorec- tal caner screening.

Chinese Journal of Plastic Surgery 2013;29(6):448-452
OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of 6-gingerol, the main active component of ginger, on hair shaft elongation in vitro and hair growth in vivo.
METHODSFirstly, Hair follicles were co-cultured with 3 different concentration of 6-gingerol for 5 days and hair elongation in three groups was measured. Secondly, The proliferative effect of 6-gingerol on DPCs was measured using MTT assay. Thirdly, the expression of Bcl-2 and Bax in DPCs were measured using Western blotting. In vivo study, the influence of 6-gingerol on hair growth in C57BL/6 rats was measured through topical application of 6-gingerol on the dorsal skin of each animal.
RESULTSThe length of hair shaft in 20 microg/ml 6-Gingerol group (0.50 +/- 0.08 mm) is less than 0 microg/ml (0.66 +/- 0.19) mm and 10 microg/ml (0.64 +/- 0.03) mm 6-Gingerol group (P < 0.05). In cell culture, compared to 0 microg/ml and 5 microg/ml 6-Gingerol, 10 microg/ml 6-Gingerol can significantly inhibited the proliferation of DPCs (P < 0.05). Along with the growth inhibition of DPCs by 6-gingerol, the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio increased obviously. In vivo study, the hair length and density decreased a lot after using 1 mg/ml 6-gingerol.
CONCLUSIONS6-Gingerol can suppress human hair shaft elongation because it has pro-apoptotic effects on DPCs via increasing Bax/Bcl-2 ratio. It might inhibit hair growth by prolonging the telogen stage in vivo.

Objective To compare adductor canal block(ACB)with topical anesthesia for postoperative analgesia in the patients undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. Methods Sixty patients of both sexes, aged 18-64 yr,with body mass index of 18-30 kg/m2,of American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status ⅠorⅡ,scheduled for elective arthroscopic meniscectomy, were divided into 2 groups (n=30 each) using a random number table:ACB group and topical anesthesia group(TA group). In group ACB,0.2% ropivacaine 20 ml was injected into the adductor canal under the guidance of ultrasound at 30 min before operation to perform ACB.In group TA,0.25% ropivacaine 20 ml was injected into the articular cavity at 5 min before the end of operation. The development of effective analgesia (VAS scores ≤4)and weakened quadriceps femoris muscle strength(muscle strength 0-2 grade,post-operative muscle strength was assessed by using manual muscle testing),related complications(local anesthetic intoxication, bleeding at the puncture site and hematoma) and occurrence of postoperative nausea, vomiting and delayed emergence were recorded. Results Compared with group TA,the rate of effective analgesia within 12 h after surgery was significantly increased (P<0.01),and no significant change was found in the incidence of weakened quadriceps femoris muscle strength, nausea and vomiting in group ACB(P>0.05).Local anesthetic intoxication, bleeding at the puncture site, hematoma or delayed emergence was not observed in the two groups. Conclusion ACB produces better efficacy for postoperative analgesia than topical anesthesia in the patients undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.
