OBJECTIVETo compare the efficacy difference in treatment of myofasical pain syndrome between sparrow-pecking moxibustion and acupuncture at trigger points so as to provide the reference of the effective therapeutic method for myofascial pain syndrome.
METHODSNinety patients were randomized into a sparrow-pecking moxibustion group and an acupuncture group, 45 cases in each one. The trigger points were selected in pain areas in the two groups. In the sparrow-pecking moxibustion group, the sparrow-pecking moxibustion was applied, 30 min in each time. In the acupuncture group, the filiform needles were inserted obliquely at 45 degrees and retained for 40 min in each treatment. The treatment was given once a day and 10 treatments made one session in the two groups. The short-form McGill pain questionnaire was used as the observation index, and the changes in pain rating index (PRI), present pain intensity (PPI) and visual analogue scale (VAS) before and after treatment were used for efficacy assessment.
RESULTSThe results of PRI, PPI and VAS after treatment were reduced apparently as compared with those before treatment in the sparrow-pecking moxibustion group and the acupuncture group (all P<0.001). The differences in PRI, PPI and VAS after treatment were not significant in comparison of the two groups (both P>0.05). The curative and remarkably effective rate was 80.0% (36/45) in the sparrow-pecking moxibustion group, which was better than 40.0% (18/45, P<0.001) in the acupuncture group.
CONCLUSIONSparrow-pecking moxibustion at trigger points achieves the superior efficacy on myofascial pain syndrome as compared with acupuncture at trigger points. This therapy is simpler in operation additionally.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the economics of azithromycin vs. amocillin clavulante in the treatment of lower respirato-ry tract infections. METHODS:System evaluation was adopted to retrieve the randomized controlled trials(RCT)about azithromy-cin(test group)vs. amoxicillin clavulanate(control group)in the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections. Information was col-lected and Meta-analyses were performed. On this basis and short-term decision tree model, cost factors were added to conduct the pharmacoeconomics by the principle of PICO of Treeage Pro 2011 edition software. RESULTS:Totally 18 RCT were enrolled,in-volving 3 365 patients. Results of Meta-analysis showed that there were no significant differences in the effective rate [RR=0.93, 95%CI(0.55,1.55),P=0.77] and incidence of adverse reactions [RR=0.79,95%CI(0.62,1.0),P=0.05] between 2 groups. The av-erage treatment cost in test group and control group was respectively 790.4 yuan and 884.4 yuan, and cost-effectiveness ratio was respectively 216.0 and 245.7,and the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio(ICER)was -1 392.59. CONCLUSIONS:Azithromycin has similar efficacy and safety to amoxicillin clavulanate in the treatment of lower respiratory tract infection,however,azithromy-cin has better cost-effectiveness.
6.Association of the xeroderma pigmentosum group D DNA repair gene with hepatocellular carcinoma.
Chinese Journal of Hepatology 2012;20(9):683-687
OBJECTIVETo explore the association between polymorphisms in the DNA repair gene, xeroderma pigmentosum group D (XPD), and development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the Chinese population by performing a systematic review of the previously published clinical data.
METHODA comprehensive literature search of the BIOSIS Previews and PubMed databases was carried out to identify all case-control studies of XPD polymorphisms and HCC risk. Meta-analysis was conducted to calculate the pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of developing HCC for carriers of the various XPD polymorphisms.
RESULTSSix case-control studies were selected for this meta-analysis, and comprised a total of 3424 HCC cases and 3636 controls. The pooled ORs (95% CIs) of XPD codon 751 and 312 allelomorphs were 1.25 (0.70 to 2.24) and 0.85 (0.58 to 1.25), respectively. Compared with the XPD wild-type homozygote Lys/Lys genotype of codon 751, the pooled OR (95% CI) of Lys/G1n + Gln/Gln genotypes for HCC risk was 1.31 (0.71 to 2.42). Compared with the XPD wild-type homozygote Asp/Asp genotype of codon 312, the pooled OR (95% CI) of Asp/Asn + Asn/Asn genotypes for HCC risk was 1.19 (0.73 to 1.95).
CONCLUSIONPolymorphisms in the XPD codons 751 and 312 are not associated with HCC risk in the Chinese population.
