Chinese Journal of Stomatology 2004;39(5):373-375
OBJECTIVETo study the antimetastatic effects of genistein on salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC-M) in vivo.
METHODSACC-M cells were exposed to genistein for 3 days. The treated cells and control cells were then injected into the tail vein of 20 nude mice, which were randomized into 2 groups. The mice were sacrificed at the sixth week after implantation. The lung metastasis rates and the number of metastases were detected. Apoptosis index (AI), the expression of VEGF and MMP-9 of the lung metastases were also observed.
RESULTSCompared to the control groups, the number of metastases was significantly reduced in genistein treated group (P < 0.05). The AI of ACC-M cells was higher in the treated group than in the control group (P < 0.05). The level of VEGF and MMP-9 expression were decreased in the treated groups (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSGenistein has a moderate inhibitory effect on metastasis of ACC. Inducing apoptosis, inhibiting the expression of VEGF and MMP-9 are the mechanisms of antimetastatic effects of genistein on ACC-M in nude mice.

Through study on the correlation between atractylodis lactones ingredient content and climatic factors, we research regionalization from climatic of five main producing provinces of the country, in order to provide a scientific basis for atractylodis' conscious cultivation. By sampling from 40 origins which from five main producing provinces of the country, we use SPSS to analysis variation of atractylodis lactones ingredient content in different conditions of climatic factors and the effect of each factors. Then according to the relationship between atractylodis lactones ingredient content and climatic factors, we use ArcGIS to conduct ecological suitability regionalization based on climatic factors. The most suitable climatic condition for cultivation of atractylodis: the wettest month precipitation 220-230 mm, the warmest average temperature 25 degrees C, the average temperature of driest season 10 degrees C.

The fine structure of enoxaparin sodium samples with different degree of 1,6-anhydro derivatives were analyzed with polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, high performance liquid chromatography, ultraviolet spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. A further study of anticoagulation activity of enoxaparins was performed, including those on their inhibition activities of coagulation factor Xa (FXa) and thrombin (FIIa). The results showed that the anti-FXa and -FIIa activities of enoxaparins with different degree of 1,6-anhydro derivatives (20.0%-39.7%) with similar structure characteristics, had decreasing tendency when the degree of 1,6-anhydro derivatives increased. Especially, the anti-FXa activity was sensitive to the change of the degree of 1,6-anhydro derivatives.

OBJECTIVETo report the results of repair of skin defects in the extremities with arterialized venous flap harvested from the lateral aspect of the dorsum of the foot.
METHODSSix cases of skin and soft tissue defects over the foot and hands were resurfaced by free arterialized venous flaps, including five patients with skin defects of the hands, and one with defects at the dorsum of the foot. The flaps were harvested from the lateral aspect of the dorsum of the foot with the sizes ranging from 2 cm multiply 5.5 cm to 6 cm multiply 11 cm. Two veins at the proximal margin of the flap were retained, one of which was anastomosed to a recipient bed artery to provide arterial inflow and the other was anastomosed to a recipient bed vein for venous outflow.
RESULTSAll flaps demonstrated mild edema and survived completely. Blisters appeared on four flaps. Using this technique, we achieved good functional and cosmetic results in this series.
CONCLUSIONSDorsalis pedis arterialized venous flap with rich vascular communications could enhance peripheral perfusion and decrease congestion of venous flaps, thereby improves reliability and utility for extremity reconstruction.
