Objective To establish the rabbit model for acute retinal necrosis(ARN) and investigate the possible route of the virus migrates from one eye to the other. Design Experimental study. Participants 41 chinchilla rabbits. Methods HSV-1 COS strain was inoculated into subretina in 41 rabbits to establish ARN animal model. Ganciclovir was used to treat by intraocular and/or intravenous injection 1 day or 3 days after virus inoculation. PCR test of blood samples was performed for HSV detection. Histopathological examinations were also conducted in some eyeballs, optic nerves and brains of the rabbits. Main Outcome Measures Results of blood PCR and histopathology. Results 10 rabbits appeared bilateral retina necrosis (10 to 18 days after virus inoculation) and 15 rabbits appeared central nervous system damages. PCR samples of 5 rabbits obtained before and after the contralateral retina damages appeared (9 to 19 days after virus inoculation) had all negative results. Histopathological damages were found in bilateral eyeballs, optic nerves and brains. Conclusion The ARN model can be established by injection of HSV-1 into subretina of rabbits. Blood samples PCR don't support the hypothesis of virus transmission through circulation system in bilateral ARN cases. Trans-optic chiasm transmission may be a possible route.

Objective To evaluate the murine model of dry eye induced by hyperosmolar saline. Methods Sixty female BALB/c mice at the age of 6 -8 weeks were randomly divided into blank group,control group and experimental group,20 in each group. Mice in control and experimental groups were treated with 308 mOsmol/L and 500 mOsmol/L sodium chloride solution,respectively,5 times a day. Mice in blank group were not treated with sodium chloride solution. Schirmer test,fluorescein staining,corneal scoring,rose bengal staining,tear ferns experiment,corneal epithelial HE staining and thickness measurement,conjunctival epithelial PAS staining and Goblet cell counting were conducted on days 0,7,14,28,and 42,respectively. Corneal surface was observed by scanning electron microscopy on day 42. Results No significant difference was found in the above parameters on day 0 between the two groups. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of Shenqi Recipe on the proliferation of glomerular mesangial cells (MC) and interstitial fibroblasts (FC) in rats. METHODS: The effect of serum containing prepared drugs from normal and chronic renal failure rats treated by Shenqi Recipe on glomerular mesangial cells and intersititial fibroblasts in vitro was observed by MTT colorimetric assay and serophrmacology. RESULTS: Compared with the blank sample normal rats, serum containing Shenqi Recipe inhibited the proliferation of MC and FC (P<0.001), and the serum containing Shenqi Recipe of CRF rats had significantly inhibited the proliferation of MC and FC compared with the model group(P<0.001). Conclusion Shenqi Recipe can postpone CRF progress by this mechanism.

Objective To analyze the factors related to glare occurred after the phakic intraocular lens (P-IOL) implantation,and to raise the standard for the P-IOL selection.Design Retrospective case series.Participants 104 patients with high myopia underwent P-IOL implantation in Beijing Tongren Hospital.Methods In 104 cases,22 cases (22 eyes) were implanted angle supported Phakic6 designed accord with corneal symmetry,54 cases (54 eyes) were implanted iris fixed Verisyse,and 28 cases (28 eyes) were implanted posterior chamber PRL.Selection of the diameter of P-IOL optics depended on P-IOL diopters.The pupil diameter,the P-IOL optic center position,the pupil and corneal center position were measured with anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT).The contrast sensitivity (CS) under different condition (day,day and glare,night,night and glare) and in different space frequency (1.5,3,6, 12,18c/d)were examined with Optec6500 system.Main Outcome Measures Glare incidence,CS,and the influence of pupil diameter and P-IOL location to glare.Results None of the 104 P-IOL eyes occurred glare in day time.59 eyes (56.73%) complained of glare in dime condition.The glare incidence was 63.18% (14/22) in Phakic6 eyes,55.56% (30/54) in Verisyse eyes,and 53.27% (15/28) in PRL eyes (P=0.691).CS of all surgical eyes were improved in day time with or without glare luminous environment (P=0.000).And the CS of halo-complaining eyes was lower than of no halo eyes in night time with or without glare luminous environment (P=0.000).Glare oc- curred more frequently in eyes with the pupil diameter larger than P-IOL diameter in clime condition after surgery (10 in Phakic6 eyes, 20 in Verisyse eyes,12 in PRL eyes,all P

Objective To observe the effects of velcade on inflammatory reaction and cell apoptosis after ischemia-reperfusion injury, and to explore the neuroprotective mechanism of velcade.Methods The 15 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into sham-operated group, physiological saline control group and velcade-treated group (n= 5, each). The model of temporary middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) was applied and reperfused after 2 hours. Immediately after the reperfusion, all rats were performed intraperitoneal injection with velcade 0. 2 mg/kg in velcadetreated group, and with the same volume of physiological saline in control group. After 24 hours, the rats were decapitated in all groups. The apoptosis cells were found by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) and the expressions of nuclear factor-κBp65 (NF-κBp65) and interleukinh-1β (IL-1β) were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results The immunologically positive cells of NF-κBp65, IL-1β and apoptosis cells were occasionally found in shamoperated group [(1.21 ± 0. 16)/400 power, (11.56 ± 0. 99)/400 power and (2. 88 ± 0. 27)/400 power], while a lot of immunologically positive cells of NF-κBp65, IL-1β and apoptosis cells were found in velcade-treated group and control group. The control with compared group, these cells were significantly more in the velcade-treated group [(56.28± 1.95)/400 power vs. (29. 76±2.53)/400 power, (47. 64±2.06)/400 power vs. (29.6±1. 61)/400 power and (51. 05±4. 23)/400 power vs.(33.44±2.06)/400 power, all P＜0. 05]. Conclusions The velcade could decrease the expressions of the NF-κBp65 and IL-1β and diminish the neuronal apoptosis. The neuroprotective mechanism of velcade may lie in decreasing apoptosis through inhibiting inflammation.

To the cataract patient after corneal refractive surgery, if the intraocular lens power was determined by conventional formulas, different refractive errors may be produced after intraocular lens implantation.This inaccuracy of the lens power mainly came from 2 aspects-errors of corneal refractive power measurement and errors of formulas.Besides, imprecise of ocular axial length measurement and invalid lens position calculation also contributed to the inaccuracy of lens power.Therefore, in order to reduce refractive errors of cataractous surgery in patient underwent refractive surgery, appropriate method should be used to estimate the refractive power of corneal, and proper formula should be selected to calculate intraocular lens power.

Ebola virus (EBOV) causes hemorrhagic fever, resulting in mortality rates as high as 90% among infected humans and non-human primates (NHPs). The 2014 Ebola epidemic in West Africa is the severest in history, leading to WHO taking all control measures to stop any possibility of cross-border outbreaks. Because no licensed vaccines or effective therapeutics against EBOV are available, the current outbreak management has been limited to palliative care and barrier methods to prevent transmission. Several promising experimental EBOV vaccines have demonstrated protection in NHPs against lethal EBOV challenge, and some progresses have been made through clinical trials of EBOV vaccine candidates. It is believed there will be some licensed vaccine available in the near future to control EBOV outbreaks. In this review we provide some insights for further development of EBOV vaccines.
