2.Analysis of musculoskeletal disorders, work load and working postures among manufacturing workers.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the distribution of the musculoskeletal disorders, work load and working postures in different factories, gender, education levels, age and working years among manufacturing workers.
METHODSIn a cross-sectional study of 5134 manufacturing workers in 12 factories, the morbidities for musculoskeletal disorders in one year period were measured with questionnaires.
RESULTSThe morbidities for musculoskeletal disorders in body sites: waist, neck, shoulder, wrist, ankle/feet, knee, hip/buttocks and elbows were 59.7%, 47.9%, 38.1%, 33.7%, 26.9%, 25.4%, 15.2%, and 14.9%, respectively in one year period. There were significant differences of morbidities for musculoskeletal symptoms in body sites of workers among different factories (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). The morbidities of musculoskeletal symptoms in elbows, waist, wrists and ankle/feet of the workers in refractory material and chemical fiber factories were higher than those in other factories, the morbidities for musculoskeletal symptoms of workers in garments and diamond factories were lower than those in other factories. The morbidities for musculoskeletal symptoms in neck, shoulders and wrists of female workers were significantly higher than those of male workers (P < 0.01). There were significant differences of the morbidities for musculoskeletal symptoms in body sites among workers with different educational levels (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). There were significant differences of the morbidities for musculoskeletal symptoms in neck, shoulders, wrists, hip/buttocks and knee among groups with different age or different working years (P < 0.01), and the morbidities for musculoskeletal symptoms increased with age and working years. The proportions of unhealthy working postures and high working load among workers in refractory material and chemical fiber factories were higher; but those in garments and diamond factories were lower.
CONCLUSIONThe morbidities for musculoskeletal symptoms in waist, neck, shoulder and wrists of workers in manufacturing workers were higher; the gender, education level, age and working years could influenced the morbidities for musculoskeletal disorders.

3.Preliminary report for treatment of discogenic low back pain with combined percutaneous laser and O2-O3 mixture.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the efficacy of percutaneous laser and O2-O3 mixture in treating chronic discogenic low back pain.
METHODSThere were 48 patients included 32 male and 16 female with the mean age of 43.5 years (range, from 21 to 66 years). The duration of symptoms was more than 6 months, all patients were treated with percutaneous laser and O2-O3 mixture under TV monitoring.
RESULTSForty-eight patients followed-up showed no severe complications. At 1 week follow up, 8 cases were evaluated as excellent, 28 as good, 8 as fair and 4 as poor by Macnab standard. The excellent and good rate reached 75%. At 3 months follow up, 17 cases were evaluated as excellent, 23 as good, 6 as fair and 2 as poor with the excellent and good rate of 83.3%. At 6 months follow up, 20 cases were evaluated as excellent, 22 as good, 4 as fair and 2 as poor with a total effective rate of 87.5%. At 12 months follow up, 21 cases were evaluated as excellent, 22 as good, 4 as fair and 1 as poor with a total effective rate of 89.6%.
CONCLUSIONCombined percutaneous laser and O3-O3 mixture is an effective and safe method in treating discogenic low back pain.

4.Relationship between work locus of control and occupational stress in oil workers.

OBJECTIVETo investigate general states of the work locus of control and explore the relationship between work locus of control and occupational stress in oil workers.
METHODS582 oil workers were investigated by using the General Questionnaire and Occupational Stress Measure Inventory.
RESULTSThere were significant differences in WCLS score between two age groups (= 30 years old group and < 30 years old group) (t = 2.093, P = 0.037). Values of interpersonal relationship, person responsibility, promotion, participation, autonomy, task consistency, challenge, job satisfaction, mental health, self-esteem and coping strategies were higher in the group of internal locus of control; values of role ambiguity, working prospect, depression and social support were higher in the group of external locus of control (P < 0.05). Work locus of control had positive relation with role ambiguity, working prospect, depression, and social support, and negative with interpersonal relationship, promotion, participation, task consistency, challenge, job satisfaction, mental health, self-esteem and coping strategies. In the regression analysis, work locus of control was the major predictive factor of work satisfaction.
CONCLUSIONWork locus of control is associated with many occupational stress factors. The group of extrinsic work locus of control experience more stress in oil workers.

5.Comparison of epithelial-mesenchymal transition-related markers between cancer tissue and tumor emboli.

OBJECTIVETo explore whether cancer cells abide by the mechanism of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in the process of invasion and metastasis by comparing histology and protein expression of E-cadherin and vimentin among primary, metastatic carcinomas and their emboli.
METHODSA total of 68 tissue specimens in 59 cases of primary adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma and their lymphatic metastasis were collected, of which there were 13 well differentiated, 11 moderately differentiated, 30 poorly differentiated tumors and 14 lymphatic metastases. The morphology and the expression of E-cadherin and vimentin proteins were assessed by H-E stain and immunohistochemistry.
RESULTSThe overall morphology of the primary cancers and their tumor emboli was similar. Among 54 primary cancers, 50 cases were positive for E-cadherin and 22 cases were positive for vimentin. Fifty-one cases were positive for E-cadherin and 22 cases were positive for vimentin in the tumor emboli, with no statistical difference (P = 0.804, P = 0.842). Among 14 cases of lymphatic metastasis, 12 cases were positive for E-cadherin and 6 cases were positive for vimentin, and the tumor emboli in 12 cases were positive for E-cadherin and 7 cases were positive for vimentin, with statistical difference (P = 0.084, P = 0.878). There were no significant difference of E-cadherin and vimentin protein expression between the cancer tissue and its emboli (P = 0.410, P = 0.824). A subset of tumor cells in cancer emboli expressed E-cadherin at a high level without vimentin expression, whereas other cells in tumor emboli showed an opposite expression pattern.
CONCLUSIONSThere is no significant difference of EMT characteristics among primary cancer, lymphatic metastases and their cancer emboli. Cancer thrombus contains both EMT and non-EMT cells. Further studies are required to elucidate the role of EMT in the processes of tumor invasion and metastasis.

6.Risk factors for invasive pulmonary fungal infection in children.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the risk factors for invasive pulmonary fungal infection (IPFI) and to provide a theoretical basis for the early prevention and treatment of IPFI.
METHODSA retrospective case-control study was conducted on the clinical data of children hospitalized in the pediatric intensive care unit between January 2012 and March 2013. These children consisted of 48 patients with a clinical diagnosis of IPFI (IPFI group) and 106 pneumonia patients without a clinical diagnosis of IPFI (non-IPFI group). The clinical date of the two groups were compared and analyzed. The main risk factors for the development of IPIF were identified by unconditional multivariate logistic regression analysis.
RESULTSCompared with the non-IPIF group, the IPIF group had significantly lower mean age and serum albumin level (P<0.01), significantly longer mean length of hospital stay, duration of antibiotic use, and duration of corticosteroid use (P<0.01), and significantly higher rates of malnutrition, invasive mechanical ventilation, indwelling catheter use, oropharyngeal fungal infection, and diarrhea (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that invasive mechanical ventilation, diarrhea, long duration of corticosteroid use, long duration of antibiotic use, young age, and low serum albumin level were independent risk factors for the development of IPFI.
CONCLUSIONSFor the infants with suspected IPFI for whom pathogenic examination is difficult to perform, IPFI should be considered in cases of invasive mechanical ventilation, diarrhea, long-time uses of broad-spectrum antibiotics and corticosteroids and hypoalbuminemia, and empirical antifungal therapy should be performed as soon as possible.

7.Effect of mechanical stimulation on the expression of E-cadherin/cateninin complex in salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of cyclic biaxial mechanical stimulation on adhesion of salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma(SACC) extracellular matrix (ECM) and expression of E-cadherin/cateninin complex in the SACC high metastasis cell lines ACC-M, SACC low metastasis cells line ACC-2, we observed the functions of mechanical stimulation in the adhesion of SACC cell-ECM and investigate the mechanism in the adhesion of ACC.
METHODSMechanical stimulation were applied to the cells for periods of 1, 3 and 6 hours every day, lasting for 2 days. The amplitude of mechanical stimulation applied to the cells were 1000, 4000 micro strain, at a frequency of 3 Hz. Unstrained cells were used as control. The expression of E-cadherin/cateninin complex on the cell of ACC-M, ACC-2 were studied with laser scanning confocal microscope and image analysis. SACC cell-ECM adhesion was assayed by MTT technique.
RESULTSThe results showed that expressions of alpha, beta, gamma-cateninin on the cell of ACC-2 were obviously higher than that ACC-M and E-cadherin on the cell of ACC-M were obviously higher than that ACC-2 without mechanical stimulation. Mechanical stimulation can change the expression of E-cadherin/cateninin complex on the cell of ACC-2 and ACC-M with time. The results also showed that cell-ECM adhesion on the cell of ACC-2 were obviously higher than that of ACC-M without mechanical stimulation. Mechanical stimulation can change the cell-ECM adhesion of ACC-2 and ACC-M with time.
CONCLUSIONMechanical stimulation can change the adhesion of the SACC cell-ECM and expression of E-cadherin/cateninin complex of the SACC cell. We think it played an important role in metastasis of the cancer.

9.Construction of the DNA vaccine of major outer membrane protein of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and investigation of immune effects after vaccination.

OBJECTIVETo clone PIB gene of Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and to construct a recombinant eukaryotic expression vector pCI-PIB and to understand the effects of pCI-PIB vaccination in mice to induce specific humoral and cellular immune responses.
METHODSThe entire PIB gene of Neisseria gonorrhoeae (960 bp) was amplified by using PCR. An eukaryotic eukaryotic vector pCI-PIB was then constructed. BALB/c mice (n = 65, 100 microg/time/mouse) were immunized with pCI-PIB by intramuscular injection. ABC assay was employed to examine the PIB expression in muscular cells of the pCI-PIB-immunized mice (n = 10). ELISA and MTT assays were used to measure the effects of humoral and cellular immune responses of the remaining pCI-PIB-immunized mice. By using slide agglutination test and complement bacteriolytic test, the serum anti-bacterial activity of the pCI-PIB immunized mice was determined.
RESULTSThe entire PIB gene amplification fragment of the expected size (960 bp) was successfully obtained by PCR. In comparison with the reported PIB gene sequence (GenBank No: AF090801), the homology of nucleotide sequence of the target inserted fragment in the recombinant plasmid pCI-PIB was as high as 99.28%. The muscular cells of the immunized mice could take in pCI-PIB and then express PIB. In the pCI-PIB immunized mice, the higher titer (1:4000) of specific serum IgG and the specific T lymphocyte response were found. The proliferation index (4.031) was significantly higher than that of the controls (1.127) (t = 71.71, P < 0.05). The sera and washings from the pCI-PIB immunized mice could agglutinate Neisseria gonorrhoeae and kill this microbe in presence of complements.
CONCLUSIONIn this study we successfully constructed a recombinant eukaryotic expression vector pCI-PIB. The mice inoculated with pCI-PIB might efficiently produce the specific humoral and cellular immune responses, suggesting that pCI-PIB should be potential service as a candidate of Neisseria gonorrhoeae DNA vaccines.

10.Job satisfaction and its influential factors in oil production workers.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the job satisfaction and its influential factors in oil production workers.
METHODS423 oil production workers were investigated using the Occupational Stress Instrument.
RESULTSThe job satisfaction, job organization satisfaction, job itself satisfaction in the workers aged < 30 years old (45.69 +/- 10.98, 22.63 +/- 6.16, 23.07 +/- 5.39 respectively) were lower than those in workers aged > or = 30 years old (49.34 +/- 10.12, 24.60 +/- 5.40, 24.74 +/- 5.36 respectively) (P < 0.01). The job satisfaction in the groups of different service length was significantly different. The job satisfaction in the workers of service length 5-10 years was the lowest compared with those of service length < 5 years and > 10 years (P < 0.05). The gender, education, marriage did not show obvious influence on the job satisfaction. The relationship between psychological health, work locus of control, coping strategies, affective balance and social support showed a statistical significance difference (P < 0.01). Regression was analyzed by taking job satisfaction as strain and personal characters, occupational stress factors, coping as independent variables. Five variables entered regression equation. They were work locus of control, affective balance, social support, psychological health and coping strategies.
CONCLUSIONThe job satisfaction of oil production workers is affected by multiple factors such as the age, work length and social support.
