Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of transcatheter arterial embolization with detachable balloon for pulmonary arteriovenous fistula(PAVF). Methods: A 48 year old female with PAVF suffered intermittent emoptysis, fatigability, exertional dyspnea, and palpitations. CT and MRI demonstrated 2 PAVF in the module lobe on right side. Pre embolization super selective pulmonary angiography revealed 2 fistulae communicating to the sac of the lesion.Three detachable balloons were used for embolization of the feeding arterial branch. The diameter of detachable balloons was twice as that of the feeding arterial branch. The study of blood gases showed the arterial oxygen pressure was 6.5 kPa before operation, hemoglobin at 158 g/L. Results: No complications were apparent in our case. Two PAVF were completely occuluded by the embolization of a feeding branch. One month later, the arterial oxygen pressure increased to normal values, hemoglobin at 125 g/L and clinical symptoms disappeared. On postcontrast CT, the fistulas treated by the embolization of a feeding arterial branch were not enhanced. No symptoms and signs were found in follow up for 16 months. Conclusion: The percutaneous transcatheter embolization with detachable balloon is effective for PAVF. [

Objective To evaluate the method of low-intensity anticoagulation therapy in the pregnant women who had received mechanical heart valve replacemant, and the effects of warfarin on the pregnant women and their fetus. Methods This retrospective study involved 56 pregnant women( 61 pregnancies)who had received mechanical heart valve replacement.Their pregnant status, delivery, and anticoagulation therapy were observed and followed-up between May 1986 and November 2009 at West China Hospital of Sichuan University. Results All patients took oral anticoagulant (warfarin) throughout pregnancy. The dose of domestic warfarin was ( 3.02 ± 0.85 ) mg/d ( in 42 cases), and the dose of imported warfarin was (2.84 ± 0.57 )mg/d (in 14 cases). The mean INR value of 401 samples from patients was 1.67 ±0.58. No thromboembolism or major hemorrhagic complications occurred. Minor bleeding occurred in 11 pregnancies. Forty-seven patients had term delivery, 7 had premature birth, 6 had spontaneous abortion, and 1 had intrauterine fetal death. Six newborns were born with low birth weight (2.3 ± 0. 5 ) kg, and no abnormal fetus was observed. Conclusion The low-intensity anticoagulation therapy with warfarin (at a dose of less than 5 mg/d) and a INR target of 1.5 to 2.0 was safe and convenient for the pregnant women, who had received mechanical heart valve replacement. The abnormalities rate of fetus was low.

BACKGROUND: By targeting inducing differentiation in vitro, mesenchymal.stem cells(MSCs) transform into osteoblasts, lipocytes, chondrocytes, muscular cells, neuronal cells, etc. Whether Chinese herbs act on induced differentiation of MSCs in rats or not?OBJECTIVE: To study the amplification of MSCs cultured in vitro in SD rats and efficacy of Chinese herbs on targeting inducing differentiation of neuron-like cells.DESIGN: Exploring study with repeated observation and measurement based on cells.SETTING: Department of pathophysiology in a medical college.MATERIALS: Experimental marrow collected from SD male tested-healthy rats.METHODS: By adhesion method,MSCs in rats were isolated for amplifying culture in vitro. Flow-type cell instrument was applied for the determination of its surface antigen expression. Various Chinese herbal components were used for the targeting inducing differentiation of MSCs into neuron-like cells. The cellular morphology was observed under optical microscope. and the specific antigen label of neuronal cells was determined with immunocyto-chemical method.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:①Results of MSCs isolation and amplification;②Results of identification of MSCs surface antigen and neuon-like cells.RESULTS: By adhesion method,MSCs in rats were isolated successfully and amplified in a large amount in vitro. It was indicated in the results determined by flow-type cell instrument that CD14,CD1 1α,CD34,CD38,CD45,CD80 and CD86 presented negative, and CD29,CD44,CD90,CD105 and CD166 presented positive. By induced with various kinds of Chinese herbs, like huangqi(Radix Astragali seu Hedysari),tianma(Rhizoma Gastrodiae),renshen (Radix Ginseng),danggui(Radix Angelicae Sinensis),naoxinshu, renshen fengwangjian for 1 to 3 hours, most MSCs transformed into neuron-like cells, presenting soma and neurite. With immunocyto-chemical staining,neuron-specific enolase(NSE) and nestin displayed positive and glial fibrillary acidic protein negative.CONCLUSION: MSCs in SD rats have the potential of multi-targeting differentiation, presenting a strong capacity of amplification and self-replacement. In a suitable inducing condition,MSCs may differentiate into neuron-like cells.

Aurora-B as an important kinase to adjust the cell normal mitosis is a potent target for cancer treatment. Aurora-B is overexpressed in a broad range of tumor and tumor cells are more sensitive while Aurora-B is inhibited. Due to the key role of the Aurora-B in cell mitosis, the development of its inhibitors is becoming more and more important. Several small molecules inhibit with a similar efficacy both Aurora-A and Aurora-B, however, in most cases the effects resemble Aurora-B disruption by genetic methods, indicating that Aurora-B represents an effective therapeutic target. There were several Aurora-B kinase inhibitors which had entered the clinics and displayed good antitumor activity. In this review, we will outline the functions of Aurora kinase B in normal cell division and in malignancy. We will focus on recent preclinical and clinical studies that have explored the mechanism of action and clinical effect of Aurora-B inhibitors in cancer treatment.
