1.Molecular biological markers on diagnosis of early gastric cancer
Chinese Journal of Disease Control & Prevention 2001;5(2):139-141
Gastric cancer(GC) is deeply threatening the health of our people, the mortality rate of GC is the second death cause of carcinoma i n our country. Since the lack of special clinical symptom at the early state of GC, detecting GC at the molecular biological level is expected to diagnose early gastric cancer. This article discusses some markers such as PCNA, p53, telomera se, ras protein and so on to assess the possibility of diagnosing the early gas tric cancer with these molecular biological markers. According to analyzing rela ted papers published, PCNA and p53 were found to be the molecular biological mar kers which should be firstly taken into account in diagnosing gastric cancer. Bo th of them can be easily detected by using immunohistochemical method. Telomeras e is also a good marker, but because of its difficult technology and high cost, it is not so practicable as the former two as the diagnostic marker of early gas tric cancer. Besides, ras potein can also be taken into account as the early det ecting auxiliary marker for GC.

BACKGROUND: Studies regarding synthesizing composite bone repair materials with organic macromolecules as mineralizers template are the hot research spot. However, reports concerning using agar as bone repair materials are few. OBJECTIVE: To synthesize a novel agar-hydroxyapatite composite material, and to evaluate its physical and chemical properties as well as cytocompatibility.METHODS: ①A certain amount of the non-nano-hydroxyapatite in hydrochloric acid solution was added into a certain amount of agar sol, and the reaction system was adjusted with PH value of 7-8. And then the precipitate was lyophilized to obtain the composite of agar-hydroxyapatite.②The third generation of rat bone marrow stromal cell (BMSC) was co-cultured with agar-hydroxyapatite. And the growth of cells was observed at days 1, 3 and 5 after culture. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The results of X-ray diffraction patterns, Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), thermal analyzer, transmission electron microscope, and scanning electron microscope showed that agar could manipulate the growth of hydroxyapatite, and hydroxyapatite nanocrystals was equably formed on the agar-fibers with high porosity. The BMSC grew well in the composite and form a clear cytoskeletal at days 3 and 5 after culture. The results reveal that agar-hydroxyapatite composite has good physical and chemical properties and cytocompatibility.

ObjectiveTo investigate the expression of paired immunoglobulin-like receptor B (PirB) in optic nerve, visual cortex, cerebella, spinal cord and sciatic nerve of normal adult mice.MethodsTwelve healthy adult BALB/c mice were randomly and equally divided into two groups. The immunohistochemistry and Western blot were used to detect the expression of PirB in the tissues described above respectively.ResultsBoth the immunohistochemistry and Western blot test revealed that the expression of PirB was positive in the optic nerve, visual cortex, cerebella and spinal cord, but negative in the sciatic nerve. The positive signals in the sections were located in the cell bodies and the neurites were observed in some of them.Western blot showed the apparent positive band of PirB in the optic nerve, visual cortex, cerebella and spinal cord rather than in the sciatic nerve. The protein expression level of PirB was relatively high in the visual cortex (P <0.05) but relatively low in the optic nerves (P <0.01).ConclusionThe PirB expresses positively in the optic nerve, indicating that PirB protein may closely correlate with the poor regeneration of the optic nerve.

Objective To evaluate the influence of the alendronate treatment in early-stage adult nontraumatic avascular necrosis of femoral head. Methods The 83 patients with nontraumatic avascular necrosis of femoral head were enrolled in this study. They were given oral alendronate 70 mg weekly, and evaluated with Harris criteria before and after treatment. Results In the patients with ARCO Ⅰ necrosis, the scores of pain and function were higher after treatment than before [(41.45±3.55) scores vs. (38. 48± 5.55) scores, t = 3. 70, P = 0. 001; (45.06 ± 1.50) scores vs. (43.97 ±2.31) scores, t= 3.76, P= 0. 001]. In the patients with ARCO Ⅱ necrosis, the scores of pain, function and activity were also higher after treatment than before [(40. 40±4.31 ) scores vs. (37.32±6. 65) scores, t=4.06, P=0.00; (42.90±2.70) scores vs. (41.66±3.35) scores, t=3.15, P=0.003; (4.76±0.47) scores vs. (4.42±0.70) scores, t=3.35, P=0.002]. Conclusions Alendronate is effective in treatment of early-stage adult nontraumatic avascular necrosis of femoral head, in particular for ARCO Ⅱ patients. But its long-term effect is worth researching in future.

The result of medical licensing examination is an objective reflection of the quality of medical education. The average scores and pass rates of medical licensing examination of the military medical university including The Third Military Medical University, were under the national average levels, which made us find the problems, therefore, reflection on curriculum structure, teaching method, administration mode and continuing education should be integrated to the requirement of the medical licensing examination, so as to let the students meet the complex demand of the society, as well as the special requirement of military service.
