College of Stomatology of Wuhan University was the first dental school who introduced the Kavo head-simulator for clinical teaching.In this study,students of stomatology were investigated before and after head-simulator training and questionares were made.The results have showed that head-simulator teaching system not only raises the activity of student,consolidates the basic knowledge,develops the clinical thinking ability,but also increases the ability of clinical operational skill before clinical training.
5.The Toxic Effects of the Extracellular Active Components from One Algae-lysing Bacteria on Chlorella Pyrenoidosa

Toxic effects of L7 lyophilized powder of extracellular active components (L7-LPEAC), extracted from the Algae-lysing bacteria L7, on Chlorella pyrenoidosa were studied according to the changes of effective photosynthesis rate (EPR), the protein content, the chlorophyll a content and the MDA content of algae. The results showed that the growth of alga was promoted at low concentrations of L7-LPEAC (0.80 g/L, 1.25 g/L). The 96 h-EC50 and 120 h-EC50 upon Chlorella pyrenoidosa are 5.75 g/L and 2.55 g/L, respec tively. The chlorophyll a content increased firstly and then decreased at high concentrations of L7-LPEAC (≥2 g/L), so did the protein content. 6.A cross-sectional study of myopia among students from middle and high schools in Shantou, China

AIM: To investigate the status of myopia in students from different kinds of schools in Shantou city, China.
METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 2 418 students from 4 middle and high schools in Shantou were surveyed through randomized cluster sampling. Ophthalmic examination and auto-refraction were performed for all subjects.
RESULTS: Among all 2 394 students examined. The myopia rates for students from middle and high school were 48. 07% and 68. 28%. In normal middle school, students from rural area had lower rate of myopia than students from the urban area (χ2 = 13. 879, P<0. 01 ). Students from key rural high schools had lower rate of myopia than students from key urban high school (χ2 =175. 231, P<0. 01).
CONCLUSION:The prevalence of myopia in the middle school of urban area in Shantou was higher than rural area. The increasing rate of myopia in youngsters is correlated with study stress. In order to decrease the myopia rate, it is extremely important to improve study environment in students.
7.Culture of rat pulmonary capillary pericytes

Objective To establish a method for culture of rat pulmonary capillary pericytes.Methods Six male Sprague-Dawley rats,aged 6-7 weeks,weighing 200-220 g,were anesthetized and the chest was opened.The pulmonary capillary was isolated by type Ⅰ collagenase digestion and micropore filtration and cultured in highglucose DMEM/F12 1∶1 containing 10% fetal bovine serum and 0.5% mixture of penicillin and streptomycin.The morphology and growth of cells were observed with inverted phase contrast microscope.The positive cells of αsmooth muscle actin (α-SMA),desmin,neuron-glial antigen 2 (NG2),cluster of differentiation 31 (CD31) were counted by immunofluorescence.The percentage of positive cells was calculated.Results The microscopic examination showed cells of shuttle shape or star shape,mononuclear cells,binuclear cells occasionally,oval nucleus,rich cell plasma,growth in the shape of vortex or fence,and no contact inhibition.The percentage of positive cells ofα-SMA,desmin,NG2,and CD31 was (99.0± 1.2)%,(96.0±2.1)%,(99.0±0.7)% and0,respectively.Conclusion The culture method for rat pulmonary capillary pericytes is successfully established.
8.Expression of CD_64 in Neonatal Infection Disease and Its Clinical Significance

Objective To study CD64 expression in neutrophilic granulocyte and its clinical effect in neonatal infection disease. Methods CD64 was detected among 59 neonatal patients(septicemia group 34 patients, local infection group 25 patients)hospitalized in our neonatal department diagnosed as neonatal infection disease in 48 h after hospitalized,2 weeks after therapy, then the results were compared with 27 patients as non - infection disease during the same period. Results CD64 in septicemia group was (6156. 21?3643. 32) molecula per cell,in local infection group was (2176.19 ? 946. 32)molecula per cell, in non- infection group was (2176. 19 ? 946. 32) molecula per cell.There were significant differences among three groups (all P0.05). Conclusions CD64 expression increases in bacterium infection disease. It is more obvious in widespread infection desease.and it can be the mark in early diagnosis of neonatal infection disease.
9.Expression of MAGE, GAGE, and BAGE genes in human hepatocellular carcinoma.

OBJECTIVETo observe the expression of MAGE, GAGE and BAGE genes in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell lines.
METHODSThe expression levels of MAGE-1, MAGE-3, GAGE1-8, GAGE1-2 and BAGE mRNAs in HCC cell lines SMMC-7721, QQY-7701, BEL-7402 were studied by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and were compared with those in biopsied liver tissues.
RESULTSMAGE-1 and BAGE mRNAs were expressed in SMMC-7721 cells. MAGE-3 and BAGE mRNAs were expressed in QQY-7701 cells. MAGE-1 and GAGE1-2 mRNAs were expressed in BEL-7402 cells. None of these genes was expressed in biopsied liver tissues.
CONCLUSIONSMAGE-1, MAGE-3, GAGE1-8, GAGE1-2 and BAGE are expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines. These tumor-specific antigens can be used as molecular markers for early diagnosis and possible targets for immunotherapy of human HCC.

10.Analysis of effects of arthroscopic treatment for recurrent patellar dislocation by lateral patellar retinacular release outside the synovial bursa of knee joint combined with reconstruction of medial patellofemoral ligament.

OBJECTIVETo introduce an arthroscopic technique in managing recurrent dislocation of the patella and its clinical results.
METHODSSixteen patients with recurrent patellar dislocation were reviewed, including 3 males and 13 females. The average age was 17.6 years old (ranged from 14 to 32 years). The patients suffering from patellar sub-luxation averaged 18.5 months (ranged from 6 to 23 months)before operation. These patients were treated with lateral patellar retinacular release outside the synovial bursa of knee joint and medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction using the semitendinosus tendon free autograft. The Lyshohm scores before and after operation were used to evaluate outcomes at the final follow-up.
RESULTSAll the patients were followed up, and the duration ranged from 6 to 48 months, with an average of 12 months. There was no recurrence. The Q angle decreased from (16.4 ± 3.7)° to (10.1 ± 1.4)°; insall index decreased from 1.37 ± 0.25 to 1.28 ± 0.23; congruence angle decreased from (21.3 ± 2.6)° to (5.86 ± 2.23)°; Lysholm score improved from 76.1 ± 5.2 to 89.8 ± 4.1 at 6 months after operation.
CONCLUSIONCompared with conventional procedure, arthroscopic surgery for recurrent dislocation of the patella achieves excellent outcomes with minimum invasion.
