Objective To investigate the incidence of and risk factors for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in transplant recipients.Methods 197 males aged 50 years and older who received kidney transplants were recruited if they were clinically stable.They were divided into three age groups:50 to 59 years (87 cases),60 to 69 years (64 cases) and ≥ 70 years (46 cases).Two hundred and forty people who had not undergone kidney transplant were randomly selected from the community as controls.A cross-sectional study was performed to study the BPH incidence in kidney transplant recipients according to standard diagnostic criteria.At the same time,the expression levels of keratinocyte growth factor,transforming growth factor-β and serum testosterone and the CD4/CD8 ratio in T lymphocytes were determined.Results There was no significant difference in age,PSA and the postmicturition residual volume between the study group and the control group.The total BPH incidence in kidney transplant recipients was 16.2％ (32/197).The symptomatic BPH incidence was 6.9％ (6/87) in the 50-to 59-year-old study group and 20.2％ (19/94) in the control group,representing a significant statistical difference in the symptomatic BPH incidence between the two groups (P =0.010).The symptomatic BPH incidence was 18.8％ (12/64) in the 60-to 69-year-old study group and 41.9％ (34/81) in the control group,indicating a significant statistical difference in the symptomatic BPH incidence between the two groups (P =0.004).The symptomatic BPH incidence was 30.4％ (14/46) in the ≥ 70-year-old study group and 52.3％ (34/65) in the control group,indicating a significant statistical difference in the symptomatic BPH incidence between the two groups (P =0.032).Compared to the control group,the peripheral blood serum testosterone level (9.4 ± 4.7,18.2 ± 5.6,P =0.040) and the CD4/CD8 ratio (1.1±0.3,1.8±0.3,P=0.014) of kidney transplant recipients was lower.The transforming growth factor-β expression level (5015± 1087,1829±963,P＜0.001) was higher in kidney transplant recipients than in the control group.The kasatinocyte growth factor expression levels (35.8±20.7,21.0± 18.3,P =0.064) was not statistically different than in the control group.Conclusions Kidney transplant recipients who had long-term administration of calcineurin inhibitor might have a low benign prostatic hyperplasia incidence,which might be related to transforming growth factor-β and keratinocyte growth factor expression,testosterone levels and the lymphocyte infiltration.Further high-quality prospective studies are still needed to confirm the conclusions.

OBJECTIVETo search for an optimum method for testicular prothesis implantation in the treatment of testis loss.

METHODSWe retrospectively analyzed the surgical methods and outcomes of 53 cases of terminal prostate cancer and 4 cases of unilateral testicular torsion treated by implantation of testicular prothesis with the polypropylene mesh.

RESULTSThe 57 male patients all received testicular prothesis with the polypropylene mesh. All the patients were satisfied with the appearance and size of the scrotum after surgery. No scrotal hematoma, prosthesis infection, or autoimmune disease occurred postoperatively.

CONCLUSIONTestis loss is not a rare condition clinically, for the treatment of which surgical implantation of testicular prothesis with the polypropylene mesh can achieve both a fine tissue compatibility and a desirable scrotal appearance.

Objective To evaluate the effects of gender and age on median-effective target plasma concentration(EC50)of propofol administered by target controlled infusion(TCI)causing respiratory depression.Methods Eighty ASA Ⅰ or Ⅱ patients aged 40-79 yr,with body mass index 18-25 kg/m2.undergoing general anesthesia were divided into 4 groups(n=20 each):1 middle-aged male group(MA);Ⅱ middle-aged female group(FA);Ⅲold male group(MO) and Ⅳo ld female group(FO).No premedication was administered.Propofol Was administered by TCI for 15 min,using TCI system incorporating Marsh pharmacokinetic model.EC50 Was determined by up-end-down sequential trial.The target plasma concentration(Cr)was set at 3.1μg/ml in the first Patient in each group.Each time Cr increased/decreased by 10%in the next patient depending on whether or not the respiratory depression occurred.Respiratory depression was defined as RR<8 bpm,Vr≤5 ml/kg,end-tidal PCO2≥50 mm Hg,SaO2≤94%and/or apnea≥15s.Results The EC50 and 95%confidence interval of propofol TCI causing respiratory depression were 6.40(6.09-6.72)μg/ml in group MA,5.93(5.54-6.34)μg/ml group FA,4.58(4.32-4.91)μg/ml in group MO and 4.37(4.14-4.61)μg/ml in group FO.EC50 was significantly lower in group FO than in group FA and in group MO than in group MA,but there Was no significant difference in EC50 between group MA and group FA or between group MO and FO. Conclusion The potency of propofol given by TCI causing respiratory depression is increased in the old patients as compared with the middle-aged patients and is not related to sex.

ObjectiveTo evaluate magnesium sulfate and compound polyethylene glycol electrolyte in bowel preparation before capsule endoscopy.MethodsA total of 81 patients were randomly divided into two groups.Group A (n =41 ) received compound polyethylene glycol electrolyte,and group B (n =40) received magnesium sulfate combined with compound polyethylene glycol electrolyte. Positive detection rate,intestinal preparation score,the incidence of capsule retention and solution quality,liver and kidney function were compared between those two groups.ResultsThe positive detection rates of capsule endoscopy were 65.9％ (27/41) in group A and 62.5％ (25/40) in group B,which were nonsignificantly different (x2 =0.099,P ＞ 0.05).The intestinal preparation scores of 19 patients in group A were ≤4 and those of 22 patients were ≥6,while those of 28 patients in group B were ≤4 and of 12 patients were ≥6,which were significantly different (x2 =4.653,P ＜ 0.05). The rates of capsule retention of group A and B were 2.4％( 1/41 ) and 5.0％ (2/40) respectively,which were not significantly different (x2 =0.372,P ＞ 0.05 ).Obvious abdominal pain,nausea or vomitting occurred in no patients of the two groups.There was no difference in electrolyte level or liver and kidney function between those two groups (P ＞ 0.05 ).ConclusionMagnesium sulfate combined with compound polyethylene glycol electrolyte is applicable for the bowel preparation before capsule endoscopy.

Objective To explore what kind of role serum interleukin 6 (IL-6) and interleukin 18 ( IL-18) play in the relationship between type D personality and acute coronary syndrom (ACS)prognosis.Methods Serum levels of IL-6,IL-18 in all 214 ACS patients were measured with ELISA.According to the scores of type D personality scale(DS14) ,the subjects were divided into the group with type D personality (50 cases)and the one without type D personality ( 164 cases).The serum IL-6 and IL-18 level between the two groups were detected and analyzed.Results There were 23.36% ACS patients with type D personality.The serum IL-6, IL-18levels of the group with type D in ACS acute stage and ACS recovery stage were (2.340 ± 0.081 )OD, (2.016 ±0.023 ) OD and ( 1.460 ± 0.070 ) OD, ( 1.313 ± 0.012 ) OD respectively, significantly higher than those of the group without type D (2.178 ± 0.180)OD, ( 1.849 ± 0.159)OD and ( 1.387 ± 0.091 )OD, ( 1.196 ± 0.132 ) OD respectively(P＜0.01).Conclusion At home and abroad ,there are similar amount of ACS patients with type D personality.The high serum IL-6 and IL-18 levels may play an important role in pathogenesis of relationship between type D personality and ACS poor prognosis.

Objective To evaluate the value of diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI)on differential diagnosis of intracranial cystic lesions.Methods Seventy-six patients with surgically and pathologically confirmed intracranial cystic lesions undergone conventional MRI,DWI and contrast enhanced MRI examination.The signal characteristics of intracrania]cystic lesions on DWI were analysed retrospectively, the apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)values of cystic areas were measured quantitatively.Results Nineteen brain abscesses showed hyperintense signal on DWI.Among 34 brain tumors,3 brain gliomas were hyperintense signal,1 brain glioma was isointense signal and 1 metastasis was hyperintense signal;the other 29 brain tumors showed hypointense signal on DWI.The ADC values of all lesions were:(0.62?0.15)? 10~(-3)mm~2/s in brain abscesses,(2.39?0.78)?10~(-3)mm~2/s in brain gliomas,(2.68?0.40)? 10~(-3)mm~2/s in brain hemangioblastomas,(2.79?0.79)?10~(-3)mm~2/s in brain metastases,respectively. There were significant differences between the ADC values of brain abscess and the cystic or necrotic portions of brain glioma,hemangioblastoma,metastasis(P0.05). Seven intracranial arachnoid cysts showed hypointense signal and 16 epidermoid cysts strikingly hyperintense signal on DWI.The ADC values of arachnoid cysts and epidermoid cysts were(2.96?0.36)?10~(-3)mm~2/s and(0.94?0.13)?10~(-3)mm~2/s respectively.There was significant difference between the ADC values of arachnoid cysts and epidermoid cysts(P

Background and Objective Keshan disease is clinically characterized as a dilated eardiomyopathy. We analyze the prevalence trend during last decade of hypertension and Keshan-disease in Yangzhuang village which was a Keshan-disease epidemic area.Method The survey including medical history,blood pressure and ECG were carried out every two years during the follow up 13 years.Results During follow up period,the total detection rate(hypertension:13.4 % vs Keshan-disease:10.7 %,?~2=8.555,P=0.002)and the accumulative rate of hypertension were higher than those of Keshan-disease,which was on the contrary to that before 1993,when increasing rate of Keshan-disease was higher than hypertension.Furthermore,the accumulative increasing rate of hypertension was 240.0%,which was higher than the national average level during corresponding period with no significant differences between female and male.Conclusion The detection rate of hypertension in Keshan disease epidemic area was higher than the average rate nation-wide.Whether the hypertension prevalence was re- lated to Keshan-disease needs further investigation.

Objective To investigate PSP on bone microstructures,Ca,P,OPG and RANKL of osteoporotic rat model.Methods Thirty female rats randomly divided into five groups:Sham,OVX,H-,M-,L-PSP.Sham and OVX were irrigated stomachsaline;PSP solution was gavaged to other groups.After 8-week,bone microstructures of tibial metaphyseal,Ca,P,OPG and RANKL were measured.Results Body weight,Ca,P,RANKL,Tb.Sp of OVX were significantly increased compared to Sham,OPG,BV/TV,Tb.Th,Tb.N decreased.Body weight of H-,M-PSP,Ca and Tb.Sp of PSP,P and RANKL in H-PSP were decreased compared to OVX,OPG in H-,M-PSP,BV/TV,Tb.Th,Tb.N of PSP group increased.The differences were statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion PSP prevents osteoporosis by improving the microstructure of trabecular bone,reducing bone turnover,increasing OPG and reducing RANKL expression.

OBJECTIVETo compare the tissue formation and the content of polysaccharide between the wild Dendrobium candidum and the cultured ones and to find any existed differences.

METHODBare-handed microtomy and photomicrography; The content of polysaccharide is determined by phenol-sulphuric acid method.

RESULT AND CONCLUSIONThere are no marked noticeable differences between the wild D. candidum and the cultured ones in terms of the tissure formation and the content of polysaccharide.

OBJECTIVETo study the change of paeonol and paeoniflorin, the two major active ingredients contained in Cortex Moutan cultivated in Dianjiang county of Chongqing, due to the change of some influence factors, and explore suitable plant conditions and quality cotrol methods of Cortex Moutan.

METHODPaeonol and paeoniflorin were determined by HPLC in samples from Dianjiang.

RESULT AND CONCLUSIONThe ratio of paeonol and paeoniflorin in Cortex Moutan was regularly influenced by altitude, the growth years and harvest time. Cortex could be cultivated at altitude of 400 m to 800 m but 600 m is the best aria because of the peak of the percentage composition of paeonol and paeoniflorin at 600 m. The first and middle third of October in the fifth year is the best picking time of Cortex Moutan because of the maximum of the percentage composition of paeonol and paeoniflorin.
