Magnetic induction method aims at the noninvasive detection of liver iron overload by measuring the hepatic magnetic susceptibility. To solve the difficulty that eddy current effects interfere with the measurement of magnetic susceptibility, we proposed an improved coil system based on the static field magnetization principle in this study. We used a direct current excitation to eliminate the eddy current effect, and a rotary receiver coil to get the induced voltage. The magnetic field for a cylindrical object due to the magnetization effect was calculated and the relative change of maximum induced voltage was derived. The correlation between magnetic susceptibility of object and maximum magnetic flux, maximum induced voltage and relative change of maximum induced voltage of the receiver coil were obtained by simulation experiments, and the results were compared with those of the theory calculation. The contrast shows that the simulation results fit the theory results well, which proves our method can eliminate the eddy current effect effectively.

Chinese Journal of Cerebrovascular Diseases 2017;14(2):94-97,113
Objective To investigate the key technical points of microvascular decompression (MVD)for the treatment of primary glossopharyngeal neuralgia (GPN)and its efficacy. Methods From July 2011 to October 2016,18 consecutive patients with primary GPN treated with MVD at the Department of Neurosurgery,Xuanwu Hospital,Capital Medical University were enrolled retrospectively. All patients received magnetic resonance angiography (MRA)examination before procedure. The anatomical relationship between glossopharyngeal nerve / vagus nerve and peripheral blood vessels were identified. Seventeen of them were treated via suboccipital retrosigmoid approach, one were treated via far lateral approach. None of the patients were treated with nerve root rhizotomy. Results Eighteen patients had paroxysmal severe pain in tongue, pharynx, tonsil or deep ear canal and other parts before procedure. Preoperative MRA indicated and confirmed in the surgery that the offending vessels were the trunks or their branches of the posterior inferior cerebellar artery in this group of patients. During the operation, the offending vessels were removed from the out brainstem areas of the glossopharyngeal nerves and vagus nerves under the direct vision in order to ensure that the blood vessels and nerves no longer contacted with each other. There were no complications, such as disability and death, cerebrospinal fluid leakage, and intracranial infection. All the patients were followed up after procedure;the mean follow-up period was 1-62 months. The symptom of pain disappeared completely in 17 of them. The Numberical Rating Scale (NRS)score for pain were 0. The pain in one patient was not relieved. The NRS score was 8 at discharge;it was the same as before procedure. Three patients had mild hoarseness, throat discomfort after procedure. They were relieved gradually in the follow-up period. Conclusion MVD is a safe and effective method for the treatment of GPN. Posterior inferior cerebellar artery is the most common offending artery. Preoperative imaging examination and clear decompression during the procedure are very important. The cutting off of glossopharyngeal nerves and vagus nerves needs to be handled with care.

Objective To discuss the feasibility and accuracy of dual-source CT ( DSCT) in the evaluation of aortic stenosis ( AS) with transthoracic echocardiography ( TTE) as reference. Methods A total of 53 patients who underwent both DSCT and TTE were prospectively evaluated. All of them were assessed by TTE for aortic stenosis.Maximum aortic valve area ( AVA) in systolic phase was measured with DSCT , and was compared to that index obtained from the continuity equation on TTE.The severity of AS was graded as mild , moderate , or severe according to the AVA.Linear regression analysis and Bland-Altman plots were used to compare the AVA measured by using CT and TTE.Agreement on semi-quantitative grades of AS severity between the two methods was tested by using Kappa statistics. Results The mean AVA using DSCT was (1.45 ±0.35 ) cm2 compared to the mean AVA of ( 1.33 ±0.36 ) cm2 using TTE, with a significant correlation between them (r=0.92,P<0.01).Bland-Altman analysis demonstrated good inter-modality consistency between DSCT and TTE.However , DSCT demonstrated a slight overestimation of the AVA compared to TTE.As identified by TTE, there were 53 patients with AS, 13 with mild AS, 21 with moderate AS , and 19 with severe AS.In 3 patients DSCT showed no AS , TTE detected mild AS.In 6 cases, TTE had graded the stenosis as moderate , but the stenosis degree was graded as mild using DSCT.Kappa analysis showed a good agreement between the two methods on semi -quantitative grades of aortic stenosis severity (Kappa=0.75,P<0.01).Conclusion AVA measurements using DSCT is feasible and reasonably accurate for those patients with moderate to severe aortic stenosis.

Objective To investigate the effect of neuropeptide Y (NPY) on the osteoblastic differentiation of murine MC3T3-E1 cells and its mechanism related to the Wnt signaling pathway. Methods The murine MC3T3-E1 cells were divided into 4 groups according to the stimulators added:phosphate buffered saline (PBS) (control) and different concentrations of NPY (10-8 mol/L,10-10 mol/L and 10-12 mol/L).The cellular proliferation was detected with MTT assay after 1,3,5,7 and 9 days. The cells were identified with cell immunochemistry and Western Blot to find out the most effective concentration of NPY at different time points under osteoblastic condition. The cells were then divided into 4 groups:PBS,NPY,NPY + NPY receptor antagonist, and NPY + DKK1.Western blot was used to determine the expression of β3-catenin and p-GSK-3β in each group.Nuclear signaling activity of β3-catenin was observed using immunofluorescence staining. Results NPY significantly improved the proliferation of MC3T3-E1 cells at 7 and 9 days (P <0.05).NPY (10s mol/L and 10-10 mol/L) groups and NPY (10-10 mol/L and 10-12 mol/L) groups significantly improved the ALP activity at 4 and 14 days respectively (P < 0.05).At 4 days, the expression of ALP protein was significantly decreased in the NPY + DKK1 group and the NPY + NPY receptor antagonist group compared with that in the NPY group (P < 0.05).Although the expression levels of [β-catenin and p-GSK-3β protein were uninfluenced in either case,NPY significantly stimulated the nuclear signaling activity of β3-catenin.Conclusions NPY may significantly increase the expression of ALP protein in MC3T3-E1 ceils during osteoblastic differentiation. This effect might be mediated through the canonical Wnt signaling pathway.
