Sixty barrows (Duroc × Labdrace × Yorkshine) were randomly assigned to two groups by weight of 33 kg,each of which was replicated three times with ten pigs. Half of the pigs were fed with diets containing 10 mg/kg lead and 0.5% particulate montmorillonite, the other half pigs were fed only with diets supplemented 10 mg/kg lead as control groups for 100 days. The results showed that the addition of particulate montmorillonite to the diet significantly decreased lead concentration in tissues such as blood, brain, liver, bone, kidney and hair and enhanced the erythropoiesis as measured by increasing numbers of RBC,hemoglobin and hematocrit values ,and elevated ALA-D activity in liver. The damage of lead to the liver was evident in the increases in hepatic concentration of malondialdehyde (+ 17.08% );decreases in the antioxidant enzymes catalase(-85.73 % ),superoxide dismutase ( - 52.17% ) and glutathione peroxidase ( - 47.56% ). Concomitant use of particulate montmorillonite in the diets completely ameliorated the lead-induced oxidative damage. It indicated that particulate montmorillonite is possessed of the potential therapeutic activity against lead poison.

Orthopedic Journal of China 2006;0(07):-
[Objective]To investigate the role of CT measurement of distal femur rotational angle in total knee arthroplasty. [Methods]From April 1998 to April 2005,eighty-four patients(106 knees)underwent total knee arthroplasty(TKA),including 48 rheumatoid arthritis(RA)knees, and 67 osteoarthritis(OA) knees and one case of pigmented villonodullar synovitis. All the patients in the study were measured by computed tomographic scanning (CT). The examination was positioned in supination,or neutral position of the lower limbs. The distal femur was micro-scanned by 3 mm width. On the screen one line was made between the two hypocondyles of the femur, and another line was made between the medial epicondyle fossa and the external epicondyl fossa of the femur. The angles of the two lines were measured. The bone resection of femur antero-posterior condyle was performed according to the preoperatively measured angles.Six months after operation, the range-of-motion of knee was examined. A control group(49 knees in 40 patients) to the conventional TKA of the 3 degree external rotation bone resection was comparatively studied. All the operations were made by the same surgeon, and all the prostheseswere the type of PFC ( Press Fit Condyle).[Results]The results indicated that the rotational angles of the distal femur were above 3 degrees in north Chinece population with the male of 5.1 degrees (SD 1.7) and female of 5.8 degrees(SD1.5).[Conclusion]The rotational angler of the distal femur are above 3 degrees in north Chinece population. If the bone resection of femur was performed according to the preoperatively measured angles, the postoperative result is more favourable than the conventional bone resection according to the 3 degree external rotation.

Objective To explore the selection of prostheses for the elderly patients with severe displaced fracture of the femoral neck through retrospective comparison of the long term clinical results between bipolar hemiarthroplasty and total hip replacement. Methods From January 1986 to December 2002, 101 cases of Garden Ⅲand Ⅳtypes of the femoral neck fracture were treated with either bipolar hemiarthroplasty (Group A: 55 cases) or total hip replacement (Group B: 46 cases). The age of the patients at the time of operation ranged from 55 to 94 years old (mean: 70.4 years old) in Group A, and from 57 to 75 years old (mean 69.5 years old) in Group B. The average period of follow up was 4.9 years (1 to 10 years) in Group A and 3.5 years (1.5 to 5 years) in Group B. The clinical results were evaluated according to Harris and Merle d'Aubigue criteria. The perioperative complications were compared. Results The excellent and good clinical results were 78.12 %in Groups A and 95.65 %in Group B respectively. The rate of groin and thigh pains was higher in Group A (36.36 %) than in Group B (6.52 %). The flexion of the hip in Group A was more limited (mean 85 degrees) than in Group B (mean 110 degrees). There were more cases of sunken femoral stem in Group A. The perioperative complications were similar in both groups. Conclusions The total hip arthroplasty is the first choice for the elderly patients with severe displaced femoral neck fracture if the conditions of the patient and the skills of the surgeon permit. The bipolar hemiarthroplasty is suitable for patients of more than 75 years old, or for those with severe diseases.

Objective To investigate the differential expression of hepatocyte growth factor activator (HGFA) and its inhibitors (HAI-1,HAI-2) during cirrhotic and normal liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy, and to explore the causes of the delayed liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy in cirrhotic rat model. Methods We used 40% CCl4 subcutaneous injection to establish the cirrhotic rat model, and then performed 70% liver resection for the experimental group together with no operation for the healthy rats as control group.Rats in each group after 3 hours,6 hours,12 hours,24 hours and 48 hours were randomly sacrificed and specimens were collected. The serum HGFA was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA),and we used RT-PCR to detect the mRNA expressions of HAI-1 and HAI-2 in splenic tissue. Results The serum HGFA level in cirrhotic rats at each time point was all significantly lower than that in the control group (P <0.05).The expression of HAI-1 mRNA in cirrhotic rats was sustained at a higher level than that in the control group (P < 0.05),but there was no significant difference on the HAI-2 mRNA expression between the two groups (P > 0.05).Conclusions The synthesis of HGFA during the liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy in cirrhosis rats is lower compared with healthy rats, which may lead to the insufficient activation of HGF precursor, eventually causing the slow liver regeneration.HAI-2 may not be involved in the healing process of liver.

BACKGROUND:Studies have shown that the reason of the slower liver regeneration in individuals of cirrhotic liver after partial hepatectomy compared with healthy liver may be related to the delayed synthesis and secretion of hepatocyte growth factor during liver regeneration, but the cause of this phenomenon is not clear. The hepatocyte growth factor activator inhibitor found in recent years can indirectly inhibit the activation of hepatocyte growth factor, but there is little research to explore the expression of hepatocyte growth factor activator inhibitor in the regeneration process after partial hepatectomy in cirrhotic liver and its relationship with the liver regeneration. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the expression of hepatocyte growth factor activator inhibitors (HAI-1, HAI-2) during cirrhotic and normal liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy through establishing the cirrhotic rat model, and to explore the biological effects of HAI-1, HAI-2 in cirrhotic liver during the liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy. METHODS:We used 40%CCl4 subcutaneous injection to establish the cirrhotic rat model, then we performed 70%liver resection for the experimental group. The rats in the control group only received ordinary water feeding and 70%liver resection. Rats in each group were randomly sacrificed before surgery and at 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours and 48 hours after surgery, and samples were col ected. We used RT-PCR technology to detect the expression of HAI-1 mRNA, HAI-2 mRNA in splenic tissue. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The expression levels of HAI-1 mRNA of two groups after partial hepatectomy were increased firstly and then decreased. The expression of HAI-1 mRNA in cirrhotic rats was sustained higher than that of the control group (P<0.05), there was no significant difference between the two groups of the expression of HAI-2 mRNA (P>0.05). The expression of HAI-1 mRNA in liver cirrhosis rats after resection was consistently higher than that in healthy rats, which may lead to the insufficient synthesis and secretion of hepatocyte growth factor activator in cirrhotic rats, then hepatocyte growth factor precursor may not be activated enough, eventual y leading to slow liver regeneration. HAI-2 may not be involved in the wound repair process of liver.

Objective To investigate the expression of Dickkopf-3 (Dkk-3) in esophageal cancer and normal esophageal tissue and the relationship between Dkk-3 expression and the biological behaveior of esophageal cancer. Methods Immunohistochemical method of S-P was used to examine Dkk-3 expression in 69 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and 5 cases of normal esophageal tissue with non-tumor tissue microarray and the results were analyzed and correlated with their clinical and pathological features. Results Positive Dkk-3 expression was observed in 65.7% (44/67) of the esophageal squamous cell carcinoma cases, but only one of the five cases with normal esophageal tissue showed positive microvascular expression of Dkk-3. In cases with positive expression of Dkk-3 significant differences were found in fiber membrane infiltration, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and TNM staging (P < 0. 05), while no significant differences were found in the age, gender and pathological grading (P > 0. 05). Conclusions The upregnlation of Dkk-3 expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma may contribute to tumor invasion and metastasis.

OBJECTIVETo perform a meta-analysis on clinical outcomes of minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPPO) or open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for distal tibial fractures in adults.
METHODSPubmed database (from 1968 to March 2014), Cochrane library and CNKI database (from 1998 to March 2014) were searched. Case-control study on minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPPO) or open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for distal tibial fractures in adults were chosen, and postoperative infection, operative time, blood loss, fracture nonunion rate, delayed union, fracture malunion rate were seen as evaluation index for meta analysis. The system review was performed using the method recommended by the Cochrane Collaboration.
RESULTSTotally 5 studies (366 patients) were enrolled. Meta-analysis showed that there were significant meaning in postoperative infection between MIPPO and ORIF [OR = 0.23,95% CI (0.06,0.92), P = 0.04]; fracture nonunion rate in MIPPO was lower than in ORIF group [OR = 0.16, 95% CI (0.03,0.76), P = 0.02]; operative time in MIPPO was shorter than in ORIF group, and had significant difference [MD = -14.42, 95% CI (-27.79, -1.05), P < 0.05]; blood loss in MIPPO was less than in ORIF group [MD= -87.17,95%CI (-99.20, -75.15), P < 0.05]; there was no obviously meaning in delayed union between two groups.
CONCLUSIONFor distal tibial fractures in adults, MIPPO has, advantages of short operative time, less blood loss, lower incidence of infection and fracture non-uniom, but with high fracture malunion rate. MIPPO for distal tibial fractures in adults is better than ORIF, and the best treatment should choose according to patient's condition.
