Objective To investigate the effects of electrical stimulation on the expression of nerve growth factor (NGF) in adult rats with spinal cord injury. Methods 72 adult SD rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: damage control group, electrical stimulation group and normal group. The spinal cord incomplete injury model on T9 was made with Allen's method. The electrical stimulation group received electrical stimulation for 7 d. They were assessed with the Basso, Beattie & Bresnahan locomotor rating scale (BBB scale), and the expression of NGF were tested with immunohistochemistry and Western blot l d, 3 d, 5 d, 7 d after injury. Results The BBB score improved after spinal cord injury, and electrical stimulation group improved more than control group since the 5th day after injury (P<0.05). The expression of NGF increased in electrical stimulation and injury control group after injury (P<0.05). Conclusion Electrical stimulation after spinal cord injury induces expression of NGF that creates a favorable microenvironment for nerve regeneration.

Acupuncture can improve the motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease, and the effect of acupuncture combined with drug therapy is better than that of drug therapy alone. The possible mechanism includes inhibiting α-synuclein aggregation, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation, inhibiting the apoptosis of dopaminergic neurons, and achieving a neuroprotective effect. The points mainly selected for Acupuncture treatment for this disease are Zusanli (ST 36), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Taichong (LR 3), Xuehai (SP 10), and other points. Early use of acupuncture and acupuncture combined with medical treatment strategy is worthy of clinical application.

Objective:The aim of this study was to design and perform "Tap-hammer"system that can be used to elicit vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP) in normal adults and to report the preliminary results of this system. Methods:A triggered Tap-hammer was designed, made and connected with an electric recording system, to form as a system for Tap-VEMP recording. Twenty healthy adult volunteers (7 males and 13 females, aged 20 to 37 years, 40 ears in total) were recruited for air-conducted sound VEMP (ACS-VEMP) and Tap-VEMP examinations. Waveforms and parameters of both VEMPs were recorded and analyzed. SPSS 22.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results:The response rates of ACS-, Tap-ocular VEMP (oVEMP) and ACS-, Tap-cervical VEMP (cVEMP) were both 100% (40/40). The mean±SD n1 latency, p1 latency, n1-p1 interval, amplitude, and asymmetry ratio (AR%) of Tap-oVEMP were (9.80±2.51)ms, (13.90±3.26)ms, (4.09±1.43)ms, (16.43±9.61)μV, (22.68±17.35)% respectively. The mean±SD p1 latency, n1 latency, p1-n1 interval, amplitude, and asymmetry ratio (AR%) of Tap-cVEMP were (13.26±2.07)ms, (21.84±2.89)ms, (8.58±2.10)ms, (457.65±274.94)μV, (20.42±13.46)% respectively. Both n1 latency and p1 latency of Tap-VEMPs were shorter than those in ACS-VEMPs ( P<0.05). No statistical difference could be found between the two stimulation methods in the parameters of n1-p1 interval, amplitude, and asymmetry ratio( P>0.05). Conclusion:The Tap-hammer system can elicit VEMP responses in healthy young people. This system can be used as an alternative stimulation method for bone conduction VEMP.

Objective:To investigate the clinicopathological features of non-tuberculosis mycobacterial lung disease and the role of molecular pathology in diagnosis.Methods:Forty-five formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded (FFPE) specimens were collected from the Department of Pathology, Beijing Chest Hospital from February 2016 to August 2019. The clinical, imaging and histopathologic features, bacteriologic data and morphologic characteristics of acid fast bacilli (AFB) were analyzed retrospectively. Specific gene sequence IS6110 of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) was detected by fluorescence PCR. Identification of Mycobacteria was by melting curve method. Fifty cases of pulmonary tuberculosis were selected in the same period as control. Results:The NTM lung cases included 18 cases (40.0%, 18/45) of M. intracellulare, eight cases (17.8%, 8/45) of M. xenopi, six cases (13.3%, 6/45) of M. avium, six cases (13.3%, 6/45) of M. kansasii, six cases (13.3%, 6/45) of M. chelonae and one case (2.2%, 1/45) of M. simiae. Histopathologically, there were necrotizing granulomas in 34 cases (75.6%, 34/45), non-necrotizing granuloma in one case (2.2%, 1/45) and non-granulomatous lesions in 10 cases (22.2%, 10/45). The necrosis was pink necrosis, basophilic necrosis rich in nuclear fragments and suppurative necrosis. Pulmonary TB showed more pink necrosis and basophilic necrosis, the difference was statistically significant (χ 2=10.270, P=0.001; χ 2=7.449, P=0.006). Seventeen cases (37.8%, 17/45) of NTM lung disease showed giant multinucleated giant cells, which were significantly different from those in pulmonary tuberculosis group (χ 2=13.446, P<0.01). The number and morphology of AFB were also different. More AFB were found in M. intracellular cases and significant AFB were easily seen in M. kansasii infection. Conclusions:M. tuberculosis and NTM cannot be reliably differentiated by histologic features or by AFB morphology. Molecular assays are important to distinguish tuberculosis from NTM lung disease.

Objective:To explore the therapeutic effect of low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave (Li-ESW) in model rats with chronic prostatitis and its optimal parameters. Methods:From April to August 2019, 90 healthy male SD rats aged 8 weeks were randomly divided into control group (group C, n=15), model group (group M, n=15) and shock wave treatment group (group T, n=60), which were treated with Li-ESW after being modeled successfully. The rats in group T were supine and treated with focused Li-ESW, and the probe was placed above the anatomical position of the prostate. Treatment scheme was 3 Hz of frequency, 500 pulses, and once a week for 4 weeks. Group T was divided into group T1(0.09 mJ/mm 2), T2(0.20 mJ/mm 2), T3(0.30 mJ/mm 2) and T4(0.40 mJ/mm 2) according to energy flux density, with 15 rats in each group. Before the establishment of the model, the rats in each group were tested with von Frey fiber of 2 g, 4 g and 6 g at the scrotum respectively, and the positive reaction was recorded. There was no significant difference between the three groups ( P>0.05). After one week, the rat model with CP was established by injecting 3% carrageenan into the bilateral lobes of the prostate under anesthesia. And one week after the modeling was completed, the rats in each group underwent von Frey test again to measure pain and evaluate the modeling effects. Group T was then treated once a week for a 4-week period. During the treatment, von Frey test was performed before each treatment to evaluate the treatment effect of the previous week. After the von Frey test for one, two and four weeks of treatment, 5 rats were sacrificed in each group, and the bilateral lobes of the prostate were dissected under aseptic conditions for paraffin inclusion and HE staining. Result:The positive reaction in group M and each group T was significantly more than those in group C ( P<0.001) one week after the modeling was completed, and there was no significant difference between group M and group T. The number of positive reactions in group T2 was lower than that in group M at each time point after treatment ( P<0.05), and it is also less in group T1, T3 and T4 were than that in group M after 3 weeks, 3 and 4 weeks and 2 weeks respectively( P<0.05). In group T2, the number of positive reactions began to decrease after 1 week of treatment, and reached the lowest after 4 weeks, with significant difference in pain measurement results at different time points ( P<0.05). The results of pathological examination showed that there were more inflammatory cells in prostatic stroma and disordered arrangement of epithelial cells in group M than that in group C. The pathological scores of group M, T1, T2, T3 and T4 were 8, 7, 4, 6, 9 after 1 week treatment, 8, 5, 3, 4, 7 points after 2 weeks treatment, and 7, 3, 2, 4, 7 points after 4 weeks treatment, respectively. Conclusions:Low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave treatment had a significant effect on the improvement of symptoms in model rats with chronic prostatitis. Under the scheme of frequency 3 Hz, 500 pulses, once a week for 4 weeks, the optimal parameters is 0.20 mJ/mm 2.
