AlM:To discuss the protective effect ofα-mangostin on retinal light damage in mice.METHODS:Totally 30 Balb/c mice, aged 6~8wk, were randomly divided into the control group, light-exposure group and α-mangostin group. Every group contained 10 mice. Mice of α-mangostin group were treated with alpha-mangostin at the dose of 30mg/( kg · d ) body weight by intragastric administration daily for 7d, and then exposed to white light at the 5th d. The light-exposure group and α-mangostin group were exposed to 5 000 ± 200lx white light-emmiting diodes (LEDs) for continuously 1h to establish the mice model of retinal light damage. Flash -electroretinograme was recorded 72h after light exposure. The changes in retinal morphology of mice were observed by light microscopy. Retinas were extracted to detect the malondialdhyde ( MDA ) content change of the retinal homogenate.RESULTS: Flash-electroretinogram ( F-ERG ) showed that retinal dysfunction was less severe in α-mangostin group than in light-exposure group ( P<0. 05 ). Light microscopy test showed that retina structural damage was less severe in α-mangostin group than in light-exposure group (P<0. 05). The level of MDA in retinal tissue of α-mangostin group was significantly lower when compared with light-exposure group (P<0. 05).CONCLUSlON: α-mangostin inhibits lipid peroxidation induced by light damage and protect retina against light damage.

Objective:To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on the expressions of acetylcholine (ACh) and mucin 5AC (MUC5AC) in the lungs of rats with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD),and explore the mechanism of EA in treating COPD.Methods:Thirty Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into a control group,a COPD group,and an EA group,with 10 rats in each group.The control group was a group of normal rats.The COPD rat model was induced by cigarette smoke combined with lipopolysaccharide (LPS).The COPD rats were treated with EA at bilateral Feishu (BL 13) and Zusanli (ST 36) in the EA group,30 min each time,once a day,successively for 14 d.The lung function was tested.The contents of ACh and MUC5AC in lungs and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Pearson method was used to analyze the correlation between pulmonary function and the content of MUC5AC in lungs.The mRNA and protein expressions of MUC5AC in lung tissues were detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blot (WB),respectively.The immune response of MUC5AC was observed by immunohistochemistry.Results:Eight rats were left in each group,and the other two died.Compared with the control group,the total airway resistance (Raw) increased significantly and dynamic compliance (Cdyn) decreased significantly in the COPD group (P＜0.01);compared with the COPD group,the Raw level declined significantly and Cdyn increased significantly in the EA group (P＜0.01).The contents of ACh and MUC5AC in the lungs and BALF were remarkably higher in the COPD group compared with those in the control group (P＜0.01,P＜0.001);compared with the COPD group,the contents of ACh and MUC5AC were significantly lower in the EA group (P＜0.05,P＜0.001).There was a negative correlation between MUC5AC content and lung function (P＜0.001).The mRNA and protein expressions of MUC5AC in the lungs were significantly higher in the COPD group than in the control group (P＜0.001);compared with the COPD group,the expressions were significantly lower in the EA group (P＜0.01).Compared with the control group,the immune response of MUC5AC in the airway epithelium significantly increased in the COPD group (P＜0.001);the immune response of MUC5AC was significantly lower in the EA group compared with that in the COPD group (P＜0.001).Conclusion:EA treatment can improve the lung function of COPD rats,which may be related to its effect in the down-regulation of ACh and MUC5AC contents in the lungs as well as the inhibition of mucus hypersecretion.

OBJECTIVETo introduce the technique of minimally invasive percutaneous pedicle screws osteosynthesis (MIPPSO) and compare the preliminary clinical outcomes of the treatment of thoraco-lumbar vertebra fracture with traditional open pedicle screws osteosynthesis (TOPSO).

METHODSUsing the "C" arm fluoroscopic guidance, the pedicle screws were put through new-designed instrumentation and inserted percutaneously with fifty cases of thoraco-lumbar vertebra fracture. Semi-Laminectomy were made in the heavy-occupation side through the incision of 4 cm. Vertebroplasty were made through pedicle of disease vertebrae. perioperative parameter and the index of image were compared with the treatment of traditional open pedicle screws osteosynthesis in other fifty cases.

RESULTSThe consumed time of operation in the MIPPSO group and the TOPSO group made no significant difference (P >0.05), but the length of incision, injury of paraspinal muscles, bleeding of operation, drain of postoperation, pain of postoperation, spending time of hospitalization were all significantly different between the two group (P <0.05). Each group compared to itself between preoperation and postoperation, the vertebral height, the height of intervertebral disk, Cobb's angle and the occupation index of vertebral canal were all significantly different (P <0.05). however compared to each other, whether preoperation or postoperation, there were not significant different in the index of image (P >0.05).

CONCLUSIONSThe technique of minimally invasive percutaneous pedicle screws osteosynthesis (MIPPSO) has the advantages of simple manipulation, safety, small trauma, less bleeding, light pain, quickly recovery and short hospitalization time.

Objective To construct small RNA deletion and overexpression strains with a length of less than 100 nt in Yersinia pestis.Methods Deletion mutants of the target sRNAs were constructed by increasing the length of homologous regions.Meanwhile, the high copy plasmid pBAD/HisA was modified into an inducible transcriptional vector as an sRNA-overexpression plasmid by using QuikChange lightning site-directed mutagenesis kit .The presence , size, and transcription-al initiation sites of the indicated sRNA were predicted by transcriptome sequencing , primer extension , and previous stud-ies.The full-length DNA fragments of target sRNAs were transformed into the transcriptional vector .The overexpressing strains of sRNAs were identified by Northern Blot .Results and Conclusion Four sRNAs deletion mutants of sR01, sR02, sR03 and HmsA and three sRNAs overexpression mutants MicF , HmsA and CpxQ were successfully constructed .A method of construction of sRNA deficient and overexpressing strains of Y.pestis has been quickly and efficiently established by λ-Red homologous recombination technology and QuikChange ? lightning site-directed mutagenesis kit.

OBJECTIVETo prospectively investigate the effectiveness of suction drainage for correction of maxillofacial deformities caused by cystic lesions of the mandible.

METHODSSuction drainage was performed in 21 cases with large cystic lesions of the mandible which had expanded facial contour. Clinical and radiological examinations of these patients were carried out regularly. The volume of the cavity was measured during treatment. The expansion indexes on axial CT image and area of the cyst on a panoramic radiograph were measured preoperatively and postoperatively. The curettage via intraoral incision was completed until the extent of disease significantly shrunk.

RESULTSAfter a mean duration of suction drainage of 5.1 months, the volume and the size on the panoramic radiographic of the cystic lesions were reduced by an average of 84% and 63% respectively. The expansion indexes were reduced notably during treatment. Computerized tomography of the mandible showed that the contour of expanded mandible was restored greatly and notable new bone was formed in the area of cortex perforation.

CONCLUSIONSSuction drainage is a useful treatment modality for the primary management of giant cystic lesion of the mandible, and can fast correct maxillofacial deformities caused by bony expansion and perforation in the area of cystic lesions.

The biological characters of Sindbis virus strain of Yunnan(YN87448 strain) were studied by the test of the filtration, acid-resistant, ether-resistant, CPE, susceptibility of animal, HA, plague, determination of virus titres, and the cross-HI, cross-IFAT and PRNT as well.The results indicated that YN87448 strain belongs to Sindbis virus, Alphavirus, Togaviridae. YN87448 strain virus was plaque purified(PYN87448). The biological character of PYN87448 strain virus was studied too. PYN87448 strain virus will be used in the molecule biological test.

Objective To establish the feasibility of performing an endoscopic anterior approach for upper cervical spine in a clinical setting.Methods Application of this method on 13 Chinese cadavers was conducted to verify the practicability of this technique.Anatomic data were obtained by measuring the anterior cervical specimens,and anatomic observation was conducted in the neighboring structure through below the su- perior thyroid artery.Results The superior thyroid vascular-nerve plexus was neighbor to the puncture can- nula.But there has a quite large distance between the hypoglossal,the glossopharyngeal,the lingual artery, the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve and the puncture cannula.There has enough space between the posterior wall of the pharynx and the prevertebral fascia to put the MDE canuula.Conclusion This ca- daver and clinical study demonstrates that an endoscopic anterior approach to the upper cervical spine is safe and feasible,and can be a valid alternative to the conventional transoral approach.

Chronic hepatitis B virus ( HBV) infection is a principal risk factor for liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma in China , representing one of the major public health problems .Horizontal trans-mission of HBV in vaccinated children was greatly reduced due to widespread HBV vaccination in mainland China, which had limited effects on vertical transmission .Thus, vertical transmission became one of the main causes of HBV chronic infection .High HBV load (≥10 6 copies/mL ) and hepatitis B e antigen ( HBeAg )-positivity in maternal peripheral blood were independent risk factors for HBV intrauterine infection .Compared to HBV infection in early childhood and in adult , intrauterine HBV infection was more prone to developing chronic infection .To decrease vertical transmission of HBV , we recommend that young pregnant women with sero-positive for HBeAg and high serum HBV DNA level should receive antiviral treatment with nucleotide analogues since the 28 th gestation weeks .For newborns born to HBeAg-positive mother , hepatitis B immunoglobulin ( HBIG ) injection should be administrated in combination with HBV vaccination .

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of levalbuterol hydrochloride in the treatment of mild - moderate asthma. Methods Randomized double -blind, control clinical study was carried out. One hundred twenty- two mild- moderate asthma patients were randomized to enroll the study. Trial group was treated with oral Ievalbuterol hydrochlo-ride tablets 1.15 nag thrice daily. Control group was treated with oral sal-butamol sulphate tablets 2 mg thrice daily. The therapy window is ( 14 ±2) d. Results Comparison with baseline, the first forced expiratory vol-ume vs predicted( FEV1% ), the first forced expiratory volume (FEV1)and the first forced expiratory volume vs the forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC) were obviously improved in trial group. There is significantly statis-ties difference (P≤0. 05 ). Control group has no significant variance pre and post treatment. Drug adverse reaction of trial group and control group is 12.5% and 15.3% ,respectively. There is no marked difference between two groups. Conclusion Two groups are equivalent in the treatment of mild to moderate asthma, moreover, lung function has been more improved greatly in trial group compared with control group.

Objective To compare the clinical efficacy and safety of levetiracetam tablet and carbamazepine tablet in the treatment of children's intractable epilepsy.Methods A total of 96 children with intractable epilepsy were randomly divided into control group and treatment group with 48 cases per group.Control group was given carbamazepine 4-8 mg · kg-1 · d-1,tid,oral.Treatment group was given levetiracetam 4 mg · kg-1,bid,the maximum dose was 16 mg · kg-1 at the speed as 4 mg · kg-1 with every 2 weeks.Two groups were treated for 8 months.The clinical efficacy,neurocognitive function test [verbal intelligence quotient(VIQ),performance intelligence quotient (PIQ),total intelligence quotient(TIQ) and short-term visual memory],and adverse drug reactions were compared between two groups.Results After treatment,the total effective rates in treatment and control groups were 87.50％ (42 cases/48 cases) and 79.17％ (38 cases/48 cases) with significant difference (P ＜ 0.05).After treatment,the main indexes in treatment and control groups were compared:VIQ were (106.97 ± 5.65) and (95.25 ± 3.28) points,PIQ were (116.45 ± 5.16) and (103.61 ± 2.74) points,TIQ were(119.92 ± 4.69) and(95.20 ± 3.24) points,short-term visual memory were (18.45 ± 2.17) and (13.84 ± 1.81) s,the differences were statistically significant (all P ＜ 0.05).The adverse drug reactions of two groups were based on emotional,drowsiness,palpitations and dizziness,also,the incidences of adverse drug reactions in treatment and control groups were 12.50％ and 16.67％ without significant difference (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion Levetiracetam tablet has a definitive clinical efficacy in the treatment of children's intractable epilepsy,which is better than carbamazepine tablet.Levetiracetam tablet can improve the cognitive ability for children's intractable epilepsy,without increasing the incidence of adverse drug reactions.
