Chinese Journal of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Diseases 2003;21(5):356-358
OBJECTIVETo study the main factors affecting sound-insulation effects of control rooms in workshops with noise, so as to improve the protection.
METHODSThe sound-insulation effects of 467 control rooms were determined, and different building materials, structures of door and window, airtight states etc. were analyzed.
RESULTSThe affecting factors contributed to the sound-insulation effects (Eta(2)) were in the order: airtight states (0.168), building materials (0.080), structures of window and door (0.030, 0.029), sound pressure levels and frequency spectrum's characteristics (0.008, 0.006). Under airtight state, the sound-insulation effects of different building materials of the rooms were as follows: double bricks [(19.6 +/- 3.5) dB(A)]; single brick [(15.4 +/- 3.4) dB(A)]; plank [(13.1 +/- 1.6) dB(A)] or aluminum alloy plate with glass [(13.4 +/- 2.5) dB(A)] (P < 0.01). Of 4 group rooms, with the same structure of doors but double or single bricks of windows. 3 groups with dormant window had higher sound-insulation effects [(15.9 +/- 2.8), (18.7 +/- 3.6), (19.3 +/- 2.5) dB(A)] than those with casement window [(14.1 +/- 2.4), (14.9 +/- 2.3), (16.5 +/- 2.4) dB(A)] (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05); 2 groups with dehydrated window [(18.7 +/- 3.3), (22.6 +/- 3.8) dB(A)] higher than those with dormant window [(15.9 +/- 2.8), (19.9 +/- 3.0) dB(A)] (P < 0.05). Of 6 group rooms, with the same structure of windows but double or single bricks of doors, only in 1 group with double-layer door had higher sound-insulation effect [(18.7 +/- 3.6) dB(A)] than that with single-layer door [(15.9 +/- 2.8) dB(A)] (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONThe control room should be designed rationally, kept airtight, according to the sound pressure levels and the condition of the workshop.

AIM: To explore the characteristic of relaxation of porcine cornea after LASIKMETHODS: Usual LASIK was performed on fresh porcine corneas with stable intraoculer pressure (IOP) maintained through optic nerve irrigation. The ablation depth on stroma is 30%, 50% and 70% respectively. Then the dumbbell-shaped corneal strip specimens were cut and stored in 20% Human Albumin solution for use (4℃).Sip up the Albumin solution on specimens, and fixed them on homemade jig. Stress relaxation tests were erformed on Tytron250 Dynamics Experiment System. the loading speed was 385mm/min,extending ratewas 1.5, and relaxation time was 1 000s. The data werecollected electronically and automatically.RESULTS: In LASIK procedure, though a single flap-cutting can cause a little reduction of corneal stress relaxation (P<0.05,P=0.49), the cornea may still remain its property of visco-elasticity. When ablation depth was 30% or more, corneal stress relaxation decreased to almost one half (P<0.01).The change of corneal stress relaxation degree in vertical meridian specimen was lower than that in horizontal specimen, especially when ablation depth was 70%, and it's statistically significant (P<0.001). In LASIK operation, the more depth the ablation, the more reduce the stress relaxation degree, and it's easy to cause deformation and creep deformation.CONCLUSION: The changes of the stress relaxation in verticai and longitudinal meridian specimens are similar, and slightly obvious in longitudinal specimen, especially in 70%ablation group.

OBJECTIVETo study the mechanism and significance of peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) of neonates infected with hepatitis B virus (HBV).
METHODSEighty-four HBsAg-positive and HBeAg-negative mothers and their newborns were recruited in this study. Sixteen hepatitis B virus markers (HBVM)-negative mothers and their neonates were served as control. All these cases had no symptoms of hepatitis, serious pregnancy complications and preexisting disease. Age, gestational age and the method of delivery were matched in two groups (P > 0.05). Five ml blood samples were taken from the peripheral vein of the pregnant women before delivery and from neonates within 24 hours after birth, before inoculation of HBV vaccine (HBVac). Serum and PBMC were isolated from 2 ml and 3 ml samples respectively. The sera, PBMC and the last supernatant of PBMC washing were stored at -80 degrees C. HBVM of neonates were detected by using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). HBV DNA in serum, PBMC and the last supernatant of PBMC washing of mothers and neonates were detected by using a nested-polymerase chain reaction (n-PCR). Two pairs of oligonucleotide primers, the outer primer pair for first PCR and inner primer pair for second PCR, designed according to region S of HBV genome were synthesized at Shanghai Cell Biology Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The neonates who were HBV DNA positive in PBMC but HBsAg and HBV DNA negative in serum were followed up for one year, HBsAb in serum and HBV DNA in PBMC were observed in the neonates.
RESULTS(1) The positive rate of HBV DNA in 84 serum and PBMC of mothers were 53.57% and 40.48%, respectively (chi(2) = 2.891, P > 0.05). All the results were weakly positive. (2) Twenty-four (28.57%) newborns in the study group were infected, including 7 who were only HBV DNA positive in serum, 11 only HBV DNA positive in PBMC and 6 in both, all the results were weakly positive. HBsAg was negative in all the newborns. None of the neonates in control group was infected with HBV. There was significant difference between the two groups (chi(2) = 4.55, P < 0.05). (3) Of all the study cases, 11 (13.10%) neonates were HBV DNA weakly positive in PBMC but HBsAg and HBV DNA negative in serum. Of their mothers, 5 were only HBV DNA positive in serum, 2 only positive in PBMC and 4 positive in both serum and PBMC. Seven of the 11 neonates were followed up for one year and at the end of follow-up, 4 were HBsAb positive and HBV DNA negative in PBMC; 3 were HBsAb negative, and among the 3 cases HBV DNA in 2 was still positive in PBMC, HBsAg and HBV DNA in serum were negative in all the 7 neonates.
CONCLUSION(1) HBV DNA positivity either in serum or in PBMC in mothers can result in infection of PBMC with HBV in their neonates. (2) PBMC infection with HBV can exist for a long time in neonates while HBsAg and HBV DNA are negative in serum, and may result in vaccination failure in neonates.

BACKGROUNDOld pelvis fractures are among the most challenging fractures to treat because of their complex anatomy, difficult-to-access surgical sites, and the relatively low incidence of such cases. Proper evaluation and surgical planning are necessary to achieve the pelvic ring symmetry and stable fixation of the fracture. The goal of this study was to assess the use of three-dimensional (3D) printing techniques for surgical management of old pelvic fractures.
METHODSFirst, 16 dried human cadaveric pelvises were used to confirm the anatomical accuracy of the 3D models printed based on radiographic data. Next, nine clinical cases between January 2009 and April 2013 were used to evaluate the surgical reconstruction based on the 3D printed models. The pelvic injuries were all type C, and the average time from injury to reconstruction was 11 weeks (range: 8-17 weeks). The workflow consisted of: (1) Printing patient-specific bone models based on preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans, (2) virtual fracture reduction using the printed 3D anatomic template, (3) virtual fracture fixation using Kirschner wires, and (4) preoperatively measuring the osteotomy and implant position relative to landmarks using the virtually defined deformation. These models aided communication between surgical team members during the procedure. This technique was validated by comparing the preoperative planning to the intraoperative procedure.
RESULTSThe accuracy of the 3D printed models was within specification. Production of a model from standard CT DICOM data took 7 hours (range: 6-9 hours). Preoperative planning using the 3D printed models was feasible in all cases. Good correlation was found between the preoperative planning and postoperative follow-up X-ray in all nine cases. The patients were followed for 3-29 months (median: 5 months). The fracture healing time was 9-17 weeks (mean: 10 weeks). No delayed incision healing, wound infection, or nonunions occurred. The results were excellent in two cases, good in five, and poor in two based on the Majeed score.
CONCLUSIONSThe 3D printing planning technique for pelvic surgery was successfully integrated into a clinical workflow to improve patient-specific preoperative planning by providing a visual and haptic model of the injury and allowing patient-specific adaptation of each osteosynthesis implant to the virtually reduced pelvis.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the characteristic of cervical lymph node metastasis of hypopharyngeal carcinoma and its influence to the prognosis.
METHODSOne hundred and eight hypopharyngeal carcinoma patients who accepted treatments in the 1st Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University from 1985 to 2000 were reviewed retrospectively. All of them accepted surgical treatment without pre-operative chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Stage was made according to the standard of International Union Against Cancer (UICC) in 1992. Specimens of the patients were carefully examined to confirm the primary site of the tumor and the distribution of cervical lymph node metastasis. Pathological differentiations of the tumor were classified into high, middle and low category. Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate the 3rd, 5th years survival.
RESULTSThe rates of lymph node metastasis of was 45.8% for patients with TI and T2 disease, 79.8% for those with T3 and T4, and 75.0% (81/108)for the whole patients(P < 0.05). Patients with pyriform sinus cancer occupied 92.6% (100/108) of all the cases. Cervical lymph node metastasis rate of pyriform sinus cancer and posterior pharyngeal wall cancer were 74. 0% and 87. 5% respectively (P > 0.05). Cervical lymph node metastasis rate of patients with the high, middle and low differentiation tumor were 72. 2% , 67.6% and 85.7% respectively (P > 0.05). The 3rd and 5th years survival rates of all patients were 67.53% and 29.87% respectively. The occurrence of cervical lymph node metastasis was 76.5% in the level II and III, and 8.6% in the level V and VI. CONCLUSIONS Cervical lymph node metastasis rate of hypopharyngeal carcinoma is high. Cervical lymph node metastasis was one of the most significant prognostic factors of hypopharyngeal carcinoma. With the increase of the cervical node metastasis, the 3rd and 5th years survival of the patients declined gradually.

Chinese Journal of Virology 2008;24(6):456-463
Classical swine fever (CSF) is a contagious swine disease charactered by hemorrhagic fever and leukopenia, usually leading to substantial economic losses. To obtain a insight of leucopenia caused by CSFV infection, DNA microarray analyses of peripheral blood leucocytes (PBL) of the infected pigs was performed. Three health pigs were inoculated with a lethal dose of CSFV Shimen strain and their PBLs were isolated when the onset of typical clinical signs and then subjected to total RNA extraction followed by microarray analysis with Affymetrix Porcine Genome Array GeneChips. The results showed that the significant differences were observed in cellular apoptotic genes expression at 7 days post-infection (p. i.). The changes of the genes expression were confirmed by real time RT-PCR of some selected apoptosis-related genes. This study provided a valuable information for further investigating the molecular mechanism of apoptosis caused by CSFV infection.
