In order to clarify material basis of effective parts of liangxue tongyu prescription, blood-heat and blood-stasis rat model induced by dry yeast was established. The changes of rectal temperature, blood viscosity and plasma viscosity were used to evaluate the cooling-blood and activating-blood effects of liangxue tongyu prescription and its parts. Compared with the model group, the extract from liangxue tongyu prescription, its volatile oil and n-butanol part could significantly reduce rectal temperature (P<0.01), and also reduce blood viscosity and plasma viscosity to various degrees (P<0.01 or P<0.05). So volatile oil and n-butanol part were primarily identified as effective parts of liangxue tongyu prescription. By using GC-MS with normalization method of area to analyze volatile oil of liangxue tongyu prescription, 70 compounds were identified, accounting for about 92.54%, mainly as β-asarone, paeonol, α-asarone and shyobunone. 42 compounds such as peony glycosides, tannins, and iridoid glycosides were identified by HPLC-MS techniques and standard comparison. The study determined the effective parts of liangxue tongyu prescription and clarified the chemical composition providing the foundation for further studies on material basis of liangxue tongyu prescription.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the relationship between serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) variant levels in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cancer cells disseminating through blood.
METHODSSerum AFP variant levels were measured by crossed immunoaffino-electrophoresis in the presence of lectin before initial surgical treatment in HCC patients. Circulating tumor cells were simultaneously detected in pre-operative blood samples using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for AFP mRNA.
RESULTSForty-six HCC patients with serum AFP positive were studied. Serum AFP variant level > or 20% was showed in 37 patients, among whom there were 22 (59.5%) showing AFP mRNA positive. In contrast, the positive AFP mRNA expression was only observed in 2 out of 9 patients (22.2%) with AFP variant level<20% (x(2)=4.02, P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONIn hepatocellular carcinoma patients, increased AFP variant levels are associated with a haematogenous spread of tumor cells.

Objective:To investigate the effect of Xiaoyaosan on depressive behavioral phenotype in mice with vascular dementia (VaD) mice and its possible mechanism. Method:Sixty three-month-old male C57/BL6 mice were divided into the normal control group, model group, positive control group, as well as low-, medium-, and high-dose Xiaoyaosan groups. Mice in all groups except for the normal control group underwent bilateral carotid artery stenosis. Two weeks later, they were subjected to chronic restraint stress, 6 h per day, for inducing VaD complicated with depression. Mice in the low-, medium-, and high-dose Xiaoyaosan groups were treatment with intragastric administration of Xiaoyaosan decoction (5, 10, 20 g·kg-1), the ones in the positive control group with fluoxetine (10 mg·kg-1), and those in the normal control group and model group with an equal volume of normal saline for four weeks, during which the restraint stress was maintained. The depressive behavioral phenotype of mice was observed in sugar water preference test and tail suspension test. The fluorescence expression of myelin basic protein (MBP) in ventral hippocampus (vHIP) was detected by fluorescence immunoassay. The ultrastructure of myelin sheath in vHIP was observed by transmission electron microscopy. The protein expression levels of MBP, myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG), myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG), triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-2 (TREM2), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), arginase 1 (Arg1), interleukin-I

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the efficacy and safety of endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), and to compare the prognosis between patients of different ages.
METHODSThe hospitalization and follow-up data of 81 AAA patients treated by EVAR from May 2005 to May 2011 were retrospectively analyzed. All the patients were divided into advanced age group (age ≥ 75 years, 24 cases) and relatively young group (age < 75 years, 57 cases). General conditions, comorbidity, procedure, in-hospital complications, and follow-up were compared between these two groups.
RESULTSAll covered stents were successfully deployed, a technical success rate of 91.4% (74/81) was achieved. There was no intraoperative death. In-hospital mortality was 1.2% (1/81). The follow-up rate was 91.4% (74/81), with a mean follow-up of 47.5 months. Twelve deaths were recorded during follow-up, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5-year survival rates were 98.6%, 92.2%, 80.8%, 58.7%, and 44.1%, respectively. When compared with relatively young group, the advanced age group had a lower rate of abdominal pain as the major symptom, but a higher rates of renal diseases and coronary artery diseases. Furthermore, the advanced age group had a longer stay in intensive care unit and higher morbidity of endoleaks, and also tended to have increased rates of pulmonary infection and access site hematoma, while the other parameters were similar between the two groups.
CONCLUSIONSEVAR of AAA is less invasive, safe, and effective during short to mid-tern follow-up. The patients of advanced age suffer from higher rates of some complications, thus careful perioperative preparation and intensive monitor are mandatory for preventing or treating potential complications and improving prognosis for these patients.

BACKGROUNDThe prevalence of sudden sensorineural hearing loss in children (CSSNHL) is consistently increasing. However, the pathology and prognosis of CSSNHL are still poorly understood. This retrospective study evaluated clinical characteristics and possible associated factors of CSSNHL.
METHODSOne hundred and thirty-six CSSNHL patients treated in Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Institute of Otolaryngology at Chinese PLA General Hospital between July 2008 and August 2015 were included in this study. These patients were analyzed for clinical characteristics, audiological characteristics, laboratory examinations, and prognostic factors.
RESULTSAmong the 136 patients (151 ears), 121 patients (121 ears, 80.1%) were diagnosed with unilaterally CSSNHL, and 15 patients (30 ears, 19.9%) with bilateral CSSNHL. The complete recovery rate of CSSNHL was 9.3%, and the overall recovery rate was 37.7%. We found that initial degree of hearing loss, onset of treatment, tinnitus, the ascending type audiogram, gender, side of hearing loss, the recorded auditory brainstem response (ABR), and distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) had prognostic significance. Age, ear fullness, and vertigo had no significant correlation with recovery. Furthermore, the relevant blood tests showed 30.8% of the children had abnormal white blood cell (WBC) counts, 22.1% had elevated homocysteine levels, 65.8% had high alkaline phosphatase (ALP), 33.8% had high IgE antibody levels, and 86.1% had positive cytomegalovirus (CMV) IgG antibodies.
CONCLUSIONSCSSNHL commonly occurs unilaterally and results in severe hearing loss. Initial severe hearing loss and bilateral hearing loss are negative prognostic factors for hearing recovery, while positive prognostic factors include tinnitus, gender, the ascending type audiogram, early treatment, identifiable ABR waves, and DPOAEs. Age, vertigo, and ear fullness are not correlated with the recovery. Some serologic indicators, including the level of WBC, platelet, homocysteine, ALP, positive CMV IgG antibody, fibrinogen, and some immunologic indicators, are closely related to CSSNHL.

ObjectiveTo investigate the attentional bias and its time course towards emotional faces in three different rumination types of college students. MethodsThe positive and negative rumination scale was used to identify three rumination types among college students, and we selected 28 students from each type to explore attentional bias within a dot probe paradigm combined with eye-tracking techonology. The emotional stimuli included positive-neutral, negative-neutral and neutral-neutral emotional face pairs. ResultsThe reaction time indices showed that for negative-neutral face pairs, the effects of rumination type on bias index (BI) and disengaging index (DI) were statistically significant (F = 20.11,P < 0.001, η2 = 0.33), (F = 11.46,P < 0.001, η2 = 0.22]. But no statistical significance was found for positive-neutral face pairs. BI (t = 7.06, P < 0.001, d = 1.34) and DI (t = 5.92, P < 0.001, d = 1.12) in the negative ruminators towards negative faces and BI in the positive ruminators towards positive faces (t = 2.78, P < 0.01, d = 0.53) were all statistically different from 0. No statistical difference between orienting index (OI) and 0 was found in three types towards any emotional stimuli (P > 0.05). Eye movement indicators revealed that the probabilities of the first fixation were statistically different from 0.5 in all participants under all conditions and the deviation of first fixation latency was statistically different from 0 in normal ruminators tworards positive and negative faces. In all participants towards positive and negative faces, statistical differences were found between the deviation of first fixation duration and 0, the percentage of dwell time and 0.5; and the main effects of face pictures were observed (F = 8.24,P = 0.005, η2 = 0.033), (F = 9.31,P = 0.003, η2 = 0.036). ConclusionsReaction time indices showed that negative ruminators had attentional bias to negative stimuli, manifested as difficulty in disengaging attention, while positive ruminators had attentional bias to positive stimuli. Eye movement indicators showed that all types of ruminators had orienting bias of first fixation, initial and overall attention maintenance to emotional stimuli, and the attention maintenance effect towards negative stimuli was greater.

Nanozymes, a groundbreaking discovery by Chinese scientists, represent a novel and remarkable property of nanomaterials. They not only exhibit catalytic activity comparable to natural enzymes, but also boast exceptional stability, tunable reactivity, and the ability to catalyze reactions under mild conditions. The identification of nanozymes has unveiled the biocatalytic potential of inorganic nanomaterials. In parallel, inorganic minerals have long been regarded as pivotal catalysts in the origin of life, driving the synthesis of early biomolecules. These minerals not only facilitate redox reactions that convert simple inorganic compounds into organic molecules but also enable chiral selection, the synthesis of biomacromolecules, and radioprotective functions via their surface structures. Recent advances suggest that inorganic nanomaterials can delicately catalyze the formation of biomolecules, aid in macromolecular assembly, and provide radiation shielding. Furthermore, nanominerals are found in abundance across Earth and extraterrestrial environments. This paper seeks to explore the potential of nanozymes as catalytic agents in the processes that gave rise to life, integrating the catalytic roles of inorganic minerals with the unique attributes of nanozymes, which will provide a new perspective for research of origin of life.
