OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the expressions of EphrinB2 and VEGF in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and their relationships with clinic pathological factors.
METHOD:
The expressions of EphrinB2 and VEGF in 136 cases of nasopharyngeal carcinomas, and 20 cases of nasopharyngitis tissues were detected by SP method immunohistochemistry.
RESULT:
1) The positive rates of EphrinB2 and VEGF were 63.2% and 67.6% respectively in 136 cases of nasopharyngeal carcinomas. Their positive rate in nasopharyneal carcinoma tissues was significantly higher than those in nasopharyngitis tissues (P<0.01). 2) Intensity of the expression of EphrinB2 and VEGF protein was related to lymphnodes metabasis, cranial nerve palsy, basalis encroachment, clinical stage respectively (P<0.01). 3) The expression of EphrinB2 in nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissues and was positively correlated with VEGF (P< 0.01).
CONCLUSION
Ephrinbeta2 and VEGF may play important roles in invasiveness, metastasis and angiogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. There may be certain inter regulation mechanism between them and they are hoped to become new biologic parameters to judge the pathogenesis, development and prognosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and to guide the treatment.

OBJECTIVETo enhance the clinical doctors' cognizance of atypical spinal dural arteriovenous fistulae (SDAVFs) associated with perimedullary anteriovenous fistulae (PMAVFs).
METHODSThe clinical imaging and surgical therapy of 3 patients with PMAVFs were analyzed retrospectively.
RESULTSThe clinical presentations of the 3 patients were not significantly different from those of typical SDAVFs. They were verified by repeated spinal angiography that the anterior spinal artery (ASA) is supplied to the drainage-vein. The 3 patients were treated surgically. First two operations were performed to eliminate the supply of ASA and dural branch, then the supply of the dural branch was amputated, and finally both the ASA and dural branch supplies were excised successfully. Clinical symptoms of the 3 patients were improved after treatment.
CONCLUSIONSIt is necessary to perform thorough spinal angiography in patients with SDAVFs to exclude another fistula. The key point in the treatment of such patients is successfully to terminate both the spinal feeder and dural branch feeder.

OBJECTIVETo study the significance of urine screening for school-age children by analyzing urine screening results of school-age children from Zhucheng City, Shandong Province, China, in 2013.
METHODSA total of 37 344 school-age children were randomly selected from children 6 to 12 years of age in Zhucheng City. Morning urine was tested by routine screening test, and the children who tested positive were re-tested after two weeks.
RESULTSThere were 2 388 children (6.39%) tested positive in the first screening, and 388 children (1.04%) tested positive again in the second screening. The positive rates in the first and second screening tests were 9.52% and 2.01%, respectively, in girls, which were significantly higher than those in boys (3.79% and 0.23%, respectively; P<0.05). Among the children who had positive test results in the second screening, 302 (0.81%) were diagnosed with urinary system diseases.
CONCLUSIONSUrine screening is an effective way for the early detection of some occult kidney diseases, which provides great benefits for early prevention and treatment of kidney diseases in children.

Chinese Journal of General Practitioners 2024;23(6):647-653
Objective:To systematically review the research hotspots and trends in the diagnosis and treatment of depressive disorder in general practice over the past 20 years. Methods:Relevant Chinese and English literature was retrieved from CNKI and the Web of Science Core Collection using search terms "general practice" "depression" "general practi*" and "depress*". The search period was from January 1, 2003, to December 31, 2022. Citespace 6.2R2 advanced edition software was used to perform a visual analysis of the annual publication volume, research institutions, authors, keywords, burst terms, and time zone map of the included literature. Results:A total of 169 Chinese and 231 English literatures were included. Over the past two decades, the number of literatures in China has grown rapidly, while overseas literatures have remained stable. Domestically, collaborations between research institutions were mainly concentrated within the same region, particularly around primary care centers and specialty hospitals in Shanghai. International collaborations were relatively more dispersed, mainly around higher education institutions and university-affiliated general hospitals in Europe and Australia, showing a more diverse form of collaboration. Keyword cluster analysis showed that domestic studies focused mainly on 11 topics such as "depression""anxiety" and "health status", while foreign studies identified 11 topics including "chronic diseases""mortality" and "depressive disorders". Keyword time zone analysis showed that previous research topics, such as the prevalence of depressive symptoms and their influencing factors, depression and quality of life in the elderly, have recently shifted to include the detection rate of mental disorders in general outpatient practice, as well as an evaluation of the role of family doctors and general care in comorbid and chronic disease management. Conclusions:Domestic research on the diagnosis and treatment of depressive disorders in general practice is increasing. The focus and frontiers of domestic and foreign research are mainly focused on the effectiveness and accuracy of screening for depressive disorder, and mental health intervention and whole-cycle management for patients diagnosed with depression.

ObjectiveTo assess the specificity of P50 auditory-evoked potential in schizophrenic patients with violent and aggressive behaviors, so as to provide objective biological markers for predicting violent behaviors of schizophrenic patients. MethodsA total of135 schizophrenic patients who met the diagnostic criteria of the International Classification of Diseases, tenth edition (ICD-10) were divided into aggressive group (n=70) and non-aggressive group (n=65) according to the assessment results of the Modified Overt Aggression Scale (MOAS), meantime, another 60 healthy individuals matched for age and gender were set as healthy group. Then the P50 auditory-evoked potentials of all selected individuals were measured using EP/EMG system (MEB-9200, Nihon Kohden, Japan). ResultsAmp S2 of the aggressive group was significantly higher than those of the non-aggressive group and healthy control group, with statistical differences [(9.86±6.04)μV vs. (7.06±3.88)μV, P=0.004; (9.86±6.04)μV vs. (7.82±3.87)μV, P=0.031]. The proportion of S2/S1 ratio ≥0.5 was 72.88%, 43.86% and 30.00% in aggressive group, non-aggressive group and healthy group, which was the highest in aggressive group, with statistical differences (P<0.01). The amplitude difference of P50 (S1-S2) of the aggressive group was lower than those of the non-aggressive group and the healthy control group, the differences were of statistical significance [(4.35±9.39)μV vs.(9.89±8.48)μV, P=0.001; (4.35±9.39)μV vs.(13.42±9.81)μV, P<0.01]. ConclusionThe violent and aggressive behaviors in schizophrenic patients may be related to the sensory gating deficit.

Objective:To compare and analyze the epidemiological characteristics of adult tibial plateau fractures in 5 provinces and cities in north China. Methods:Picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and medical record systems were used to search for clinical data of adult tibial plateau fractures which had been treated from 2010 to 2011 in 18 hospitals in 5 provinces and cities in north China (Beijing, Tianjing, Hebei Province, Shanxi Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region). The patients included were divided into 14 age groups (one age group from 16 to 19 years, every 5 years as an age group from 20 to 79 years, and one age group ≥80 years). They were also divided into 2 groups according to the Schatzker classification, a simple fracture group (types Ⅰ-Ⅳ) and a complex fracture group (types Ⅴ-Ⅵ). The gender distribution, age distribution, and complexity of adult tibial plateau fractures were compared between the 5 provinces and cities. Results:A total of 2,845 patients were included, accounting for 1.8% (2,845/155,971) of all the adult fractures, 19.5% (2,845/14,569) of tibiofibular fractures and 29.1% (2,845/9,782) of intra-knee fractures at the same period. Their average age was 45.5 years, with the age group from 40 to 44 years accounting for the largest proportion. There were statistically significant differences between the 5 provinces and cities in north China in the male to female ratio ( P<0.05) but not in the age distribution ( P>0.05). In the age groups >44 years, the proportion of female patients increased gradually, reaching 70.0% (21/30) at the age group of ≥80 years, showing statistically significant differences between them ( P<0.001). There were significant differences between the simple and complex fracture groups in the gender and age distributions ( P<0.05), but not in the mean age at fracture ( P>0.05). The male patients in the simple and complex fracture groups showed a unimodal curve which peaked at the age group from 40 to 44 years. The female patients showed a unimodal curve which peaked at the age group from 55 to 59 years in the simple fracture group but lower bimodal curves which peaked at the age groups from 35 to 39 years and from 55 to 59 years in the complex fracture group. In both fracture groups, the proportion of female patients increased steadily with age beyond the age group from 40 to 44 years, showing significant differences by the linear trend test ( P<0.001). Conclusions:Tibial plateau fractures prevailed in both males and females between 40 and 44 years old. Simple and complex fractures showed different features in terms of gender and age.
