This study was aimed to observe the clinical curative effect of Thesium Chinese tablets in the treatment of chronic bronchitis (syndrome of phlegm heat in the lung). A total of 100 cases of chronic bronchitis (syndrome of phlegm heat in the lung) were randomly divided into two groups. The control group was treated with anti-inflamma-tion, relieving cough and asthma, phlegm removing and oxygen inhalation, maintenance of water electrolyte balance and other symptomatic treatment. In the treatment group, on the basis of treatments in the control group, Thesium Chinese tablets were given at the dosage of 1.6 geach time, 3 times a day. Both groups were treated for 1 course of 10 days. The results showed that clinical symptoms and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes of quantizing integral were improved after treatment in both groups. And the therapeutic effect of treatment group was significantly better than the control group (P< 0.01). Thesium Chinese tablets can effectively shorten the time of clinical symptom improvement time, obviously improve the level of Ig among elderly patients with acute exacerbation of chronic bron-chitis, and enhance the immune function. It was concluded that the Thesium Chinese tablets can effectively improve the quality of life among patients with chronic bronchitis (syndrome of phlegm heat in the lung).

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the age, sex, etiology, diagnosis and treatment time of nasal bone fractures. METHOD: Clinical data of 202 cases with nasal bone fractures treated in the hospital were retrospectively analysed. RESULT: A total of 202 cases,163 men (80. 7%) and 39 women (19. 3%). Fifty-two patients had a relationship with alcohol consumption, and all of them were males. The most frequent reasons of the injury were fight 46. 5% (94 cases) followed by falling-down 21. 3% (43 cases), traffic accidents 19. 3% (39 cases), works related 6. 5% (13 cases), sport injuries 5. 9% (12 cases) and others 0. 5% (1 cases). Patients distribution in seasons were: spring 54 cases (26.7%), summer 42 cases (20.8%), autumn 58 cases (28.7%), winter 48 cases (23. 8%). Diagnosis of nasal bone fractures were made positively by x-ray films in 79. 7% of cases, but 100% by CT. Positive predictive value of CT was superior to that of X-ray films in the diagnosis of nasal bone fracture. CONCLUSION High morbidity of nasal bone fracture was seen in the age group of 20-29 years, and predominantly in male. Fight was found to be the main etiologic factor. We think that CT is necessary for diagnosing nasal bone fracture.

Objective · To observe the vascular structure before autogenous arteriovenous fistula (AVF) construction in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and analyze the risk factors of the pre-existing venous neointimal hyperplasia. Methods · The 8 vein samples were screened from 20 ESRD patients at their first time of the AVF construction (non-stenosis group), and the other 8 vein samples were screened from 15 ESRD patients at their at least second time of the AVF repair operation (stenosis group). Sections were prepared and stained with hematoxylin & eosin (H-E) or Masson's trichrome for observation. The intimal thickness was measured by the cellSens software, and its correlation with patients' renal function, calcium-phosphorus metabolism, iron metabolism and inflammatory reaction in the non-stenosis group were analyzed. Results · In the non-stenosis group, there were varying degrees of intimal hyperplasia in 5 (62.5%) cases, loss of endothelial cell layer in 3 (37.5%) cases, and vascular wall replacement by collagenous with atrophy or loss of muscle layer in 5 (62.5%) cases. In the stenosis group, almost all vein samples showed general thickening of the wall and 2 (25.0%) totally lost the muscle layer. Avg It of those two groups were statistically significant (P<0.01). In the non-stenosis group, both of average I/M thickness and average I/M area were negatively related to glomerular filtration rate (GFR) (P<0.05) and positively related to serum phosphorus and calcium-phosphorus product (P<0.05). Conclusion · Some apparently normal vein of ESRD patients showed varying degrees of intimal hyperplasia before AVF construction. The intimal hyperplasia had a remarkable correlation with GFR or calcium-phosphorus metabolism. Early intervention of the intimal hyperplasia prior to AVF construction may be a new prevention and control means.

Objective To investigate the status of fatigue and depression and their influencing factors in patients with acute coronary syndrome, and analyse the correlation of fatigue, depression and self-management behavior. Methods 113 patients were investigated by using Fatigue Symptom Inventory (FSI), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Coronary artery disease Self-management Scale (CSMS). Results The score of fatigue was (4.59±1.93)points, while depression scored (5.05±1.48)points and self-management behavior scored (57.29 ±8.29)points; the score of fatigue, depression of female patients were higher than that of male patients, which had statistical difference(t=2.535-5.894, P<0.05);Regression analysis showed that gender, time of illness, number of other chronic diseases were major factors affecting fatigue while gender and treatment method were major factors affecting depression; there were negative ralationships between self-management and fatigue, self-management and depression (r=-0.855-0.682). Conclusions Fatigue, depression are common in patients with acute coronary syndrome, and can affect their self-management behavior, and the female patients are more susceptible to fatigue and depression.

Objective To detect the expression level of Ang-1, Ang -2 and Tie-2 receptor mRNAs in the hemangioma tissuses and to explore the effects of Ang-1, Ang-2, and Tie-2 receptor on the angio-genesis in the hemangioma. Methods By use of semiquantinative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, we detected the expression level of Ang-1 mRNA, Ang-2 mRNA and Tie-2 mRNA in 30 cases of hemangioma (17 specimens of proliferating hemangioma, and 13 involuting hemangioma )together with 10 cases of normal skin as control, and the expression level of Ki-67 protein was also detected by an im-munohistochemica method. Results The expression of Ang-2 mRNA and Tie-2 mRNA in the prolifera-ting hemangiomas was higher than that in involuting hemangiomas (P<0.01) . The expression of Ang-1 mRNA in hemangiomas was negative. Conclusion The unbalance of Ang-Tie-2 system is probably impor-tant for the pathogenesis and development in hemangiomas.

Objective To detect 14 genes including fibrillin-1(FBN1) and so on mutations in 17 patients with Marfan syndrome(MFS) and family members of 2 patients and to investigate the correlation between FBN1 gene mutation and MFS.Methods Genomic DNAs were extracted from whole blood sample of 17 patients and 43 family members.After DNA samples were amplified by polymerase chain raction(PCR), we used capture panels to get target genes which would be sequenced by Illumina HiSeq2500 Analyzers(Illumina, SanDiego, USA).The target genes included ACTA2、CBS、FBN1、FBN2、MYH11、COL3A1、SMAD3、TGFBR1、TGFBR2、MYLK、MSTN、COLA2、TGFB2 and SLC2A10.The results of sequencing would be compared with multiple databases, including NCBI dbSNP, HapMap, 1000 human genome dataset and database of 100 Chinese healthy adults, to find gene mutation.Finally, these mutations would be validated using conventional Sanger sequencing methods.Results A total of 10 FBN1 mutations and 1 actin alpha2(ACTA2) mutation in 17 patients were identified, of which 8 FBN1 mutations and 1 ACTA2 mutation were novel.One FBN1 mutation was underwent family investigation and we found in this family, all patients had this mutation and others did not have it.Conclusion Missense mutation of c.7280G>A in the 59th exon of FBN1 gene is new pathogenic mutation for MFS.The other 8 novel mutations may be the pathogenic factors of MFS.

Objective To compare HER-2 state in breast cancer tissue deteced by fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) and analyze their correlation. Methods HER-2/neu protein expression and gene amplification were detected by FISH and IHC in 56 newly-diagnosed cases of female breast cancer from July 2008 to July 2009. Results Of the 56 patients, HER-2 protein expression (-), (+), (++), (+++) was 9 cases (16.1%), 29 cases (51.8%), 11 cases (19.6%) and 7cases (12.5%) respectively; 26 cases (46.4%) had HER-2 gene amplification while 30 cases (53.6%) didnt have. Type of HER-2 gene amplification was mainly HER-2(++) and HER-2(+++), and according gene amplification rate was 72 7% and 100%. HER-2 (+) gene amplification rate was 37.9 %(11cases) and no gene amplification was found in HER-2(-) tissue. The HER-2 positive rate using two methods had significant difference(χ2=19.778,P<0.01). HER-2(-) and HER-2(+++) had good consistency with the FISH results(Kappa=0.969),but HER-2(+) and HER-2(+ +) were poorly consistent with the FISH results(Kappa=0.271). Conclusions IHC is the preliminary screening method for detection of HER-2 expression. HER-2(-) and HER-2(+++) have good consistency with the gene amplification, and can guide clinical treatment. Some patients with HER-2(+) and HER-2(++) have HER-2 gene amplification. FISH is needed for targeted therapy.

Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of programmed cell death characterized by lipid peroxidation, oxidative stress, and dysregulated iron metabolism, plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of glaucoma. This review systematically summarizes the fundamental mechanisms of ferroptosis, the involvement of oxidative stress and ferroptosis in glaucoma, the relationship between ferroptosis and glaucomatous neurodegeneration, and the potential therapeutic strategies targeting ferroptosis in glaucoma. Studies have shown that ferroptosis-regulating factors play a crucial role in mitigating oxidative damage and preserving cellular function. However, the complexity of their regulatory mechanisms not only hinders a comprehensive understanding of their roles but also impedes clinical translation. Although ferroptosis inhibitors have demonstrated promising neuroprotective effects in animal models, their clinical application remains challenged by issues such as drug safety and target specificity. Therefore, the development of more targeted and low-toxicity therapeutic strategies is essential to advance personalized and precise treatment for glaucoma.

Digital polymerase chain reaction ( PCR) has been experiencing a rapid development during the past few years. Comparing with the traditional real-time quantitative PCR ( RT-qPCR) , using the same primer and probe, the accuracy for the absolute quantification of target gene is significantly improved. The development of digital PCR is directly related to the development of microfluidics. The integrated fluid circuit is an early combination of the microfluidics and digital PCR, which has a complicated fabrication process with high cost. Recently, researchers are trying to apply the droplet microfluidics in digital PCR, and the droplet microfluidic chip is able to generate millions of droplets within a short time. Each of these droplets containing no more than one target gene is a reaction chamber during the amplification process. After amplification, each droplet is tested to achieve the absolute quantification of the target gene. This paper reviews the recent progresses of droplet digital PCR, and the applications of droplet digital PCR in biological, medical and environmental fields.

AIM: The aim of this work is to investigate the protective effects of Ginsenoside Rb 1(Rb 1) on apoptosis induced by hypoxia /hypoglycemia and reoxygenation in cultured rat hippocampal neurons. METHODS: Apoptosis were measured by flow cytometry; Morphological changes and neuronal necrosis were examined under microscope; The leakage of lactic dehydrogenase(LDH) and the product of nitric oxide(NO) were measured. RESULTS: hypoxia /hypoglycemia cultures for 5 h and reoxygenation induced neuronal apoptosis and necrosis,and significantly increased the leakage of LDH and the product of NO. The effects were enhanced with the extending time of reoxygenation. Rb 1 could significantly decrease the percentage of neuronal apoptosis and necrosis, and reduce the leakage of LDH and the product of NO. CONCLUSION: Rb 1 had an effect of anti-neuronal apoptosis. This effect might be related to the inhibition of the activity of NO synthase and NO production.
