Objective:To observe the histological character of distraction osteogenesis(DO) in the mandible of goat using an intraoral tooth-supported distraction device. Methods:8 goats (7-9 months of age) were divided into 4 groups with 2 goats per group. After a bilateral mandibular corticectomy between the second and third premolars, self-produced intraoral tooth-supported distraction devices were cemented. 5 days after operation, the distraction devices were begun to be activated 0.25 mm every 12 hours to advance the anterior segment 8 mm in 16 days. The animals of 32 days group were injected with tetracycline fluorescence labeing at 10 ml/kg once perweek from the beginning of DO.The animals were sacrificed on day 8,16,32 and 48 separately post activation, and tetracycline fluorescence labeling,HE staining and Mallory's 3-color staining were performed. Results:Tetracycline fluorescence labeling showed that there was green-yellow fluorescence labeling new bone within the distraction gap; HE and Mallory's trichrome staining showed that new bone gradually formed from bilateral sides, gradually blending and remodeling. The fiber bundles and newly formed trabeculas and various cells in early phrases showed to be orientation-directed along the axis of distraction force. Conclusion: New bone can be formed and regenerated along the axis of distraction force within the distraction gap.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of microwave polymerization and water-bath heat polymerization on accuracy and flexural strength of denture base resin. METHODS: Ten maxillary complete dentures were prepared and divided into microwave polymerization and water-bath heat polymerization groups according to random number table, with 5 dentures in each group. In the microwave polymerization group, the dentures were heated for 9 minutes with 40% firepower, natural cooled, the pressure of flasking at 4.5 kg/mm~2. In the water-bath heat polymerization group, the temperature increased from room to 70℃, sustained for 1.5 hours, then rise to 100℃ for 0.5 hour. The dentures were maintained at 25℃ thermostatic water bath for a week. The denture base, as well as standard cast was cut down at posterior border of the second molar. Dimensional accuracy between the posterior border of upper complete denture and standardized cast at five different positions was measured by digital microscope. Specimens with 64 mm× 10 mm×2.5 mm were made for measuring flexural strength.RESULTS: ①The posterior border gaps between the upper complete denture and standardized cast was (141±78) urn and (147±74) μm cured by microwave polymerization and water-bath heat polymerization, which has no statistical difference. The flexural strength of denture base resin cured by the microwave polymerization and water-bath heat polymerization was (81.60±14.04) MPa and (84.24±17.65) MPa, and there was no statistical difference (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: There is no significantly difference in the accuracy and flexural strength cured by microwave polymerization and by water-bath heat polymerization, but the microwave polymerization takes shorter time than that by water-bath heat polymerization.

Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 1986;0(03):-
AIM:To study the changes of ?-adrenoceptors in peripheral lymphocytes at different stages of asthma. METHODS:?-adrenoceptors in peripheral lymphocytes, cAMP and cGMP levels in blood plasma were measured by radioligand binding assay and radioimmunoassay.RESULTS:Bmax and Kd of ?-adrenoceptors in asthma at remission stage were markedly higher than that in normal subjects, while cAMP levels in blood plasma were not different between them. Bmax of ?-adrenoceptors and cAMP levels in blood plasma in asthma at acute exacerbation stage were significantly lower than that in normal subjects, Kds between these two groups were not much different. There was no correlation between ?-adrenoceptors, cAMP and cGMP levels in blood plasma and ventilatory functions.CONCLUSIONS:Changes of ?-adrenoceptors in asthma rather be a pathological change accompanied by the course of the disease than a primary defect.

Objective: To study the effects of TNF, IL-1 and IL-6 on bone resorption in cultured calvaria of newborn mice. Methods: Calvaria of newborn mice was cultured and exposed to TNF, IL-1 or IL-6 at various dosages for 48 hours (treated grooups), or without the above agents(control). Calcium concentration in culture medium was determined by atomic absorption spectrum apparatus. The calcium concentration of the treated groups versus that of the control was used as the absorption index. Results: The absorption indexes in the medium of treated groups were 1.92~3. 14 or 1. 85 ~ 3. 34 when the bone was exposed to TNF or IL-6 at 10 ~ 320 ng/ml, those were 1.36 ~ 2.32 when the bone was exposed to IL-1 at 2~64 ng/ ml. Conclusion: TNF, IL-1 and IL-6 may stimulate bone resorption of calvaria in newborn mice.

Objective To explore the effects of gap junctional(GJ)proteins in pathogenesis of cerebral schistosomiasis, through observing the expression of gap junctional proteins Cx37 mRNA in cultured cerebral arterial endothelium incubated with soluble eggs antigen(SEA). MethodsCerebral artery endothelial cells of rabbits were incubated with SEA, and the experiments were divided into control group and SEA 1 - 5 groups (SEA concentrations were 10.0% ,5.0% ,3.3% ,2.5%,2.0%, respectively), reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blotting were used to examine the expression of Cx37 mRNA and protein in cerebral artery endothelial cells of rabbits, respectively. Results Cx37 mRNA levels of control and SEA 1 - 5 groups were 0.239 ± 0.037, 0.260 ± 0.043, 0.218 ± 0.310, 0.647 ± 0.040, 0.419 ± 0.036, and 0.513 ± 0.038, respectively;SEA 3 - 5 groups were higher than control group of mRNA levels(all P< 0.05). Cx37 protein levels of control and SEA 1 - 5 group were 0.401 ± 0.045, 0.485 ± 0.048, 0.749 ± 0.052, 1.119 ± 0.063, 1.015 ± 0.057 and 0.605 ±0.047, respectively, of which SEA 2 - 5 groups were higher than control group(all P < 0.05). ConclusionsExpression levels of Cx37 mRNA and protein in cultured cerebral artery endothelial cells incubated with SEA are higher than those of control cerebral artery endothelial cells, which suggests that the gap junction proteins may play an important role in pathogenesis of cerebral schistosomiasis through SEA and its secretion in infiltration of brain tissue and deposition in the cerebral arteries.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the objectivity and comprehensiveness of Response Evaluation Criteria of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Solid Tumor (Draft, REC-TCM-ST) in application of Chinese medicine therapeutic effect in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
METHODSA retrospective clinical research was used in 104 NSCLC patients in stages of III-IV, 53 cases were in Chinese medicine (CM) group and 51 cases were in Western medicine (WM) group. The therapeutic effect of the two groups was evaluated with both REC-TCM-ST and Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumor (RECIST). Kaplan-Meier method was used to analyze the survival time. Kappa test method was used to test the consistency of the two kinds of evaluation results.
RESULTSAccording to REC-TCM-ST, the effective rate on relieving tumor mass in the CM group was significantly lower than that in the WM group (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference in tumor-mass stable rate (P>0.05); the symptom of weakness in the CM group was improved significantly, indicating better therapeutic effect than that in the WM group (P<0.01). Karnofsky score in the CM group was significantly better than that in the WM group (P<0.01). In terms of survival conditions, the median survival time and the survival rate of 6 months, 1 year and 2 years of the CM group were higher than the WM group. The total effective rate was 9.62%, and the total stable rate was 72.12% for 104 cases according to RECIST; while the total effective rate was 34.62%, and the total stable rate was 84.62% according to REC-TCM-ST, thus there were significant differences between the results of the two criteria (P<0.01), and there was also some consistency between them, but not satisfactory.
CONCLUSIONSREC-TCM-ST was used to evaluate the therapeutic effect of CM in the treatment of advanced NSCLC, which shows that its evaluation results can better reflect the advantages and disadvantages of CM, and the effectiveness of CM is more objective and comprehensive than RECIST, so REC-TCM-ST is worthy of further improvement and clinical expansion.
