Objective To investigate the efficacy of radio-frequency disc nucleoplasty and chemonucleolysis with collagenase for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. Methods Eighty patients with lumbar disc herniation were treated by nucleoplasty combined with chemonucleolysis using collagenase(1200 U) in our hospital from January 2002 to January 2007.Results The patients were re-examined in 2 weeks,4 weeks and 6 months after the operation.According to the modified MacNab criteria,62 patients achieved excellent outcomes,10 were good,6 were fair, and 2 were poor. The rate of excellent and good outcomes were 90%(72/80).No serious complications occurred in this series. Conclusion Radio-frequency disc nucleoplasty and chemonucleolysis with collagenase are minimally invasive and effective for lumbar disc hernia.

Objective To study the Value of low dose CT scanning with gas-contrasted and low window level in diagnosing gastro-colon lesions. Methods 126 cases suspected with gastro-colon lesions were randomly devided into two groups, group A(69 cases) were scanned with conventional water-contrast or non-contrast and conventional expose dose, and with conventional window level, group B(57 cases) were scanned with gas-contrasted and low expose dose, and using low window level. The images were evaluated by 2 experienced radiologists, the results including doctor's self-confidence and diagnostic accurate rate in both group A and group B were compared based on the endoscopic results. Results The diagnostic self-confidence of radiologists and the accurate rate in evaluating the lesions in group B were obviously superior to group A.Conclusion CT scanning of gastro-colon with gas-contrasted,low expose dose and low window level is markedly superior to conventional one.

Objective:To assess the effect of rosiglitazone on inflammation in peritoneal dialysis patients. Methods:Fifty patients undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis were collected in our hospital. The treatment group was assigned to receive regular peritoneal dialysis and rosiglitazone 4mg once daily while the control group was received regular peritoneal dialysis for 12 weeks. Such serum examinations as fasting blood glucose (FBG), glycosylated hemoglobin A1c, haemoglobin, serum total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides and high sensitivity C reactive protein (hs-CRP) were measured, tumor necrosis factorα(TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels were measured by ELISA, and homeostasis model as-sessment of insulin resistance( HOMA-IR) was also evaluated before and after the treatment. Results:After the 12-week treatment by rosiglitazone, the levels of FPG, HOMA-IR, hs-CRP, TNF-αand IL-6 were declined significantly(P<0. 05), and the level of HDL-C was increased significantly(P<0. 05). Conclusion: Rosiglitazone shows significant anti-inflammatory, insulin resistance improve-ment and anti-lipidemic effects in peritoneal dialysis patients.

Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is a chronic cholestic autoimmune liver disease and ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is the first-line drug for the treatment.Currently there are several standards applied for the prognostic and therapeutic predictions of PBC,as well as for the guidance of personalized treatment. This paper elucidated the prognostic predicting factors in PBC and their applications in therapy monitoring with UDCA.Current challenges and future research interests are also put forward.

BACKGROUND:intervertebral disc degeneration can reduce nucleus pulposus cells, and peroxiredoxin II involved in the regulation of resist oxidation damage, cell division, differentiation, signal transduction and apoptosis.Peroxiredoxin Ⅱ has promotive effect on intervertebral disc degeneration, whereas the mechanism remains poorly understood.OBJECTIVE:To observe the effects of perexiredoxin Ⅱ on human intevertebral disc cells activity and type Ⅱ collagen synthesis in vitro.METHODS:Human degenerated human lumbar disc cells were cultured in vitro, and assigned into the control and peroxidase Ⅱ groups.Peroxidase Ⅱ with doses of 10,100 and 1 000 ng/L were added into the peroxidase Ⅱ groups. The cells were identified by immunohistochemical staining, and the cell proliferation was detected using cck-8 kit.Cell supematant was collected at days 3 and 7 after operation, and the expression of type Ⅱ collagen was measured by double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:In vitro cultured human degenerative lumbar intervertebral disc nucleus pulposus cells by adding peroxidase increased with the dose-Ⅱ,the disc nucleus pulposus cells of the volume and type Ⅱ collagen synthesis gradually reduced(P < 0.01).Tips peroxidase Ⅱ on the intervertebral disc nucleus pulposus cells, the number and type Ⅱ collagen synthesis significantly inhibited in a dose-dependent manner. Thus speculated that peroxidase Ⅱ on the nucleus pulposus cells in vitro may lead to disc degeneration as a precipitating factor.

Praseodymium hexacyanoferrate film was modified on the graphite electrode by cyclic voltammetry in the solution of PrCl_3 and K_3Fe(CN)_6. Its electrochemical properties, including the influence of different scan rates, ions, and K~+ concentrations on the film, were studied. The membrane was characterized by IR and XPS. In IR spectrum, the vibration of cyano group verified from the formation of the film on the electrode. In XPS spectrum, the splitting of Fe2p_(1/2) )and Fe2p_(3/2)) showed that the valence of iron has been changed in the film formation, and a proper electropolymerization mechanism was put forward. The results showed the PrHCF film have some electrocatalytic activity to the oxidation of cysteine. The detection conditions for cysteine such as the potential and pH were also discussed.
