ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical significance of serum bone turnover indicators in diagnosis of elderly women with osteoporosis.MethodsOne hundred and twenty-eight cases of elderly women with osteoporosis were divided into bone loss group (46 cases),osteoporosis group (54 cases) and severe osteoporosis group(28 cases) according to degree of osteoporosis.Selected physical examination in 45 cases of elderly women as control group.Serum bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (B-ALP),osteocalcin (BGP),tartrate resistant acid phosphatase (TRACP5b) and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels were detected using immunological method,and determination of bone mineral density (BMD).ResultsCompared with those of control group,BGP and B-ALP of bone loss group,osteoporosis group and severe osteoporosis group was significantly increased [ (25.88 ± 10.21 ),(21.59 ± 8.67 ),( 19.15 ± 7.35 ) μ g/L vs.(9.55 ± 4.05 ) μ g/L and( 181.25 ± 11.84),( 186.25 ± 15.84),( 190.38 ± 21.24) U/L vs.( 150.55 ± 10.05) U/L] (P ＜ 0.01 or ＜0.05).PTH of bone loss group and osteoporosis group was significantly higher than that of control group [ ( 63.79 ± 21.94 ),(58.89 ± 12.03 ) ng/L vs.(43.66 ± 19.66 ) ng/L ] ( P ＜ 0.05 ).B MD of osteoporosis group and severe osteoporosis group was significantly less than that of control group [ (0.64 ± 0.25 ),(0.61 ± 0.43) g/cm2 vs. (0.98 ± 0.11 ) g/cm2 ] (P ＜ 0.01 ).TRACP5b in bone loss group and severe osteoporosis group was significantly higher than that of control group [ (5.48 ± 0.98),(5.25 ± 1.06) U/L vs.(2.75 ± 1.35) U/L) ](P ＜ 0.01 or ＜ 0.05).Conclusions Serum bone turnover indicators such as B-ALP,BGP,TRACP5b and PTH are effective in auxiliary diagnosis of elderly women with osteoporosis.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the protective effects of the ethanol extract of Radix et Rhizoma Gentianae on acute lung injury (ALI). METHODS: 48 NIH male mice were randomized into blank group (normal saline), model group (normal saline), dexamethasone acetate group (0.005 g?kg-1), ethanol extract of Radix et Rhizoma Gentianae groups (high-dosage of 10 g?kg-1, medium dosage of 5 g?kg-1 and low dosage of 2.5 g?kg-1). The groups were administered via i.g gtt once a day for five days. ALI model was induced by intratracheal injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 2.5 mg?kg-1) after last treatment. ELISA method was applied to determine the content of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), interleukin-10 (IL-10) and cycloxygenase-2(COX-2) at 24 h after modeling. Objective To explore the relationship between syndrome differentiation of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and pattern of visual evoked potential (P-VEP).Methods One hundred and eighty-six eyes from 104 cases of DR were allocated to three groups according to TCM syndrome:qi-yin deficiency (Group A),qi stagnation and blood stasis (Group B) and yin-yang deficiency (Group C).P-VEP induced by various space frequency (0.388?Hz,1.55?Hz) and pictures of various colors (black/white,red/magenta,blue/green) was observed in the three groups and compared with that in the normal control group (Group D).Results One hundred and three eyes in Group A mainly manifested as simple DR,47 eyes in Group B and 36 eyes in Group C mainly manifested as proliferative DR.The latency of P 100 was prolonged and the amplitude was decreassed in all groups of DR,but the latency of P 100 was much prolonged in Group B,the amplitude was much decreased in Group C and the changes were less in Group A.Conclusion P-VEP varies in different TCM syndrome types of DR,and determination of P-VEP under various stimulating conditions may serve as an index of syndrome differentiation of DR.

Objective To analyze the performance of adsorbing CO2 with zeolite 5A molecular sieve in crew module. Methods Fitting analysis was based on experimental data of adsorbing CO2,O2 and N2 with zeolite 5A molecular sieve and the suitability of isotherm adsorbing equation of Langmuir,Freundlich and BET models to be conducted with Origin software. Then using obtained equations and competitive adsorbing theory,the adsorbed amounts of these three kinds of gas under competitive condition were calculated. Results The constants in equations for adsorbing CO2,O2 and N2 with zeolite 5A molecular sieve were determined,and adsorbed amounts for above three kinds of gases under competitive condition were calculated. Conclusion The adsorbed CO2 amount is affected by high fraction of N2. Therefore zeolite 5A molecular sieve should be modified technically so that its adsorption in N2 might be reduced to an ignored amount.

Objective To investigate the relationship among peroxisome proliferators - activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ), pul-monary arterial systolic pressure(PASP) ,and insulin resistance in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients. Methods A-mong 63 COPD patients, 30 patients with level of PASP above 40mmHg were enrolled in PAH group and other 33 patients were enrolled in COPD group. Twenty healthy medical examination subjects were enrolled in control group. The expression of PPAR-γ, mRNA was detected by real time fluorescent quantitative RT- PCR. Radioimmunoassay was used to measure the level of fasting plasma insulin (FIN). Fasting plas-ma glucose (FPG) was detected by glucose oxidase method. Results The expression of PPAR-γ mRNA was significantly decreased in PAH and COPD group, while FPG, FIN and IRI increased significantly. PAH group had more increased PASP, decreased expression of PPAR-γ and higher IRI than COPD group. Expression of PPAR-γ was negatively related to PASP and IRI. Conclusions The significantly down reg-ulated expression of PPAR-γ maybe explain the higher FPG and PASP.

Objective To compare the results of manually -tested speech recognition threshold (SRT ) with automatically software -recorded SRT in the trial of Mandarin disyllabic test ,exploring the significance to the clini-cal applying .Methods 128 normal people of different ages without hearing loss and 57 workers exposed to noise in an automobile manufacturing was selected .These two group of volunteers speak mainly Mandarin in their daily life . MADSEN Conera (Danmark) clinical audiometr was applied .A group of double syllable word list with the same dif-ficulty of equivalence was used as test material .The initial presentation level was 20 dB HL higher than PTA .Then compared the results of manually -tested SRT with automatically software -recorded SRT .Results In the normal group ,the automatic value SRT was 7 .84 ± 3 .98 dB HL ,the manual value was 9 .19 ± 4 .47 dB HL ,and the average value of speech frequency threshold was 7 .63 ± 5 .78 dB HL .In the noise group ,the automatic value SRT was 6 .10 ± 8 .40 dB HL ,the manual value was 18 .81 ± 9 .52 dB HL ,and the average value of language frequency threshold was 27 .18 ± 19 .13 dB HL .There was significant difference between the values of SRT tested manually and recorded automatically (P<0 .01) .Conclusion There are differences between SRT valued manually and automatically .The SRT in people with normal hearing can be tested using automatic -recorded method .This method is convenient for screening in people without hearing loss .To exam in people with hearing loss ,the manual test is more appropriate .

The most radiation exposure for children arises from the medical process, and due to their characteristics such as relatively immature,organ development,they are more sensitive to the radiation than a-dults,and have higher risk of radiation related diseases,so medical radiation exposure should not be ignored.

Objective To investigate reasonable surgical approaches for lower spine injuries.Methods The study involved 174 patients with lower cervical spine injuries treated with anterior approaches, posterior approaches, or anterior-posterior approaches in our hospital from August 2005 to September 2009. American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) grading system was used to evaluate the surgical outcome. Results All patients were followed up for average 30 months (6-55 months), which showed that bone union was achieved in 169 patients, with no breakage, loosening or displacement of the internal fixators. There were five deaths. The ASIA grades of 125 patients were improved by 1 or 2 levels ( 1.12levels on average), with an improvement rate of 71.3%. Conclusion Comprehensive and accurate preoperative diagnosis is the basis for choose of correct surgical approaches for lower spine injury. Early and correct surgery is essential for a good prognosis.

Objective To explore the expression of livin and survivin and its correlation with caspase-3 and clinicopathology in breast cancer. Methods We examined paraffin-embedded archival specimens from 76 cases of malignant breast tumor and 17 cases of benign breast disease for the expression of livin,survivin and caspase-3 with immunohistochemistry. The relationship of livin and survivin expression with caspase-3 and clinicopathological characteristics was analyzed. Results The positive rates of livin and survivin protein expression were increased gradually in normal breast tissues,livin and survivin proliferating disease,preinvasive carcinoma and invasive breast carcinoma,while the caspase-3 protein expression was significantly decreased. The expression of livin and survivin was negatively correlated with that of caspase-3 in the four groups (P0.05). The expression of survivin was related to lymph node metastasis and tumor size (P0.05). Conclusion Livin and survivin may play an important role in accelerated tumor proliferation by inducing caspase-3 to inhibit apoptosis in breast carcinoma. Livin may be more correlated with carcinogenesis in young patients while survivin may promote metastasis and invasion in breast carcinoma.

ABSTRACT:Objective To investigate the differential gene expression of nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell line CNE-2 and CNE-2R exposed to X-rays.Methods We used neutral comet assay to detect the intrinsic radiosensitiv-ity of tumor cells,immunofluorescence to detect the phosphorylated histone γH2AX and Rad5 1 foci formation and to assay the time-dose effects on cell radiation injury and radiation radiosensitivity change after irradiation.The dif-ferential gene expression was screened with cDNA microarray by DNA damage repair related gene chip.Differenti-ally expressed proteins screened were confirmed by Western blot.Results After 2 h of 4 Gy 9MeV-β-ray irradia-tion,CNE-2R cells had aggravated DNA damage compared to CNE-2 cells and the damage was more obvious with the prolongation of time.It suggested that cell DNA damage severity was more obvious.The immunofluorescence showed the positive rates ofγH2AX cells in CNE-2 cell line were higher than those in CNE-2R cell line.There were 37 different genes related to DNA damage repair in CNE-2 cell line compared with CNE-2R cell line,while 24 up-regulated and 13 down-regulated genes were found in SiHaR cells.In them,there were 6 genes whose ratios were 6 times higher and 3 genes whose ratios were lower than 0.1.Western blot verified the results of four differentially expressed proteins compared with CNE-2 cells,in which GADD45a and RRAD1 expression levels were significantly lowered in CNE-2R while the RAD9a and RCF2 protein significantly increased.Conclusion The radioresistance of CNE-2R cells is significantly related to DNA damage repair capacity in certain mutations at the gene level.It is possible to regulate cell radiosensitivity by regulating the related gene.
