Acta Medicinae Universitatis Scientiae et Technologiae Huazhong 2001;30(2):175-177
The changes in shape, structure and function of red blood cells (RBC) after cold storage were observed by using slow cold storage technique. Before and after cold storage, RBC mean corpuscular volume (MCV), RBC fragility (RF), whole blood viscosity (WBV), RBC deformity (RBCD), LFU, SatO2, hematocrit (HCT), RBC recovery rate (RBCRR) and RBC immune function were measured. The result showed that after resuscitation, RBC had vital resistance to hypotonic solution. There was no significant difference in MCV, RBCD and LFU (P>0.05). HCT and WBV were decreased and RBCRR reached 84.1 %(all P<0.01). SatO2 was increased from 30.5 % to 98.2 %. RBC immune function showed no significant difference (P>0.05). It was suggested that quality of RBC didn't change after cold storage and RBC could be cryopreserved for a long time.

The efficiency of cold storage red blood cells (CSRBC) or whole blood at -80 degrees C used in 27 Rh (D) negative patients during surgical operation was reported. The Rh (D) negative patients received the transfusion of CSRBC or whole blood stored at -80 degrees C for 180 to 360 days. The changes in the indexes, such as blood TB, DB, K+, Na+, BUN, Cr, urine protein (URPO), UOB, Hb, HCT, serum total protein, relative to hemolytic reaction and blood volume before and after transfusion were observed. The results showed that after transfusion of CSRBC or whole blood 27 cases were negative for urine protein and UOB, and the levels of BUN and Cr were normal (P > 0.05). Blood TB, DB, Hb, and HCT were increased, while pH, blood K+ and blood Na+ was normal with the difference being not significant before and after operation (P > 0.05). Plasma protein was decreased, but there was no significant difference before and after operation (P > 0.05). It was suggested that CSRBC or whole blood at -80 degrees C could be safely infused to the Rh(D) negative patients without side effects during the surgical operation.

The impact of hypofunction of kidney on evaluating of islets β cell function in patients with type 2 diabetes was investigated. 635 type 2 diabetic patients with normal liver function were grouped using Cockcroft-Gault. Following the decrease in kidney function, blood C-peptide concentration was increased with decreased urinary exeretion of C-peptide(P<0. 05). It is proposed to pay an attention to renal function while evaluating islets β cell function in the patients.

Objective To compare the value of abdominal aorta occlusion and internal iliac artery ligation in preventing massive bleeding during surgical treatment of complex acetabular fractures. Methods The study enrolled 67 cases of complicated acetabular fractures,of which 35 had control of hemorrhage via abdominal aorta blockage and 32 via internal iliac artery ligation.Intraoperative bleeding and postoperative drainage volumes were compared of the two operations. Results Of the two operations to control hemorrhage, abdominal aorta occlusion was significantly different from internal iliac artery ligation with regard to amount of blood loss [(648.00 ± 170.20) ml vs (231.18 ± 21.90) ml,t =1.693,P < 0.05],but there was no significant difference between abdominal aorta occlusion and internal iliac artery ligation in postoperative drainage volume [(1 631.50 ± 675.50) ml vs (236.00 ±23.80) ml].Conclusion During surgical treatment of complex acetabular fractures, abdominal aorta occlusion is superior to internal iliac artery ligation in preventing bleeding and can be safe and effective for the fact that the bilateral common iliac arteries are occluded completely for a clear operation field.

Journal of Clinical Hepatology 2016;32(5):1013-1017
Cholesterol is a component of cell membrane and plays a vital role in maintaining metabolism and normal functions in human body. Liver X receptor (LXR) is a nuclear receptor expressed in abundance in the liver. It influences the process of cholesterol metabolism through regulating the synthesis, transformation, and transportation of cholesterol and bile acid at the level of hepatocytes, and therefore, it plays an important role in maintaining cholesterol homeostasis in human body. In addition, LXR can inhibit the intestinal absorption of dietary cholesterol, reduce exogenous cholesterol level and total cholesterol level in human body, and prevent hypercholesterolemia and formation of gallstones. This article summarizes the mechanism of action of LXR in regulating cholesterol metabolism at both liver and intestinal levels.

Objective To analyze the results of serum makers of transfusion-related infectious diseases in Hubei Province and the surrounding areas,in order to understand the patient′s infection status, thereby avoi-ding or reducing medical disputes, and providing reference data for the prevention and treatment of transfu-sion-related infectious diseases, especially AIDS and syphilis. Methods 60 570 pretransfusion patients from 2011 to 2016 in Hubei Province and surrounding areas were selected as the study group.Meanwhile,19 800 pretransfusion patients from 2001 to 2003 in Hubei Province and surrounding areas were selected as control group.Chemiluminescence detection was used to examine human immunodeficiency virus (HIV),hepatitis B virus (HBV),hepatitis C virus (HCV) and treponema pallidum (TP) serum markers.Different period pre-transfusion patients′infection status, route of transmission and distribution characteristics of transfusion-re-lated infectious diseases were compared. Results In the study group,44 cases (0.07%) were HIV positive, and there was no statistical difference compare with the control group (P>0.05);1 091 cases were TP posi-tive (1.80%),7 607 cases were positive for HBV (12.56%),and 1 062 cases were HCV positive(1.75%), and there were statistically significant differences compared with the control group (P<0.05).In addition, there were 8 cases of HIV and TP double infection,10 cases of HIV and HBV double infection,4 cases of HIV and HCV double infection;3 cases of HIV,T P and HBV triple infection,4 cases of HIV,T P and HCV triple infection,1 case of HIV and HBV,HCV triple infection in the study group;and compared with the control group,it showed an increasing trend (P<0.05).Conclusion The status of transfusion-related infectious dis-eases in Hubei Province and surrounding areas is still severe. Some patients have been infected with HIV,TP, HBV or HCV before hospitalization, and a few have even had double or triple infection.Clinic should further strengthen the prevention and control of transfusion-related infectious diseases, especially for HIV and TP, and reduce the spread of transfusion-related infectious diseases in the general population.

Objective:To evaluate the clinical effect of anterior clinoid process grinding in the treatment of ophthalmic / superior clinoid process aneurysms and sellar tumors. Methods:The clinical data of 16 patients who underwent anterior clinoid process grinding in Sanbo Brain Hospital, Capital Medical University from January 2015 to July 2021 were analyzed retrospectively. There were 1 patient with recurrent craniopharyngioma, 1 patient with recurrent pituitary adenoma, 13 patients with aneurysms, and 1 patient with suprasellar granulosa cell tumor combined with ophthalmic aneurysm of right internal carotid artery. The Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score was used to evaluate the situation at discharge and in the medium-and-long term. Results:Sixteen patients underwent anterior clinoidprocess grinding. At discharge and the latest follow-up, the mRS scores of the patients were 0-2. A total of 15 aneurysms were treated, and there were no symptoms of visual loss or visual field defect after operation. No cerebrospinal fluid leakage occurred in all patients. Conclusions:The grinding of anterior clinoid process can effectively and fully stretch the optic nerve and internal carotid artery, and can observe the tumor neck at the lower end of pituitary stalk and the ocular segment/superior clinoid process of internal carotid artery under direct vision. It is one of the important auxiliary methods for the treatment of sellar lesions.
