Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture at affected-limb gallbladder meridian points and its effect on the recovery of lower limb function in treating hemiplegia patients with cerebral infarction. Methods Sixty hemiplegia patients with cerebral infarction were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups, 30 cases each. The treatment group received acupuncture at the gallbladder meridian points of the affected-side lower limb as main therapy and the control group, conventional acupuncture. After two courses of treatment, a pre-/post-treatment change in the Lower Extremity Fugl-Meyer Assessment score was observed in the two groups and post-treatment walking paces, pace lengths and incidences of strephenopodia were compared between the two groups. Results There was a statistically significant pre-/post-treatment difference in the Lower Extremity Fugl-Meyer Assessment score in the two groups (P<0.01). There was a statistically significant post-treatment difference in the Lower Extremity Fugl-Meyer Assessment score between the treatment and control groups (P<0.05). There were statistically significant post-treatment differences in walking pace, pace length and the incidence of strephenopodia between the treatment and control groups (P<0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture at affected-limb gallbladder meridian points can improve lower limb function and reduce the incidence of strephenopodia in hemiplegia patients with cerebral infarction.

Objective Neonatal sepsis (NS) is one of the main causes of neonatal death.Immune therapy is an important way in the comprehensive treatment of NS.This study investigated several databases in order to find the clinical evidence for the immunological treatment of neonatal sepsis (NS),and to explore its clinical application value. Methods Systematic reviews and randomized (or quasi-randomized) controlled trials (RCT) for immunological treatment of NS in newborn infants were searched from the databases of MEDLINE,EMBASE and Cochrane Library. The relevant literatures were statistically analyzed. Results Six systematic reviews (including 37 RCTs) were found to be involved in the therapy, and the drugs included intravenous immunoglobulin (containing high level of IgM),antistaphylococcal immunoglobulins, neutrophile granulocyte, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor,granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor, pentoxifylline and glutamine.Pentoxifylline could decrease the mortality (Z =2.71,P =0.006 8),shorten the hospitalization (Z =2.01,P =0.044),and reduce the incidence rate of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) (Z =1.67,P =0.095) of the NS infants. No therapeutic effect was found for other drugs in the treatment of NS.Conclusions Current clinical evidence for the immunological treatment of NS indicates that only Pentoxifylline could decrease the mortality, reduce the incidence rate of NEC and shorten the hospitalization of infants with NS.However, current evidence is only a small scale sampling and lacks multicenter studies.Researchers are encouraged to undertake large scale and well-designed multicenter trials to confirm the effectiveness of the immunological treatment of NS.

0.05).Our results showed that, for recommended oral doses of ciprofloxacin and moxifloxacin,44.2% of E.coli isolates from the intestine of the health population, and 29.5%,18.7% and 10.7% of isolates from the three sterile sites of the patients, would be selected as resistant mutants. When ciprofloxacin and moxifloxacin were taken by injection route, the ratio of the selection of resistant mutants would be 9.3% for E.coli isolates from the intestine of the health population and 8.2%,6.2% and 8.9% for the three sterile sites of the patients, respectively. The maximum attainable concentration of levofloxacin in serum showed little distinction between the oral and the other routes.CONCLUSIONS The values of MIC and MPC of three fluoroquinolones in E.coli isolates from different populations and sites show no association. The values of MPC couldn't be predicted by the MIC.The values of MPC and MPC90 of three drugs show no significant discrepancy for tested isolates, these E.coli strains are isolated from the intestine of heath persons, and from the blood, ascites, bile of patients.

Objective To explore the relationship between hormone therapy (HT) in women withovarian malignancy and prognosis. Methods HT was used in 31 patients with ovarian cancer after surgery, and 44 eases with ovarian eaneer served as controL The expression of estrogen receptor (ER)α, ERβ andprogesterone receptor (PR) was detected by immunohistoehemieal staining respectively. The level of serumealeitonin and transforming growth factor α (TGFα) was detected by radio-immune and enzyme-linkedimmunosorbent assay pre- or post-surgery, as well as half a year to one year later post-surgery respectively inthese eases. The survival curve of Kaplan-Meier and log-rank test as well as scale risk of Cox model wereused to analyze the relationship between HT and prognosis of ovarian cancer. Results ( 1 ) The results oflog-rank test showed that there was no difference in survival curve of patients with or without HT [ (1108±52), (1086±43) d; P=0.940] ; the results of scale risk of Cox model also showed that HT was not anindependent prognosis factor for patients with HT. (2) There was no relationship with HT and theaccumulated survival in patients with either positive or negative expression of ERa, ERβ and PR in tissue;as well as between HT and the level of serum TGFα pre-, post-surgery, or half a year to one year aftersurgery. (3) The level of serum caleitonin in patients without HT post-surgery half a year to one year laterwas higher than that pre-surgery [ (141±13), (95±11) μg/; P<0.05], but there was no significantdifference between patients with HT half a year to one year later past-surgery and pre-surgery [ (90±18)μg/L, (93±14) μ/L; P>0.05]. (4) There was a significant difference in body and emotion function between HT and without HT groups [(1.84±1.50), (1.45±0.82); (12.69±10.20), (12.90±11.61); P<0.05], as well as in sex quality and autonomic nerve maladjustment and in the special listmade [(1.05±0.74), (1.77±1.08); (10.10±3.21), (13.09±4.30); P<0.05]. ConclusionsThere is no adverse influence on prognosis in using of HT for patients with ovarian cancer after surgery. HTfor patients with ovarian cancer post-surgery can help keep a stable level of scmm calcitonin as well asimprove the quality of life.

Objective To summarize the clinical characteristics of children with Kawasaki disease (KD) in pediatric intensive care unit(PICU). Methods Medical record of children with KD at PICU were collected. At the same time,29 cases of KD in PICU were 1∶3 matched by age, gender and the time admitted in hospital with those admitted in general pediatric department(control group). Results PICU patients had longer length of hospital stay, longer fever duration compared with control group. In addition, patients in PICU had higher neutrophil percentage,C reaction protein, creatinine, urea nitrogen,N ̄terminal natriuretic peptide and procalcitonin, but lower hemoglobin, blood platelet and albumin compared with the control group. What′s more, patients in PICU tended to find hemoglobin<100 g/L,platelet<150×109/L,albumin<30 g/L,abnor ̄mal in urine routine and echocardiographic and more likely to have fever longer than 10 days when used intra ̄venous immunoglobulin(IVIG) compared with control group. And PICU patients were more likely to require therapy with antibiotics, albumin, glucocorticoid and the second dose of IVIG. Some part of children in PICU group were treated with IVIG and glucocorticoid because of doubted severe infection before KD diagnosed, all patients in the control group used IVIG after the diagnosis. Conclusion Patients who admitted in PICU are severe and not typical in clinical manifestation. These patients are easily misdiagnosed as sepsis and more likely to be IVIG ̄refractory and have coronary artery damage. We still worry that somebody might be misdi ̄agnosed as sepsis, who are treated with IVIG and get better. Because they are not diagnosed as KD,these pa ̄tient would not followe up like KD,but have potential risk of cardiovascular disease and need more alarming.
