Objective:To observe the effect of “One Coat Bond” on the interface between amalgam restoration and cavity wall used in bonded amalgam restoration(BAR).Methods:Dentin cavities were made on 15 healthy human premolars extracted for orthodontics therapy. The teeth were divided into 3 groups with 5 in each group. In group A compressive air was used to dry the cavities(dry adhesion) whereas in group B absorbent cotton was used (wet adhesion). Then the cavity walls in the two groups were treated with the “One Coat Bond”, the cavities were filled with freshly prepared amalgam before adhesive concrete. In group C cavities were filled directly with amalgam without treatment of cavity walls. Morphology of amalgam restoration/“One Coat Bond” adhesive/dentin cavity wall interface was observed under SEM, thickness of adhesive and width of space between amalgam restoration and cavity wall was measured. Results:Average width(?m) of space between restoration and cavity wall was 4.82 in group A, 0 in group B and 11.33 in group C(P0.05).Conclusion:“One Coat Bond” adhesive can significantly improve the compactness between amalgam and cavity wall.

BACKGROUND:Nano-size inorganic filling greatly improves mechanic characteristic of composite resin. However, its effects on pulp tissue remain unclear.OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the biocompatibility of FiltekTM Z350 nano-composite resin on dog pulp tissue by means of histology observation.DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:Randomized control animal experiment was performed at the animal experiment center of Fuzhou General Hospital,Nanjing Military Area Command of Chinese PLA from April 2007 to April 2008.MATERIALS:Sixty healthy teeth from three adult male beagle dogs were recruited in this study.METHODS:Buccal Class V deep cavities were prepared in beagle dogs, which were then divided into four groups at random.FiltekTM Z350 resin,Dyract AP compomer and TPH resin were used to restore the cavities in three testing groups and glass ionomer cement was used as control. All cavities were treated with Clearfil SE BOND before filling.Intact healthy teeth were used as blank control.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:The pulp condition of each tooth was studied histologically. The remaining dentine thickness of each cavity was measured.RESULTS:After 7 days, mild inflammatory response was observed in most of the specimens. After 30 and 90 days, normal histological characteristics were observed in almost all specimens except TPH resin group. The histological structure disturbance of dentin cell layer emerged in some specimens of TPH group, which was higher than other testing groups(P 0.05).CONCLUSION:FiltekTM Z350 nano-composite resin has similar biocompatibility as Dyract AP compomer and glass ionomer cement, better than TPH resin.

To evaluate the automated segmentation algorithm for detection of intra - retinal layers to process images obtained from ultra- high resolution optical coherence tomography ( OCT ) . Graph theory and the shortest path search based on dynamic programming were applied to automatically segment the 8 intra - retinal layers. We experimentally verified the accuracy and reliability of the algorithm. The results showed that the intra-retinal layer boundaries between automated and manual segmentations matched well. The algorithm successfully segmented the intra- retinal layers in glaucoma, high myopia, and retinitis pigmentosa patients. The proposed automatic segmentation for intra-retinal layers provides a promising tool for quantitative analysis in clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Exosome is a self-secreted phospholipid bilayer nanovesicles, and has shown great potential in drug delivery field due to the important advantages of low immunogenicity and homologous targeting. Phototherapy, mainly includes photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT), utilize light to activate photoactive drug for tumor cell killing. The advanced therapeutic strategy shows low toxic side-effect and non-invasion precise advantages, and thus has made great progress in tumor treatment over the past few years. Therefore, using exosomes as a drug delivery system to deliver phototherapeutic agents can improve therapeutic performances with a reduced side-effect, and further enhance their application potential for clinical tumor therapy. This review focus on the rising cross-subjects field involving exosomes and phototherapy, and mainly introduce the research progress and relative case of exosomes-based delivery system for cancer phototherapy. Additionally, the advantages and challenges of exosome-based phototherapy are also discussed and proposed.

OBJECTIVETo explore the mechanisms involved in the ligustrazine alleviation of the pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH) in patients of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) associated with chronic cor pulmonale (CCP) during exacerbation.
METHODSSeventy patients of COPD and CCP with acute exacerbation were randomly and equally divided into control group and treatment group. The control group received standard treatment with antibiotics, antiasthmatic and expectorant medications, and oxygenation; and the ligustrazine treatment group received ligustrazine treatment (80 mg/d; i.v.; for 2 weeks) in addition to the standard treatment. Before and at the end of 2 week treatment, the clinic responses of the two regimens were evaluated, plasma levels of endothelin-1 (ET-1) and nitric oxide (NO) were determined; arterial oxygen partial pressure (PaO2, mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP), outflow tract of right ventricle (RVOT), and internal diameter of right ventricle (RV) were measured.
RESULTSGood clinic benefits were achieved in both the standard and ligustrazine regimens, plasma level of ET-1, values of mPAP, RV and RVOT decreased significantly, plasma level of NO and PaO2 values decreased (all P < 0.01 vs pre-treatment to all parameters). Compared with the control group, ligustrazine greatly enhanced the clinic efficacy from 77.1% to 97.1% (P < 0.05), and also resulted in more significant changes of all these parameters (P < 0.01 vs control group for all parameters). For both groups, the levels of plasma ET-1 were positively correlated with values of mPAP, RVOT, and RV (r = 0.710, 0.853, and 0.766, respectively, all P = 0.000), and negatively correlated with plasma NO and PaO2 (r = - 0.823, and - 0.752, respectively, all P = 0.000).
CONCLUSIONLigustrazine is effective in treating pulmonary artery hypertension during acute exacerbation of COPD and CCP in patients from the plateau area. The observed changes in the plasma levels of NO and ET-1 in response to ligustrazine treatment suggest that ligustrazine may act through the selective effect on pulmonary blood vessels to enhance the synthesis and release of NO and suppress those of ET-1 from lung vascular endothelial cells, thus reducing pulmonary artery pressure and decreasing pulmonary arterial hypertension.
