Objective To investigate the kinetic changes of inflammatory cell infiltration and thyroid autoantibodies in the development of iodine-induced autoimmune thyroiditis in NOD.H-2~(h4)mice.Methods Either 128 five-week-old NOD.H-2~(h4)mice or 128 Kunming mice were randomly divided into two groups, and received plain water or water containing 0.05% sodium iodide. At the time points of 1,2,4,8,12,16,and 24 week after receiving iodinated water, mice were anesthetized by diethyl ether and bled from eye socket vein, and their thyroid glands were collected.Indirect ELISA method was used to measure the levels of serum thyroglobulin autoantibodies (TgAb)and thyroid hormone. After being fixed with paraformaldehyde and embedded in paraffin, thyroid sections were stained with HE and used for morphometrieal analysis. Results In the iodine treated group of NOD.H-2~(h4) mice, autoimmune thyroiditis was observed as early as 1 week after they began receiving indinated water. The prevalence as well as the degree of autoimmune thyroiditis reached the maximum at 12 weeks and remained until 24 weeks.Serum TgAb level increased after 8 weeks of iodine ingestion in NOD.H-2~(h4) mice, then increased steadily throughout the 24 weeks of experiment. On the contrary, serum TgAb was not increased in the control group of Kunming mice. Conclusion Iodine may induce and exacerbate lymphocytic infiltration of the thyroid in genetically susceptible NOD.H-2~(h4) mice, and serum TgAb is just a marker of autoimmune thyroiditis.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the correlation between airborne pollen concentrations and symptoms in patients with pollen allergic rhinitis.
METHODSDurhum sampler was used to collect the pollen concentration and species from June to September in 2011. The clinical skin prick test (SPT) data were analyzed. The patients with pollen allergic rhinitis were divided into pure pollen allergic rhinitis group (pollen group) and pollen combined perennial allergens allergic rhinitis group (combined group). Symptom scores of patients were assessed, and correlation between pollen concentration and onset of symptoms of patients were analyzed. SPSS 16.0 software was used to analyse the data.
RESULTSWhile the peak of Summer-Autumn pollen concentration appeared from August 20 to September 15, the major pollen included Artemisia L, Chenopodium album and Humulus scandens. The peak of pollen concentration in one day reached 638/1000 mm(2). The patients taken SPT from June to September accounted for 51.9% of the patients in whole year, among which SPT pollen positive patients were 1509, 60.7% of all SPT positive patients. The amount and rate of SPT positive patients showed significant correlation with pollen concentration(r value were 0.90 and 0.99, both P < 0.05). Onset of symptoms in two groups was correlated with pollen concentration in Summer-Autumn. Symptoms of cough in combined group showed more severe compared with patients with pollen group (t = 2.36, P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSPollen concentration has a major effect on onset of symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Airborne pollen monitoring has important preventive and therapeutic significance on patients with allergic rhinitis.

AIMTo investigate the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1alpha) in rats with chronic pulmonary hypertension induced by hypoxia and hypercapnia and its relationship with nitric oxide(NO).
METHODSFourty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups, normal control group (NC), hypoxia-hypercapnia group (HH), hypoxia - hypercapnia + L-arginine liposome group(HP) and hypoxia-hypercapnia+ N-nitro-L-arginine methylester group (HM). Colorimetric analysis, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization were used for detection of NO, HIF-1alpha and constitutive nitric oxide synthase (ecNOS).
RESULTS(1) The mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) and the weight ratio of right ventricular to left ventricle plus septum (RV/(LV + S)) of HH group were higher than those of NC group (P < 0.05), HP group much lower than HH group (P < 0.01), mPAP of HM higher than HH group ( P < 0.05). 2)0 Contents of NO in plasma and pulmonary tissue homogenates of HH group were much lower than those of NC group (P < 0.01), HP group higher than HH group (P < 0.01). There were no difference between HM group and HH group. (Expression of HIF-1alpha and HIF-1alpha mRNA in pulmonary arterioles of HH group were significantly higher than those of NC group( P < 0.01), HP group lower than HH group (P < 0.01) ,HM group higher than HH group (P < 0.01); Whereas expression of ecNOS and ecNOS mRNA in pulmonary arterioles of HH were lower than those of NC group( P < 0.05, IP group higher than HH group (P < 0.01), HM group lower than HH group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONHIF-1alpha is involved in the pathogenesis of chronic pulmonary hypertension induced by hypoxia and hypercapnia. The protective function of NO in the pathogenesis might be partly depended on its effects on the expression/activity of HIF-1alpha in lung.
