1.The relationship between intracellular chloride concentration and ischemia reperfusion-induced arrhythmias in myocardial cells.

We investigated the effects of simulated ischemia on intracellular Cl- concentration ([Cl-]i) in guinea pig ventricular myocardial cells and possible role of the [Cl-]i on the ischemia/reperfusion-induced arrhythmias in perfused rat hearts. Our results provided direct evidence that the [Cl-]i in ventricular muscle was increased under ischemic conditions, which suggested that activation of the Cl-(-)HCO3- exchanger by ischemia would partially contribute to the elevation of [Cl-]i. Application of stilbene derivatives or lowering Cl- concentration in perfusion solution delayed the onset of ischemia-induced deterioration in action potentials, pHi, [Cl-]i, and suppressed the incidence of ischemia/reperfusion-induced arrhythmias. The conclusion was made to emphasize the important role of intracellular Cl- homeostasis in cardiac physiology and pathogenesis of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury.

3.Diagnostic significance of differential cell count in induced sputum to chronic cough

Objective To explore the diagnostic significance of differential cell count in induced sputum to chronic cough and assessment of airway inflammation.Methods The sputum of 335 chronic cough patients were induced.Differential cell counts were measured in these samples.The side effects were observed during the induced procedure.The final diagnosis was made based on clinical manifestation and examination findings including pulmonary function tests,provocation test,induced sputum cell differentials, etc.Results The cause of chronic cough was defined in 322 patients.The six most important causes of cough were typical asthma(TA,n=84),eosinophilic bronchitis (EB,n=62),atopic cough (AC,n= 42),cough variant asthma (CVA,n=40),gastroesophageal reflux cough(GERC,n=37),rhinitis and/ or paranasal sinusitis (PNDs,n=32),and others and indefinite cause (n=25,13).Percentage of eosinophils were significantly increased in the induced sputum of AC,EB,CVA,and GERC patients (0.005,0.052,0.059,0.234) compared with those in other causes and the healthy controls (0) (P
4.EFFECT OF r-IRRADIATION ON THE METABOLISM OF ASCORBIC ACID

Guinea pigs were given orally with a daily dose of 0.5 mg ascorbic acid per 100 g body weight 20 days before and 4 days after a whole-body r-irradiation and then injected subcutaneously with 10 mg ascorbic acid at 24 hours intervals. During the injection period, the daily urinary output of total ascorbic acid in the animals irradiated with 500 or 1000 r was significantly higher than that in controls, but the difference of 24 hours excretions of total ascorbic acid between the group irradiated with 150 or 250 r and the control group was not statistically significant.As shown in the urinary output of dehydroascorbic acid and diketo- gulonic acid estimated by our modified Roe's method, r-irradiation has no effect on its excretion in guinea pigs and rats.The levels of ascorbic acid in plasma, spleen and adrenals were significantly lower in the irradiated group than in the control group, but might increase with the increase of the injected dose of ascorbic acid.
5.Determining the primary site of metastatic adenocarcinoma in serous fluid: a cytological study.

OBJECTIVETo explore cytological parameters that may identify the primary sites of metastatic adenocarcinomas in serous fluid.
METHODSSerous fluid specimens from 89 cases of metastatic adenocarcinomas (40 metastatic adenocarcinomas of lung, 6 metastatic adenocarcinomas of breast, 21 metastatic ovary adenocarcinomas, 22 metastatic gastrointestinal and pancreatic adenocarcinomas) were studied by using multiple morphologic parameters. Immunocytochemical S-P method was used to detect the expression of CA125, CA199, SPB and TTF-1 in 75 cases.
RESULTSMetastatic adenocarcinomas of different primary sites displayed certain different morphologic features, including the total amount of tumor cells, size of clusters, ratio of clusters over single cells, configuration of tumor clusters and the background of the smear. Cell clusters of small to medium sizes represented 95% and 100% in the metastatic adenocarcinomas of lung and breast, respectively. Most of the ovarian metastatic adenocarcinomas (85.7%) presented some large cell clusters and larger amount of cells, whereas certain metastatic gastrointestinal and pancreatic adenocarcinomas (45.5%) presented smaller number of cells and predominantly to be single cell in distribution (40.9%). Psammoma bodies were found in metastatic adenocarcinomas of lung and ovary. SPB and TTF-1 expression supported the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of pulmonary origin. CA125 expression supported an ovarian origin. Although CA199 was seen in all groups of metastatic adenocarcinomas, nevertheless, its appearance in tumor cells in ascitic fluid specimens supported gastrointestinal and pancreatic origins.
CONCLUSIONMorpho-logic features of the cytological smear, immunohistochemical staining and clinical history are equally important in determining the primary sites of metastatic adenocarcinomas in serous fluid.

6.Dietary patterns and its influencing factors among freshmen students in college

Objective To investigate the dietary pattern in college freshmen students and to analyze the influencing factors on their dietary patterns. Methods A questionnaire survey on situation of dietary pattern and influencing factors was conducted among 1319 freshmen students.Results Four major dietary patterns were noticed and they were: Ⅰ , high consumption in hamburger,fried food, nuts, biscuit, chocolate, cola, coffee, sugars, Ⅱ, high consumption in pork, mutton, beef,poultry meat, animal liver, Ⅲ, high consumption in fresh fruits, eggs, fish and shrimps, kelp laver and sea fish, milk and dairy products, beans and bean products, Ⅳ, high consumption in rice and grain,fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, pork. Risk factors on dietary pattern were presented as follows: ( 1 )boys: having the food pattern Ⅰ and Ⅱ showed a strong positive association with the place where they live (OR= 1.67, 95%CI: 0.87-3.19; OR= 1.51,95%CI: 0.79-2.88), eating place (OR=1.63,95%CI: 1.O3-2.59; OR= 1.83, 95%CI: 1.04-3.23), level of mother' s education (OR=2.52,95%CI: 1.07-5.95; OR=3.38, 95%CI: 1.50-7.63), family income (OR=2.24, 95%CI: 1.30-3.88;OR=3.06, 95% CI: 1.77-5.29) and the status of passive smoking (OR= 1.80, 95%CI: 0.70-4.59;OR=1.83, 95%CI: 0.75-4.45). Inverse correlations was found on the level of mother's education (OR=0.56,95%CI: 0.17-1.79). The food pattern Ⅳ showed a strong positive association with place of eating(OR= 1.83,95%CI: 1.04-3.23) but having an inverse correlation with the level of mother's education (OR=0.56, 95%CI: 0.17-1.79). (2)girls when compared with boys, the food pattern Ⅰ showed minor association with the places of living and eating; while the food pattern Ⅱ and Ⅲ had minor association with the status of passive smoking. Conclusion Socio-demographic factors and lifestyle had influenced on the dietary patterns among college freshmen students who should be guided to have a reasonable, balanced diet in the college.
7.Primary study on absorption, translocation and accumulation of N, P and K of Achyranthes bidentata.

OBJECTIVETo study the absorption, translocation and accumulation of N, P and K on Achyranthes bidentata.
METHODThe contents of N, P and K were determined by mean of sulfuric acid-hydrogen peroxide assimilating method, vanadium-ammonium molybdate colorimetric method and flame photometric method, respectively.
RESULTThe contents of N, P and K in the plant were decreasing during the growth period. The absorption rates of the three nutrients by A. Bidentata showed double-peak curves in the whole growth period, maximum absorption rate appeared in the middle ten days of October. About 8.59 kg of N, 1.36 kg of P and 7.40 kg of K were needed to produce each 100 kg root.
CONCLUSIONThe key nutrients absorption period is in the first ten days of September and in the middle ten days of October.

8.The comparison of clinical manifestation of organophosphorus pesticide poisoning (OPP) between oral exposure and occupational exposure in field work.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the differences of clinical manifestation and therapy of organophosphorus pesticide poisoning (OPP) between oral exposure and occupational exposure in field work.
METHODSFrom July 2007 to July 2010, 85 patients with acute severe OPP were treated in a hospital, which were divided into oral poisoning group (51 cases) and non-oral poisoning group (34 cases). The differences of clinical manifestations, curative effects and prognosis between two groups were compared.
RESULTSThe rates of myoclonus and ataxia in cases with moderate poisoning of oral poisoning group were 86.4% and 90.9%, which were significantly higher than those (50.0% and 55.0%) of non-oral poisoning group (P<0.05 or P< 0.01). The rates of myoclonus, lung fluid and coma in cases with severe poisoning of oral poisoning group were 100.0%, 89.7% and 93.1%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those (71.4%, 64.3% and 50.0%) of non-oral poisoning group (P<0.05). The mean detoxification hours in cases with moderate poisoning and cases with severe poisoning of non-oral poisoning group were (35.0 +/- 6.2) and (45.0 +/- 11.1) hours which were significantly lower than those [(49.0 +/- 7.7) and (77.0 +/- 10.3) hours] in cases with moderate poisoning and cases with severe poisoning of oral poisoning group (P<0.05). In 24, 48 and 72 h after treatment, the cholinesterase (ChE) activities of non-oral poisoning group were higher than those of oral poisoning group (P< 0.05 or P<0.01). The used doses of pyraloxime methylchloride (PAM-Cl) or atropine and the used total dose of atropine in non-oral poisoning group were lower than those in oral poisoning group (P<0.05 or P<0.01).
CONCLUSIONSThe clinical manifestation of non-oral poisoning group is different from the clinical manifestation of oral poisoning group due to the high morbidity of OPP occurred at field site in summer. The used doses of atropine and PAM-Cl are less and the ChE activity recovers quickly for non-oral poisoning group.

9.An epidemiologic study of cough in young college students in Guangzhou.

OBJECTIVETo study the prevalence of cough and its risk factors in young college students in Guangzhou.
METHODSUsing a questionnaire with uniform scheme, a cluster-randomized sampling survey was conducted among young college students in Guangzhou. Fluoroscopy of chest was performed in subjects with persisted cough longer than 8 weeks.
RESULTSThere were 1087 cases with complete data from 1091 people including 648 males, 439 females with an average age of 21.16 years old. The total prevalence of cough was 10.9%. Difference in prevalence of cough between males and females showed no significance (10.3% vs. 11.9%, P > 0.05). There were also no significant differences between male and female in prevalence rates of acute cough (6.9% vs. 8.7%, P > 0.05) and chronic cough (3.4% vs. 3.2%, P > 0.05). Under chronic cough condition, cough was more likely to be the only or major symptom than under acute cough condition (77.8% vs. 44.6%, chi(2) = 11.166, P < 0.01). Nasal disease was an important risk factor to the development of chronic cough, which was found in 33.3% of the patients with chronic cough and when having chronic nasal diseases.
CONCLUSIONCough seemed a common disorder in young college student in Guangzhou and there was no significant difference in prevalence between males and females. Nasal disease was an important risk factor to chronic cough.

10.Molecular mechanism of HCV NS5A on p53's inhibition of AFP expression in hepatocellular carcinoma cells.

OBJECTIVETo explore hepatitis C virus (HCV) non-structural protein 5A (NS5A)'s influence on inhibition of AFP expression executed by p53 protein and its possible molecular mechanism.
METHODSPlasmid transfection and MEIA were employed to observe p53's inhibitive effect on AFP expression of Huh7 cells and the HCV NS5A's influence on p53 function. Western blot was employed to find out if HCV NS5A affects p53 protein expression and GST pull down assay was applied to examine the interaction between HCV NS5A and p53.
RESULTSThe AFP concentration in the supernatant of the culture of the Huh7 cells transfected with pRc/CMV was (14322+/-2412) ng/ml, and that of the Huh7 cells transfected with pCNS5A was (13843+/-3218) ng/ml; no significant difference existed between these two groups (t = 1.42, P > 0.05). After transfection with pC53-NS3, the AFP level was decreased to (10 241+/-1326) ng/ml, and in comparison to the above two groups it had a statistically significant difference (t values were 2.41 and 2.38, P < 0.05). When co-transfected with pCNS5A and pC53-NS3, the AFP expression (14582+/-1238) ng/ml returned to the level of pRc/CMV transfected, and there was a remarkably significant difference between this and that of the pC53-NS3 transfected cells (t = 3.12, P < 0.01). HCV NS5A had no function on the p53 protein expression with Western blot experiment. In the GST pull down assay, an HCV NS5A protein band was found after GST-p53 was added, but not detected with GST only.
CONCLUSIONWe found that p53 has an inhibitive function on the AFP expression in Huh7 cells and HCV NS5A minimized this p53 function. HCV NS5A did not affect p53 protein expression, but was able to form a complex with p53, by which HCV NS5A inactivated this p53 function.
