2.Progress in research of adenosine and its biological products in ophthalmology
Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2011;29(9):857-860
Adenosine is an important biological substance in the body. It exists extensively in intracellular and extracellular tissues. In physiological condition, adenosine remains at very low level intissue. However, under stress such as inflammation, ischemia, hypoxia, trauma, or pain etc. the adenosine concentrationwill be elevated dramatically, indicating that adenosine participates in multiple histopathological processes. Adenosine is a natural chemical messenger that binds to four subtypes( A1, A2A, A2B, A3 ) of adenosine receptors and by that, it regulates multiple kinds of physiological functions. Studies found that adenosine plays an important role in the central nervous system, cardiovascular system and coagulation system. In recent years, adenosine has been seen as an attractive option to improve the treatment of glaucoma and retinal diseases. The effects of adenosine in ophthalmology were as follows: adjusting intraocular pressure, inhibiting retinal angiogenesis, dilating retinal blood vessels, regulating retinal nerve conduction, protecting retinal photoreceptors and ganglion cells, arresting the inflammatory response. This article discusses the research progress in adenosine and its receptors as well as biological products of adenosine and projects the application of adenosine in ophthalmology.

Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 2015;35(9):1061-1064
Objective To evaluate the effect of dexmedetomidine on heart rate (HR) of rabbits through in vitro and in vivo experiments, and investigate the mechanism by which dexmedetomidine lowered HR.Methods In vitro experiment Healthy adult rabbits of both sexes, weighing 2.0-2.5 kg, aged 8-10 weeks, were studied. The 24 isolated hearts passively perfused in a Langendorff apparatus were randomly divided into 3 groups (n =8 each) using a random number table: control group (group C) , and dexmedetomidine 3 and 30 ng/ml groups (D1 and D2 groups). The isolated hearts were continuously perfused with K-H solution for 45 min in group C.After 15 min of equilibration, the isolated hearts were perfused for 30 min with K-H solution containing dexmedetomidine 3 and 30 ng/ml in D1 and D2 groups, respectively. At 15 min of equilibration, and at 15 and 30 min of perfusion with K-H solution containing dexmedetomidine, HR and left ventricular systolic pressure (LVSP) were recorded. In vivo experiment Twenty-five healthy adult rabbits of both sexes, weighing 2.0-2.5 kg, aged 8-10 weeks, were randomly divided into 5 groups (n=5 each) using a random number table: dexmedetomidine 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 μg/kg groups (D3, D6, D9, D12, D15groups), to receive the corresponding doses of dexmedetomidine which was intravenously infused over 10 min.HR and mean arterial pressure were monitored and recorded before administration (T0) , and at 15 and 40 min after administration (T1,2).The correlation between doses of dexmedetomidine and change rate of HR was tested by Spearman correlation analysis. Results In vitro experiment Compared with group C, no significant changes were found in HR and LVSP at each time point in D1 and D2 groups (P>0.05).In vivo experiment Compared with those at T0 , HR at T1 in D6 and D9 groups, HR at T1,2 in D12 and D15 groups, and mean arterial pressure at T1,2in D6, D9, and D12 groups were significantly decreased (P<0.05) , and no significant change was found in HR at each time point in group D3 (P>0.05).The correlation coefficient between doses of dexmedetomidine and change rate of HR was 0.944 (P<0.05).Conclusion The mechanism by which dexmedetomidine lowers HR of rabbits is not related to direct inhibition of sinoatrial nodes, but associated with the balance of autonomic nervous system.

Chinese Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2016;31(12):899-902
Objective To analyze the potential risk factors of infantile spasms (IS) relapse through following up the respondents with IS after different treatment protocols. Methods Sixty-nine cases were collected in the Department of Pediatric Neurology,Jiangxi Children's Hospital from May 2011 to September 2013,who had complete cessation of spasms for at least 28 days or more after the different treatment protocols. The follow-up was performed on these patients until spasms seizure relapse or at least 1 year for those without recurrence.According to the literature review,8 possible risk factors of IS recurrence (gender, age of onset, course of diseases, etiology, high irregular types of electroencephalogram, development quotient, onset time, treatment protocols) were selected, and then Logistic multiple regression was used to analyze the relationship of various potential risk factors with the relapse of spasms. Results (1) The recurrence rate at 6 months and 12 months were 40.6% (28/69 cases)and 43.5 % (30/69 cases),respectively.(2) Among the various potential factors, the age at onset and the time to response were closely related to the IS recurrence.Namely, the non-classic onset(early-onset and late-onset) of IS were more likely to relapse than the classic onset[66.7% (14/21 cases) vs 33.3% (16/48 cases),x2 =6.605,P =0.010];the responders beyond 1 week were more likely to relapse than those within 1 week[63.6% (14/22 cases) vs 34.0% (16/47 cases),x2 =5.341,P =0.021].There were significant differences between the 2 groups (all P < 0.05).(3) Logistic multiple regression analysis demonstrated that age at onset (Wald =3.603) was most closely related to the relapse of spasms. Conclusions (1) The relapse rate of IS in children was high, and the majority of them relapsed within 6 months. So a long-term,rational and effective clinical management solution should be explored.(2) The age at onset and the time to response are very important risk factors of the IS recurrence, and the former was more significant. So,early diagnosis and early treatment are more likely to improve the efficacy of IS,and reduce the risks of recurrence and improve the prognosis.

Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology 2016;43(17):770-774
Tumor cell plasticity, including epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) and its reverse program, mesenchymal to epithe-lial transition (MET), regulates circulating tumor cells and carcinoma metastasis. Twist is overexpressed in rhabdomyosarcoma, breast cancer, gastric cancer, and other tumors. Twist, as a transcriptional factor, cross-talks with multiple signaling pathways, forming a com-plex network to participate in the regulation of EMT/MET in circulating tumor cells, which in turn promotes metastasis of tumor cells. Therefore, monitoring the level of Twist and epithelial–mesenchymal phenotypic molecules is important as it may be beneficial for in-creasing the detection ratio of circulating tumor cells as tumor biomarkers and for evaluating the effects of anticancer drugs.

ObjectiveTo investigate the efficacy of combined therapy of mild hypothermia and hibernation to treat severe brain injury. Methods24 patients with severe brain injury were randomly divided into combined therapy group and normothermia group. Glasgow Coma Scale scores of all the patients were in the range of 3 to 8. No later than 10 hours after their injury, hypothermia patients were given half dosage of No.1 hibernation cocktail and had been cooled by cooling blankets to 32℃-34℃ (rectal temperature) for 5 days, then to 35℃ for 24 hours, and slowly increased to their normal level. 3 days and 7 days after their admission, intracranial pressure, creatine phosphate kinase, partial pressure of arterial O2 and CO2, platelet and Na+,K+ were measured.7 days after their admission, Glasgow Outcome Scale scores of each patient and mortality of each group were measured. ResultsThe mortality of combined therapy group(25.0%) was significantly lower than that of normothermia group (66.6%,P<0.05). The decreased values of intracranial pressure, creatine phosphate kinase and platelet number of combined therapy group were all significantly higher than that of normothermia group respectively (P<0.05). There were no significant difference in mean artery pressure, blood electrolyte, and partial pressure of arterial O2 and CO2 between these two groups(P>0.05). ConclusionThe combined therapy of mild hypothermia and hibernation can effectively reduce the mortality of patients with severe brain injury as it is much easier, less invasive and with less complications.

Microbiology 1992;0(03):-
The strain of DG7 isolated from the oilwater sample in DAGANG oilfield could produce surfactant ?acids and gas in the culture medium in which the diesel was sole carbon source .The strain was Gram-negative, motive, rod and growed facultatively in the 0 to 18.5% NaCl. Based on its characters, the strain was identified as a member of the genus Aeromonas, but there were some differences between this strain and the described species of this genus in some biochemical features, suggesting that it could be a new species of the genus.
