To study time and dose related changes after gamma knife radiosurgery (GKR) in rat brain, right caudate nucleuses of rats were irradiated by OUR XGD gamma units. The maximum dosages of 20,50,75 and 160Gy were given using a 4 mm collimator. HE, Nissl, Luxol fast blue staining and immunohistochemistry were utilized to observe histological changes.Histological changes in the right caudate nucleuses such as microvessel injury, which appeared as telangiectasia, vasodilatation, vessel wall thickening and edema, and astrocyte changes, which appeared as hypertrophy and proliferation, were observed at various time points after GKR. These findings demonstrate time dependent and dosage dependent changes are found in normal cerebral tissue after GKR. These results provide an explanation of the process taking place during the latent period before delayed radiation necrosis develops.

Objective To examine the characteristics of affective intensity and cognitive emotion regulation in subjects with borderline personality disorder ( BPD) . Methods The BPD subscale of personal-ity disorder questionnaire( PDQ-4+) was used to assess the BPD symptoms, the short affective intensity scale (SAIS) and cognitive emotion regulation questionnaire (CERQ) were used to measure affect intensity and cognitive emotion regulation strategy, respectively. 765 subjects with BPD and 776 healthy controls were se-lected. The independent-samples t test was used to analyze the differences between BPD group and controls and logistic regression analysis was used to examine the related factors affecting the BPD. Results Com-pared with the control group(negative intensity:(3.08±0.66),negative coping dimension:(37.20±5.94), BPD group got higher scores in negative intensity((3.88±0.74), t=22.29, P<0.01,Cohen''s d>0.8)and negative coping dimension((44.77±6.36), t=24.16, P<0.01,Cohen''s d>0.8). The logistic regression anal-ysis showed that negative intensity(B=1.38,Exp(B)=3.97,95%CI for EXP(B):3.15~5.00, P<0.01) and negative cognitive regulations strategy(B=0.19,Exp(B)=1.21,95% CI:1.18-1.25, P<0.01) could affect the prevalence of BPD. Conclusion Subjects with BPD traits have more significant negative affective inten-sity and tend to use negative cognitive regulations strategy.

Objective To test the potency of hepatitis B vaccine in China. Methods Two inbred strains(DBA/1 and BALB/c) and two NIH closes-colonies of mice were typed in the H-2 region by microcy-totoxicity method and PCR. Groups of mice of the tested strains were immunized with the same hepatitis B vaccine, the titre of anti-HBsAg antibody was analyzed by microplate, and the ED50 was then estimated by Karder method for each strain. Results Significant differences were found between potency estimates de-rived from assays using different strains of mice. Conclusion It is likely that the variation of immune re-sponse to hepatitis B vaccine in mice is correlative with the H-2 haplotype. In some special case, the bet-erozygosity in H-2 region found in NIH stock could influence the accuracy in such testing even a reference preparation of hepatitis B vaccine was used. Base on our experiment, to select an appropriate NIH stocks with the H-2q haplotype for potency testing of hepatitis B vaccine in China.

Hypercoagulability state is the result of the interplay of genetic predisposition and risk factors. Many key enzymes and reactions in coagulation and anti-coagulation system are involved. Hereditary antithrombin deficiency is one of the major risk factors of venous thromboembolic disease (VTE), whereas hyperhomocysteinemia may also play a role. This article reviews the recent researches on the contributions of these two factors to VTE.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the protective effect of Shenfu Injection against ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury due to pancreas transplantation in rats, and explore its possible mechanism.
METHODSSix normal SD rats with sham operation were taken as the normal control group, 24 steptozozin-induced diabetic SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups, with 6 in each group. Except I/R group, the rats in the other groups were intravenous injected with Shenfu Injection (SF,10 mg/kg), Hongshen Injection (HS, 9 mg/kg) and Fuzi Injection (FZ 1 mg/kg) respectively at the day and 30 minutes before pancreas transplantation performed in the SF group, HS group and FZ group, respectively. At the same time, rats in the normal control group and in the I/R group were intravenously injected the same volume of normal saline. The blood glucose was detected before and after reperfusion, and 2 hours later after reperfusion, the contents of serum nitric oxide (NO) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), the concentrations of malondialdehyde (MDA) , superoxide dismutase (SOD) , and myeloperoxidase (MPO) in the transplanted pancreas tissues were detected. The cell apoptosis of the transplanted pancreas tissue was determined by TUNEL, and the bcl-2 and Bax protein expression was determined by Western blot.
RESULTSAfter reperfusion, the levels of blood glucose and TNF-alpha decreased and the concentration of NO increased in the SF group, HS group and FZ group, compared with those in the I/R group. The activity of SOD, bcl-2 expression and the ratio of bcl-2 and Bax were higher, while the content of MDA, the activity of MPO, apoptotic indexes, and Bax expression were lower in the SF group, HS group and FZ group than those in the I/R group.
CONCLUSIONShenfu Injection can protect L/R injury due to pancreas transplantation in rats, the possible mechanism may be related to promoting activity of SOD, increasing synthesis of endogenous NO, decreasing the excretion of TNF-alpha, alleviating conglutination and aggregation of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) in pancreas, as well as up-regulating Bcl-2 gene expression and down-regulating the Bax gene expression.

National Journal of Andrology 2011;17(8):717-721
OBJECTIVETo investigate the relationship between the level of sex hormones and the loss of bone mass in aging male rats.
METHODSThirty male Sprague-Dawley rats were equally divided into five age groups and sacrificed at 35, 70, 160, 700 and 800 postnatal days (PD) , followed by measurement of the % Tb x Ar, Tb x Th, Tb x N and Tb x SP by bone histomorphometry and detection of the levels of serum testosterone (T) and estradiol (E2) by radioimmunoassay. The relationship between the changes of the T and E2 levels and those of bone histomorphometry was analyzed.
RESULTST and E2 levels were closely correlated with the bone mass in the aging male rats. The changes in T and E2 levels were simultaneous with those in the bone mass with the growth of the rats. T, E2, % Tb x Ar and Tb x N reached the peak in the 70 and 160 PD groups, and markedly decreased in the 700 PD group except Tb x Th and Tb x SP. The T levels in the 35, 70, 160, 700 and 800 PD groups were (118.53 +/- 18.35) ng/dl, (345.49 +/- 54.63) ng/dl, (368.83 +/- 60.03) ng/dl, (61.15 +/- 21.12) ng/dl and (60.35 +/- 19. 27) ng/dl, changing simultaneously with the E2 levels, which were (10.35 +/- 1.82) pg/ml, (16.92 +/- 3.13) pg/ml, (17.20 +/- 2.51) pg/ml, (5.87 +/- 2.34) pg/ml and (5.53 +/- 2.48) pg/ml, respectively. The metrological parameters of the bone structure in the five groups were as follows, Tb x Ar: (19.52 +/- 2.23)%, (26.28 +/- 2.18) %, (28.37 +/- 1.21) %, (15.62 +/- 1.68) % and (14.21 +/- 0.89) %; Tb x Th: (35.45 +/- 1.63) microm, (50.13 +/- 3.58) microm, (60.23 +/- 8.25) microm, (75.62 +/- 9.72) microm and (78.78 +/- 11.21) microm; Tb x N: (5.98 +/- 1.21) n/mm, (8.07 +/- 0.86) n/mm, (8.30 +/- 1.22) n/mm, (2.63 +/- 1.35) n/mm and (2.48 +/- 1.62) n/mm; Tb x SP: (126.34 +/- 18.15) microm, (136.26 +/- 15.27) microm, (261.08 +/- 76.43) microm, (323.12 +/- 78.12) microm and (330.23 +/- 50.20) microm.
CONCLUSIONChanges in the levels of sex hormones are closely correlated with those of bone mass. Both testosterone and estradiol are essential for bone development and bone mass maintenance.
