BACKGROUND:Studies have shown that nerve grafts with Schwann cels can repair peripheral nerve defect and Schwann cels have an important role in nerve regeneration. OBJECTIVE: To observe the rehabilitation status of neutral function after sciatic nerve injury in rats bridged by nerve grafts with Schwann cels. METHODS: A rat model of sciatic nerve injury was established, and schwann cels were primarily cultured. Then, the rat model was repaired with polylactic-co-glycolic acid copolymer-extracelular matrix gel-Schwann cels complex. According to different concentrations of Schwann cels, there were five cel groups from 105/L to 109 RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The nerve conduction velocities in the cel groups were al higher than that in the control group at 3, 6, 12 weeks after modeling (P < 0.01), and it was highest in the 10 and a control group. The nerve conduction velocity was detected respectively at 3, 6, 12 weeks after modeling; the e tibialis anterior muscle gravity was detected and histological observation was done at 12 weeks. 8/L (P < 0.05). At 12 weeks, hematoxylin-eosin staining of the tibialis anterior muscle showed that the number of normal muscle fibers was higher in the cel groups than the control group (P < 0.05). In the 108/L and 109 and had similar length, thickness and density. These findings indicate that polylactic-co-glycolic acid complex with 10/L groups, the morphology of tibialis anterior muscle recovered wel; the muscle fibers were in strip-like and wavy shapes, grew in the same direction, 8/L Schwann cels is better to promote sciatic nerve regeneration.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence and risk factors of dyslipidemia among residents in Haining City, Zhejiang Province, so as to provide into the management of dyslipidemia. Methods: Totally 1 953 residents at ages of 15 to 69 years were recruited using a multi-stage stratified cluster sampling method in 5 townships (streets) of Hainan City. Subjects' demographic features, smoking status, alcohol consumption, family history of diseases and development of chronic diseases were collected. The height, body weight, waist circumstance and blood pressure were measured, and the fasting blood glucose, serum uric acid and blood lipid levels were determined. The prevalence of dyslipidemia was analyzed and standardized by the 7th population census data. The factors affecting dyslipidemia were identified using a multivariable logistic regression model. Results: Totally 1 893 valid questionnaires were recovered. The respondents included 949 males (50.13%) and 944 females (49.87%), and had a mean age of (47.90±14.34) years. A total of 513 participants were detected with dyslipidemia, and the prevalence and standardized prevalence of dyslipidemia were 27.10% and 27.01%, respectively. The prevalence of hypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesterolemia, hyperlipoproteinemia and hypolipoproteinemia was 16.53%, 3.22%, 1.74% and 15.27%, respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that male (OR=1.571, 95%CI: 1.268-1.947), family history of stroke (OR=1.645, 95%CI: 1.192-2.270), hyperuricemia (OR=1.809, 95%CI: 1.370-2.388), central obesity (OR=1.423, 95%CI: 1.066-1.900), obesity (OR=1.736, 95%CI: 1.335-2.257), underweight (OR=0.171, 95%CI: 0.049-0.593) significantly correlated with dyslipidemia. Conclusions The prevalence of dyslipidemia is lower than the national level among residents at ages of 15 to 69 years in Haining City, and hypertriglyceridemia and hypolipoproteinemia are predominant types of dyslipidemia. Male, obesity, family history of stroke and hyperuricemia are risk factors of dyslipidemia.

Objective To investigate the effect of angiotensinⅡ(AngⅡ) type 1 receptor blocker losartan on the cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) expression in metabolic syndrome (MS)kidney. Methods Seven-week-old male obese Zucker rats,a model of MS,were randomly divided into losartan treated and untreated group,and lean Zucker rats were used as controls.The obese Zucker rata of treated group received losartan for 4 months continuously.COX-2 expression was examined for all rats after 4 months.AngⅡ-stimulated mesangial cells and cortical tissue from AngⅡ-infused C57BL/6 mouse kidney by osmotic minipumps were used in this study.RNA and protein were obtained from renal cortical tissue or mesangial cells for RT-PCR and Western blot.Results Compared to the lean controls,obese Zucker rats showed a significant increase of COX-2 expression in the renal cortical tissue and these abnormalities were prevented by administration of losartan. Furthermore,the direct stimulation of AngⅡincreased COX-2 expression in mesangial cells in vitro and renal cortical tissue in vivo.Conclusions MS-induced COX-2 expression in the kidney is regulated by AngⅡ.Losartan as a non COX-2 inhibitor can protect MS kidney,at least in part,by inhibition of COX-2 activation.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the combined treatment with areola approach for capsular contracture after breast augmentation with implants.

METHODSFrom Feb. 2005 to Jun. 2011, 94 cases (168 sides) with Baker III and IV capsular contracture after breast augmentation with implants were treated with areola approach. The implants cavity was recreated, with or without removal of capsule. The implants were reimplanted behind pectoralis major or breast at the second stage in some patients.

RESULTS46 cases were followed up by clinic visit and the others were followed up by telephone for 6-37 months, with an average of 9.9 months. The capsular contracture was relapsed in 2 cases as Baker III and 1 case as Baker IV. All the other breasts got a good appearance with good soft texture and feeling. No hematoma, infection, implants rupture, breast ptosis or implant displacement happened.

CONCLUSIONSCombined treatment with areola approach has a good therapeutic effect for capsular contracture after breast augmentation with implants. The breast appearance is satisfactory with low occurrence of capsular contracture.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the telomerase activity of human adipose derived stem cells (ADSCs) during proliferation and differentiation in vitro.

METHODSADSCs were highly purified and cultured in vitro. The morphology, phenotype and biological properties of the cultured ADSCs were observed by flow cytometer. Then ADSCs were induced to differentiate into adipocytes and osteoblast. The telomerase activity was detected by TRAP.

RESULTSADSCs had the ability of multi-directed differentiation, like adipocytes and osteoblast. It could also express the stem cell-related surface markers. The telomerase activity was negative or lowly expressed in ADSCs in vitro within 12 generations. The telomerase activity was up-regulated when ADSCs was adipogenic differentiated, but deceased 3-6 days later.

CONCLUSIONSThe telomerase activity of ADSCs is not changed during culture in vitro. It is up-regulated when ADSCs are induced to adipogenic differentiation, but decreased later.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the value of rectangle titanium cage (SynCage-C) in the anterior cervical spine fusion.

METHODSNineteen patients underwent anterior cervical discectomy and interbody fusion using SynCage-C with average follow-up of 9 months.

RESULTSAll cases had cervical spondylosis with 13 cases of myelopathy and 6 cases of radiculopathy. One level fusion were 16 cases and two levels were 3 cases. The mean operation time was 40 minutes per level with average bleeding 60 ml. Patients were asked to wear a hard collar for average 8.5 weeks after the operation. The fusion was solid on lateral view X-ray films three months post-operation. Only 1 case had neck stiffness due to prolonged collar protection and another case had short term pain on bone dorner site. There were no other complications such as cage subsidence, displacement, milaligment and kyphosis of cervical spine.

CONCLUSIONThe SynCage-C can resort and maintain the intervertebral space effectively with the advantage of immediate stability, satisfactory fusion and easy to use.

Objective To explore the clinicopathological characteristics of hereditary ovarian cancer syndrome(HOCS). Methods From Jan. 2000 to Jan. 2007, among 580 cases of primary ovarian cancer, 42 cases(herediatary group),who had a positive family history of ovarian cancer and met the diagnostic criteria of HOCS, were analyzed retrospectively. One hundred cases without a family history of ovarian cancer were enrolled randomizely as control group (sporadic group). Results The incidence of HOCS was 7.2% (42/580). Forty-two cases associated tumors affected at least 2 successive generations in 31 families and affected 1 generation in 8 families. Eighty-seven percent (27/31)was from maternal lineage, while 13% (4/31)from paternal lineage. Earlier age of onset was significantly difference between two groups[(49±10) years vs. (55±10) years, P<0.05]. There were 90% belong to serous adenocarcinoma in the herediatary group, while 84% in the sporadic group. There was statistical difference in the proportion of mucinous adenocarcinoma (0 vs. 11%, P<0.05). The most common clinical manifestations were abdominal distention and anorexia (64% vs. 70%, P>0.05), International Federational of Gynecology Obstetrics(FIGO)stage Ⅲ (62% vs. 63%, P>0.05) between two groups. Fourteen cases (33%,14/42) were previously untreated in the herediatary group, while 40 cases (40%, 40/100) in the sporadic group. There were 15 cases (36%, 15/42) underwent secondary surgery and 15 cases (36%, 15/42) underwent third surgery or more in berediatary group, while 50 cases (50%, 50/100) and 27 cases(27%, 27/100) in the sporadic group. The mean number of ehemotberapy cycles received in two groups was 13.3 and 11.8 (P>0.05). The 3-year and 5-year survival rate in herediatary group were 73.6% and 54.9% respectively, compared with 47.4% and 21.2% (P<0.05) in sporadic group. Conclusion Hereditary ovarian cancer mostly from maternal lineage are featuring in early age of onset, serous adenocarcinoma, advanced stage (stage Ⅲ), and better prognosis after the comprehensive treated by cytoreductive surgery plus with chemotherapy.

Objective:To investigate the correlation between plasma homocysteine (Hcy) concentration and transient ischemic attack (TIA) and traditional vascular risk factors.Methods:The plasma Hcy concentrations of 112 patients with TIA and 62 controls were measured by fluorescenee polarization immunoassay.Hcy concentrations and related risk factors were analyzed.Results:The risk of TIA was increased significantly in plasma Hcy concentration 10.0 to 14.9 μmol/L group(OR=2.450,95% CI 1.091 to 5.502) and≥15.0 μmol/L group(OR=5.169,95% CI 2.096 to 12.746) compared with plasma Hcy concentration＜10.0 μmol/L group.Using TIA as the dependent wariable,various vascular risk factors (including plasma Hcy concentration) as the independent variable,logistic regression was analyzed.The result showed that the risk of TIA was increased significantly in plasma Hcy concentration＞10.0 μmol/L group compared with plasma Hcy concentration＜10.0 μmol/L group(OR=3.150,95% CI 1.380 to 7.192).Conclusions:Plasma Hcy concentration is an independent risk factor for TIA.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of Shourong compound formula on treating Parkinson's disease.

METHODParkinson's disease model mice induced by reserpine was used and by HPLC-ED the levels of Dopamine (DA) and its metabolites were determined.

RESULTMadopar could increase the levels of DA in brain of PD mice. The effect of madopar together with Sourong compound formula was better than that of madopar(P < 0.001).

CONCLUSIONShourong compound formula together with madopar has synergic effect on increase of DA level in brain and can reduce clinic dose of madopar so that side effect of madopar can be decreased.
