Preventive medicine is a highly practical vocation; the students majoring in this major should be trained with abilities of active learning and flexible applying.Nowadays, the main teaching methods in many colleges and universities were assigning homework, communicating on the internet and posing questions in the class, which were only taught by the teacher. The promotion model may promote the knowledge application for the students, with the heuristic teaching in the class based on the virtual or scenic status, practice in scientific research, social service and experiments in the real sites.Through promotion model, students can combine the theoretical knowledge with the reality, learn creatively and apply the knowledge flexibly.

Objective To investigate the present situation of water benzo (a) pyrene contamination in China and to make an ecological risk assessment. Methods B(a)P, one of the 16 prior-controlled polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons pollutants selected by US EPA, is used to reflect the potential risk of PAHs, a strong carcinogen. Since the content of B(a)P in water is rather low, the contamination levels in the sediment of domestic water environment are assessed with two ecological assessment standards: risk assessment guidelines of chemical concentrations in marine and estuary sediments and sediment quality guidelines for the protection of aquatic life and probable effects levels for adverse biological effects. Results The contents of B(a)P were 0.06-707.12 ng/g in sediment of rivers and lakes, 7.1-1 492.12 ng/g in surface sediment of seaports, marines, and tidal flats respectively. Conclusion Domestic water environment is generally suffered from B(a)P contamination, but still under the adverse effect level.

Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT) is a S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) dependent cytoplasm enzyme, which plays a vital role in the biotransformation and detoxification of many drugs and xenobiotic compounds.Recent studies have revealed abnormal expression of NNMT in many tumors, which may contribute to tumorigenesis and tumor development and radiotherapy or chemotherapy resistance.

The diversity in Tibetan kefir grains and dynamics of the microbial community during the fermentation of Tibetan kefir by PCR-DGGE fingerprinting technique were studied. The results showed that bacterial community of Tibetan kefir grains was more complex than that of yeast. The bacteria communities between different Tibetan kefir grains showed 78%~84% similarity, and yeast 80%~92%.Bands B, E and N of DGGE profiles of the microbial community during fermentation of Tibetan kefir were present throughout the fermentation.Analysis of sequence date showed the majority of the DGGE bands of bacteria community corresponded to LAB, and the most intense band (band E) was completely homology to Lactococcus lactis.

Objective:To study the relationship between telomerase activity and the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Methods:Telomerase activity and expression of PCNA in 68 cases of OSCC,34 cases of epithelium immediately adjacent to carcinomas and 12 cases of normal oral mucosa were detected by TRAP-PCR-ELISA and immunohistochemical SP method. Results:The positive rate of telomerase in OSCC, the epithelium immediately adjacent to carcinomas and the normal oral mucosa was 67.65%(46/68), 8.82%(3/34) and 0(0/12) respectively. Telomerase activity in OSCC was related to the grade of the clinicopathology(P

Objective To analyze the risk factors of acute kidney injury (AKI) in the patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgical procedures. Methods We retrospectively analyzed all gastrointestinal surgical patients nearly 2 years who were in the first affiliated hospital of Kunming Medical University and the first people's hospital of Yunnan province. Results The incidence of AKI was 2.1%.Univariate analysis and multivariate analysis indicated that: age>65 years, emergency operation and serious infection were significantly related with the incidence of AKI.Conclusion AKI is a common complication after gastrointestinal surgical procedures. This study showed that age>65 years, emergency operation, serious infection were risk factors most likely associated with postoperative AKI development.

BACKGROUNDCardiomyocyte transplantation for the therapy of myocardial ischaemia is being paid close attention. However, how the microenvironment controls the differentiation of transplanted bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) is unknown. Endothelin-1 (ET-1), a cytokine, increases during myocardial infarction, but it is not known whether ET-1 is responsible for the fate of transplanted BMSCs. In the present study, we investigated the effects of ET-1 on differentiation and maturation of induced rabbit BMSCs, in vitro, to elucidate the cellular biological mechanisms.
METHODSThe proliferation of BMSCs isolated from femur of rabbits was induced by ET-1 only, by 5-azacytidine (5-aza) or ET-1 combined with 5-aza. After 4 weeks of induced culturing, the differentiation rate and the diameter of induced myocyte like cells were estimated and the expressions of GATA-4 protein and phosphorylation level were assayed by Western-blot, RT-PCR analysis of beta-myosin heavy chain (MHC). mRNA expression, levels of troponin-I by immunohistochemical staining and ultrastructure of induce-cultured BMSCs were also determined.
RESULTSBy induction with ET-1 and 5-aza, mean cell diameter of induced BMSCs was larger than induced with 5-aza [(6.26 +/- 0.22) microm cf (5.29 +/- 0.19) microm] (P < 0.001). There was no difference in rate of differentiation of myocyte like cells between the groups induced with 5-aza and ET-1 combined with 5-aza [(29.82 +/- 0.23)% cf (29.94 +/- 0.18)%] (P > 0.05). The expressions of GATA-4 protein and phosphorylation were enhanced significantly in groups induced with ET-1 combined with 5-aza (P < 0.05). In the group induced with ET-1 combined with 5-aza, expression of beta-MHC mRNA was higher than control [(0.122 +/- 0.008) cf (0.022 +/- 0.003)] (P < 0.01), and more troponin-I positive cells were also detected in this group. Differentiated BMSCs showed formations of myofilaments and primitive sarcomere, i.e., morphological characteristics of myocyte like cells.
CONCLUSIONSThis study suggests that induced culturing of BMSCs by ET-1 combined with 5-aza can express cardiomyocytic characteristics whereas ET-1 alone could not induce BMSCs to differentiate to myocyte like cells. ET-1 upregulates the expression of GATA-4 protein and phosphorylation level of induced BMSCs, and rapidly promotes the differentiation and maturation of myocyte like cells from BMSCs.
