To explore the clinical diagnosis methods of SARS virus infection, and analyze the value of ELISA by which the SARS-Ab was detected. The results show ed that the control group was negative, the positive detection rate was respective ly 2.7% and 92% before and after 12 days when the patients got the SARS in the t est group, and the total positive rate was 94.4%. But the detection rate was 3 1% among 29 suspected patients. In a word, the ELISA method was high specified. Th e detection rate was lower before 12 days and higher after 13 to 16 days when th e patients got the SARS.

Objective To study the extraction and purification of glycosaminoglycans from Rhoqilema esculenta Kishinouye,optimize the enzymolysis process,and its antihyperlipidemia effects were studied.Methods Extraction of glycosaminoglycans(GAG) from Rhopilema esculenta Kishinouye by hydrolyzation method with papain,subtilisin and trypsin neutral proteinase,ethanol precipitation.The rude product of glycosaminoglycans(GAG) was purified and fractionated by the methods of adsorption,dialysis,ethanol precipitation and CTAB precipitation.The experimental hyperlipidemia mice induced by high fat forage were studied.The total cholesterol(TC) and triglyceride(TG) levels were determined.Results Optimum enzymolysis process: papain neutral proteinase1.5%,subtilisin neutral proteinase1.5%,treated for 5h;The result showed that the levels of TC and TG decreased to 6.83?1.09 mmol?L-1(P

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of reduction and fixation with multi-Kirschner wires for treatment of Lisfranc fracture-dislocations.

METHODSThere were 49 patients (37 male and 12 female aged from 20 to 28 years old) involved in the study. According to the Myserson damage typing, type A in 12 cases, B1 in 3, B2 in 28, C1 in 4 and C2 in 2. Kirschner wires were applied to fix and reconstruct the three-column in three directions according to the structural characteristic of midfoot. Reconstruction of three-column needed not only to reduce and to fix every single column, but also to establish union of the columns.

RESULTSAccording to the evaluation of AOFAS for midfoot, 14 cases were excellent (90 to100), 22 cases good (80 to 89), 8 cases fair (70 to 79) and 5 cases poor (60 to 69), with an average score of 84.200+/-9.663.

CONCLUSIONThe diagnosis and treatment of Lisfranc fracture-dislocations should comply with the theory of three-column reconstruction of foot arch, which can achieve the static balance of biomechanics and provide a stable environment for healing of fracture and soft tissue. Reduction and fixation with multi-Kirschner wires is an effective treatment method for Lisfranc fracture-dislocations.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the role of dopamine-1 receptor in the modulation of basic respiration rhythm.

METHODSNewborn SD rat (0-3 days, n=20) brain stem slices containing the medial region of the nucleus retrofacialis (mNRF) were prepared with the hypoglossal nerve roots retained. The respiratory rhythmical discharge activity (RRDA) of the hypoglossal nerve was recorded using suction electrodes on these preparations, and the effects of dopamine-1 receptor on RRDA were investigated by application of the specific agonist of dopamine-1 receptor A68930 at different concentrations (0, 1, 2, and 5 micromol/L) in the perfusion solution.

RESULTSThe respiratory cycles (RC) and the expiratory time (TE) decreased progressively with gradual increment of the integrated amplitude (IA) after A68930 administration, and their changes were the most conspicuous at 5 min after the administration. A68930 at the concentrations of 2 and 5 micromol/L resulted in the most obvious changes in RC, TE, and IA (P<0.05), but IA exhibited no significant variation at 1 min after perfusion with 2 micromol/L A68930 (P>0.05). RC and TE were gradually shortened after treatment with increasing concentrations of A68930, which also caused gradual increment of IA, and at the concentration of 5 micromol/L, RC, TE, and IA all showed the most obvious changes (P<0.01).

CONCLUSIONSDopamine-1 receptor plays a role in the modulation of RRDA in isolated neonatal rat brainstem slice. A68930 may increase the frequency of respiration by shortening TE and enhance the respiratory activity by increasing the amplitude of inspiratory discharge of the respiratory neurons.

With references of historical materials and modern literature regarding acupoint characteristic, a secondary analysis on the concept, origin, related factors and research methods in present research of acupoint characteristic is performed. The acupoint characteristic should be considered as an acupoint inherent attribute that could explain physiological and pathological manifestations at the same time, including location attribute and function attribute, which is related with time and treatment method. Some re-thinking on acupoint characteristic is proposed as well as advice on further research method and direction, hoping to promote the research development of acupoint characteristic.

OBJECTIVETo explore the association of 8-hydroxyguanine glycosidase OGG1 Ser326Cys polymorphism with semen quality and the risk of male infertility.

METHODSThis case-control study included 620 idiopathic infertile patients and 385 normal fertile controls. We determined their genotypes by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and analyzed their semen quality by computer-aided semen analysis (CASA).

RESULTSThe individuals with OGG1 326 Cys/Cys showed significantly lower sperm motility and concentration ([52.1 +/- 26.7]% and (3.75 +/- 0.91) x 10(6)/ml, ln transformed value) than the Ser/Ser carriers ([59.0 +/- 21.8] % and (4.12 +/- 0.88) x 10(6)/ml, ln transformed value) (P < 0.05). The risk of male infertility increased 69% in the OGG1 326Cys allele carriers as compared with the Ser carriers (OR = 1.69, 95% CI: 1.24 -2.31).

CONCLUSIONOGG1 326 Ser/Cys polymorphism might contribute to the risk of male infertility in the southern Chinese population.

Objective To develop user-friendly information education-communication (IEC)materials and guidelines of malaria control for various target groups. Methods The participatory methods were used to make sure participation of target groups at each stages of IEC material development. Results A package consisted of interactive video, 2 posters for primary groups, sto ry booklet for students, manual for activities of "buddy system" for teachers, flipcharts for health staff at grass-root levels, guidelines on communication skill and how to use the first 5kinds of materials, was developed. Conclusion A set of user-friendly IEC materials and guidelines of malaria control has successfully been developed with sufficient participation of target groups.

AIM To study the effects of coadministration of berberine chloride(Ber) with cyclosporin (CsA) on liver microsomal cytochrome P450 isoenzyme and multi drug resistance gene in rats. METHODS The activities of liver microsomal erythromycin demethylase(ERD) and aminopyrence N demethylase(ADM) were determined. The levels of mRNA expression of CYP3A1, CYP1A1, CYP2E1, mdr1a and mdr1b were assayed with RT PCR. RESULTS After administration for 6 days, all treatment groups except Ber at 100 mg?kg -1 exhibited inhibitory action on ERD activity in rats. ERD activity markedly decreased in all drug treatment groups after taking drug for 12 days. After administration for 6 days, 45 mg?kg -1 CsA, 100 mg?kg -1 Ber coadministrated with 45 mg?kg -1 CsA and 200 mg?kg -1 Ber plus 45 mg?kg -1 CsA had significant inhibitory effects on ADM activity in rats. All groups except 100 mg?kg -1 Ber and 150 mg?kg -1 ketoconazole had the same effects on ADM activity after treatment for 12 days. Again, after 12 days, all drug treatment groups except 100 mg?kg -1 Ber group was found of remarkable inhibition of the mRNA expression of CYP3A1, CYP2E1, mdr1a and mdr1b. The CYP1A1 gene was not detected in all groups. CONCLUSION The mechanism of Ber to increase CsA concentration is that Ber decreases the expression of CYP3A, mdr1a and mdr1b thereby reduces the metabolism and elimination of CsA by liver.

Objective To study the effects of hormone,anesthetie and contrast medium on the activities of collagenase lysis.Methods Nuclear tissues were divided into equal amount for different groups and same units of collagenase were used for the lysis.The only difference in the control group from experimental groups was that there were no dexamethasone,lidocaine or omnipaque but existing in experimental groups.Twenty four hours later,the concentrations of the hydroxyproline were determined in different groups and the data were analyzed by statistical software with computer.Results 1.The concentrations of hydroxyproline in the dexamcthasone group,lidocaine group and omnipaque group were significantly lower than that of control group,especially that of lidocaine group,P value was＜0.05 or 0.01.2. The concentrations of hydroxyproline in the dexamethasone+lidocaine group,dexamethasone+omnipaque group,lidocaine+omnipaque group and dexamethasone+lidocaine+omnipaque group were significantly lower than that of control group;and simultaneously lower in dexamethasone group,lidocaine group,omnipaque group respectively;P value was also＜0.05 or 0.01.Conclusion Dexamethasone,lidocaine and omnipaque can individually inhibit the activity of collagenase at different degrees,so they shouldn't be used together with collagenase in treating the lumber disc herniation.
