OBJECTIVETo observe the regulatory effects of electroacupuncture with different acupoints combinations on blood lipid and atherosclerosis index (AI) in rats with hyperlipemia, so as to make a preliminary screening for the optimal acupoints combination for hyperlipemia.
METHODSOne hundred and five clean-grade SD male rats were randomly divided into 9 groups, including a normal group, a model group, a Quchi group, a Zhongwan group, a Fenglong group, a Quchi+Zhongwan group, a Quchi+Fenglong group, a Zhongwan+Fenglong group and a Quchi+Zhongwan+Fenglong group (three acupoints group), 17 rats in the normal group and 11 rats in the rest groups. The normal group was fed with normal diet, while the rest groups were fed with high-fat diet for 3 weeks to prepare the hyperlipemia model. All the rats were given unlimited water. After the establishment of model, the normal group was fed freely without any treatment; the model group was bundled and immobilized everyday; the rest groups were bundled, immobilized and treated with electroacupuncture at corresponding acupoints with disperse-dense wave, 20 min per time, once a day. After 4 weeks, the blood examples were collected from abdominal aorta to measure the total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), and analyzed the AI in each group.
RESULTSAfter the treatment, TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C and AI in each acupuncture group were all lower than those in the model group (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with single acupoint group and the Quchi+Zhongwan group, the content of TC in the three acupoints group was lower (P<0.01). The differences of content of TG among each acupuncture group were not significant (all P>0.05). Compared with the rest 6 acupuncture groups, the content of HDL-C and AI in the three acupoints group were significantly different (all P<0.05). The content of LDL-C in the three acupoints group was decreased as compared with the Quchi group and the Zhong-wan group.
CONCLUSIONThe electroacupuncture at "Quchi" (LI 11), "Zhongwan" (CV 12) and "Fenglong" (ST 40) has more advantages on regulating the content of HDL-C and LDL-C as well as improving AI in hyperlipemia rats, and it has superior effects on blood lipid metabolism.

Objective To investigate the value of double-balloon endoscopy (DBE) and multi-slice CT enteroclysis (MSCTE) in diagnosis of Crohn's disease (CD) in small intestine. Methods DBE and MSCTE were performed in 71 patients with suspected Crohn's disease in small intestine. The two methods were compared in terms of diagnosis, extents of disease, existance of complications and activity of the disease according to the pathologic findings and the outcome of follow-up. Results The diagnostic yields of DBE and MSCTE were comparable with no significant difference (χ2=2.29, P> 0.05). The positive and negative likelihood ratios were 22.5 and 0. 022 in DBE respectively, and were 1.6 and 0. 240 in MSCTE respectively. The results of DBE was consistent with MSCTE in diagnosis of mild bowel stenosis, but was inconsistent with MSCTE in diagnosis of moderate-severe bowel stenosis (χ2=11.298, P=0.001). The concordance of two methods in diagnosis of disease activity was 95.8%. Conclusions The first choice in diagnosis of small bowel CD is DBE. The combination of two methods will be helpful in diagnosis and evaluation of CD severity.

Objective To investigate the relationship between glucose excursion and cognitive function in aged type 2 diabetes. Methods A total of 248 aged type 2 diabetes were recruited in this study, all of them wore continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) for 3 d to evaluate the glucose excursion including mean amplitude of glycemic excursions (MAGE) which was used for assessing intra-day glycemia variability, and mean daily difference (MODD) which represented day-to-day glycemic variability.During the period of CGMS monitoring, all subjects accepted mini mental status examination (MMSE) for evaluating cognitive function. The relationships of MAGE and MODD with performance on cognitive tests were assessed. Results The over intra-day glucose excursion group had lower MMSE score than the narrow intra-day glucose excursion group[(24.25±6.75)vs.(25.97±0.47),P=0.025].The MMSE score was decreased in over day-to-day glucose excursion group compared with the narrow day-to-day glucose excursion group [(24.21 ± 6.47) vs. (26.01 ± 5.49),P =0.019]. A statistically significant association was observed between MAGE and the score of MMSE(r=- 0.308,P<0.001),and between MODD and MMSE(r=-0.226,P =0.001).Conclusions Glucose excursion may affect cognitive function in aged type 2 diabetes. The over glucose excursion decreases the score of MMSE.

Objective To study the value of 18F-fluoro-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in diagnosis of patients suspected with gastric malignant tumors. Methods Ten women and fourteen men, with a mean age of (56±15) years (ranged from 28 to 83 years) suspected of gastric malignant tumors were enrolled from May 2007 to July 2007. According to the results of the first time endoscopy and biopsy, patients were divided into gastric cancer group (n=9) and suspected group(n= 15). 18F-FDG PET/CT whole body scan was performed in gastric cancer group for assistant operation and suspected group for further diagnosis. The results of PET/CT for suspected group were all confirmed by the endoscopy later. The final diagnosis was based on pathology and follow-up. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of 18F-FDG PET/CT in diagnosis of gastric malignant tumors were analyzed, as well as the tumor staging before operation. Results The malignant tumor was found in 16 out of 24 patients who received 18F-FDG PET/CT scan, including 9 in gastric cancer group and 7 in suspected group. Sixteen tumors originated from stomach, and 1 infiltrated the liver, pancreas and omentum. Liver (1 case) and lung (1 case) metastases were found. Three lesions limited in intestine and 13 had positive lymph nodes. Two patiens in suspected group were not diagnosed by PET/CT, one was negative and the other, who suspected as gastric cancer by PET/CT, was pathologicaly confirmed as benign gastrointestinal stromal tumor. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of 18F-FDG PET/CT in diagnosis of gastric malignant tumors were 16/17, 6/7, 16/17 and 6/7, respectively. Six patients of stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ were all detected. Conclusions 18F-FDG PET/CT whole body scan is not only a feasible, safe, noninvasive and promising diagnostic tool in detecting and differentiating gastric cancer from benign tumor, but also can assist the management of disease.

Objective To evaluate the clinical value of double-balloon enteroscopy( DBE)in as-sessing the effect of mucosal healing in patients with moderate small bowel Crohn's disease( CD)treated with low-dose azathioprine. Methods CD patients who were naive to any immunomodulators or biological a-gents with lesions mainly located in ileu were screened by multislice CT enterography and anal-route DBE at baseline. Lesions at 150 cm proximal to ileocecal valve were assessed by DBE with Simple Endoscopic Score for CD( SES-CD)after 12 and 24 months of low-dose azathioprine treatment, respectively. Results A total of 36 patients were enrolled and the average tolerated dose of azathioprine was(61. 8 ± 17. 2)mg/day. The total rates of complete,near-complete,partial and no mucosal healing in 36 patients were 19. 4%(7/36), 5. 6%(2/36),27. 8%(10/36),and 47. 2%(17/36)at month 12 and 30. 6%(11/36),25. 0%(9/36), 33. 3%(12/36),and 11. 1%(4/36)at month 24,respectively. The baseline SES-CD score(OR=2. 71, 95%CI:1. 11-6. 63,P=0. 029)and duration of disease(OR=1. 27,95%CI:1. 10-1. 47,P =0. 001) were two relevant factors associated with mucosal healing of small bowel CD. Conclusion DBE has a signif-icant advantage in assessing post-therapy mucosal healing for patients with small bowel CD. The optimal time point for the first follow-up by DBE is at least 12 months after low-dose azathioprine treatment.
