BACKGROUND:Through compounding hydroxyapatite and poly-DL-lactide, the mechanical properties, physical and chemical properties of the implants can be enhanced.
OBJECTIVE:To detect the effect of hydroxyapatite/poly-DL-lactide composite internal fixation screws in canine femoral condyle cancel ous bone fracture repair.
METHODS:Forty-two beagle dogs were operated to bilateral femoral condyle fracture models. The left side was fixed using hydroxyapatite/poly-DL-lactide screws as experimental group;while the right side was fixed with pure poly-DL-lactide screws as control group. After 2, 4, 8, 12, 24, 36 and 48 weeks, conditions of fracture were observed using X-ray, femoral and screw specimens were observed histopathological y, and the bending strength and the average molecular weight were detected. The biological absorption rate, intensity decay rate and biodegradation rate were calculated.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:After 2-48 weeks, bilateral fractures were fixed wel and new bone grew wel , but the biological absorption rate of the screws in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group (P ≤0.01). In the first 2, 4 weeks, the bending strength of the experimental screws was higher than that of the control screw (P ≤0.05), but the biodegradable speed was slower in the former one (P ≤ 0.05 or P ≤ 0.01). The pathological changes were similar in the two groups. After 48 weeks, the fractures were healed and bone tissue reconstruction was completed. Compared with the pure poly-DL-lactide screws, the hydroxyapatite/poly-DL-lactide composite internal fixation screws have better fixation effects, biocompatibility, mechanical properties and biodegradability.

This paper describes a calibration phantom system for QCT bone mineral density determination, which consists of 4-standard-solid-sample calibration phantom, a quality assurance (QA) phantom and the bone mineral density analysis software. The system adds to the new applications of CT systems, and provides a new method with a good accuracy and reliability for the examination, diagnosis, prevention, treatment of osteoporosis diseases and the observation of curative effect of drugs.

Objective To analyze the long-term prognosis and prognostic factors of idiopathic collapsing focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and not otherwise specified FSGS in children. Methods The clinical, pathology and follow-up data of patients with idiopathic collapsing FSGS and not otherwise specified FSGS were analyzed retrospectively by Kaplan-Meier method, univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis. Results A total of 64 patients (29 idiopathic collapsing FSGS and 35 not otherwise specified FSGS) were diagnosed by renal biopsy. The 4-year renal survival rate of idiopathic collapsing FSGS and not otherwise specified FSGS were 48.3%, 74.3% respectively. Univariate analysis revealed that the renal survival time were 25.41±3.28 months in idiopathic collapsing patients, and 35.53±2.73 months in not otherwise specified patients. The different is significant (χ2=4.07,P=0.044). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that poor treatment response (HR=5.92, P<0.05) and renal insufficiency at early stage (HR=2.45, P<0.05) were independent risk factors of prognosis. Conclusions Compared with patients with not otherwise specified FSGS, the renal survival time is shorter in idiopathic collapsing FSGS patients. Patients with renal insufficiency and poor response to treatment have poorer prognosis.

Objective To transplant the umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells(UCMSCs) derived from human umbilical cord into cisterna magna of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy(HIE) rat model, and to observe their survival, proliferation and differentiation in the rat brain. Methods UCMSCs were isolated from human umbilical cord of babies delivered after full-term normal cesarean section, and labeled by bromodeoxyuridine(BrdU).Pregnant rats were randomly divided into experimental group(n=6) and control group(n=1).HIE models were built by ligating both sides of the uterine arteries of full-pregnant rats(21 days) in experimental group rats for 15 minutes. The neonatal rats in experimental group were divided into stem cells group(n=24) and PBS group(n=19) at random. The labeled UCMSCs were injected into cisterna magna of the rats in stem cells group, while PBS was injected into the rats of PBS group. In 1,2,3 and 4 weeks after transplantation, the brain tissue section slides were immunohistochemically stained with antibodies against BrdU,Nestin, neuron specific enolase(NSE) and glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP),and thionin.Control group with normal delivery was tested as concurrent control. Results At 1 week after transplantation,BrdU,Nestin,NSE and GFAP positive cells were found in the hippocampal dentate gyrus of the rats in stem cells group rats. The number of BrdU-positive and Nestin-positive cells increased(Pa0.05).The NSE-positive and GFAP-positive cells gradually increased from 1-4 weeks post transplantation and comparisons between groups had statistical significance(Pa

Objective To analyze the antimicrobial susceptibility of Mycoplasma isolates for rational antimicrobial therapy. Methods BioM?rieux IST kit was used for identification and susceptibility testing of Mycoplasma strains. Results Mycoplasma was positive in 49.5% of the specimens tested.Of the Mycoplasma detected,Ureaplasma urealyticum(Uu)alone accounted for 74.7%,Mycoplasma huminis(Mh)alone accounted for 18.1%,and Uu+Mh was identified in 7.2% of the patients. The results of antimicrobial susceptibility testing showed that the Mycoplasma isolates were most susceptible to doxycycline (98.1%).Ciprofloxacin was the least active (17.3%).Conclusions Doxyeycline, josamycin, and clarithromycin can be used in the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by Mycoplasma.
