Methods:73 patients with MHD and 20 heahhy volunteers were involved in this study. Plasma concentrations of IL-6, TNF-?, resistin were measured by enzyme linked immunoassay(ELISA). The serum levels of high sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP), triglyceride, cholesterol, albumin, glucose and insulin were also detected. The homeostasis model assessment index(HOMA-R) was calculated as an estimate of insulin resistance from the fasting glucose and insulin. Results:The plasma lever of resistin in MHD was significantly increased compared with healthy controls(40.15?22.46 vs 11.78?6.29 ug/L, P
3.The validity of experimental animal models of depression
Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 1999;0(09):-
Study of depression and antidepressant drugs mainly depends on animal models. Twelve animal models of depression related to some sets of validating criteria are reviewed. Of the 12 models, some traditional models (reserpine reversal, amphetamine potentiation) are rejected as they are devoid of selectivity, insufficient to predict antidepressant activity in the compounds tested. The models with the highest overall validity are the intracranial self-stimulation, chronic stress and learned helplessness models in rats, and the primate separation model. A combination of several models may be the best way to study depression and to screen antidepressant drugs. This combination can be used to detect compounds comparable to those antidepressants possessing clinically established antidepressant activity.

9. Effect of Coptidis Rhizoma processed with ginger juice on its property based on metabonomics
Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs 2013;44(22):3177-3181
Objective: To explore the difference of hot and cold property of Coptidis Rhizoma (CR) before and after being processed with ginger juice. Methods: To feed rats for 29 d with the decoction of un-processed CR (UPCR) and ginger juice-processed CR (GPCR), the rats' blood was collected at different administration time, the data by HPLC-MS/MS analysis were processed with PCA to determine the metabolites difference between the treatment groups. Results: On the day 29, the metabolic status of endogenous substances in rats' blood showed the biggest difference between the UPCR and GPCR groups. Through checking the endogenous biomarkers of the rats in each group, the content of markers related to amino acid energy metabolism of rats in the GPCR group was higher than that in the UPCR group, indicating the energy metabolism of the GPCR was stronger than that of the UPCR, which showed the differences in cold and hot property between the two drugs. Conclusion: The results show that the differences in potency of the UPCR and GPCR can be reflected by rats' different biological effects. The results are consistent with the traditional processing theory in Chinese materia medica that the cold property of CR could be moderated to be colder by processing with assistant materials with hot property (ginger juice). The work indicates that the metabonomic method is a valuable tool in the research of processing effect on properties of Chinese medicinal substances. The results are helpful to clarify the mechanism of processing CR with ginger juice in the future.

Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2010;31(12):1330-1332
Objective: To investigate the effects of dexmedetomidine on blood glucose, β-endorphin (β-EP), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels in patients undergoing radical esophagectomy, and to discuss the possible mechanism. Methods: Forty patients with esophageal carcinoma undergoing radical esophagectomy were randomly assigned to 2 groups: dexmedetomidine group and control group (n = 20 in each). Blood samples were taken immediately before induction of anesthesia (T0), immediately after tracheal extubation (T1), day 1 and day 2 after operation (T2, T3) for determining the levels of blood glucose, plasma β-EP and serum TNF-α and IL-6. Results: Compared with those at T0, MAP and HR at T1 were significantly elevated (P<0.05) in the control group, the blood glucose and plasma β-EP at T1-T3 were significantly increased (P<0.05), and the serum TNF-α and IL-6 at T1 and T2 were significantly elevated(P<0.05). The blood glucose, plasma β-EP, serum TNF-α and IL-6 in dexmedetomidine group had no significant changes at all time points (P>0.05), and the above parameters were significantly different between the two groups at corresponding time pionts (P< 0.05). Conclusion: Continued application of dexmedetomidine can effectively decrease the levels of blood glucose, plasma β-EP, serum TNF-α and IL-6 in patients undergoing radical esophagectomy, inhibiting the peri-operative stress response.
